  • Valentine's day is a 'money-maker' everywhere...

  • omg i wish i can be in your placceeeeee *_*

  • Lol, my birthday is march 14 XD

  • it is depressing :\

  • 1:00 - 1:21 Very funny haha never would have expected that... These jap guys need some balls..!!

  • turn it into a total moneymaker?

I live in the U.K and the only difference betwwen valentines day and any other day is that eating out will cost around £40 per person. Beginning to realise just how different the U.S is to other countries.

  • hey, I will also do a students exchange next year, but I'll go to China. I saw some of your Vlogs about Japan, and now I'd like to ask what I should do with my hair. (sounds like a stupid question first, but I really wondering)

Because now I have my hair coloured black but my natural colour is blond.

Now I wonder if I should go there with my black hair and let them grow out there just like you did, or would you say that I should better start to let my hair to get blond again already now?

    Thanks

  • is that music from an anime ???

  • @SunigildaAyumi Yeah, it is from Chobbits.

  • I heard on another Japan Vlog that females buy chocolates etc for the guys and on a day called "white day" the guys have to give the girls more chocolate/flowers then the girl gave them.

  • I live in Japan too! & im going to start vlogging soon about Japan & stuff :D

Anybody interested stick around for a video of mine :D

  • i love this song and ur vids!

  • Cool im not really in v- day any way. I like your video :)

  • Just wanted you to know that your clips are extremely helpful.

You should ignore all those rude comments because its YOUR experience, no one elses.

I'm glad you are sharing your experiences with us, thanks for your videos!

  • Hey I like Round Table too :D

  • its was the opposite. the girls musk up the courage and month later is white day and then the guys are obliged to return a gift.

  • @Cherrierune I hear the girls always give chocolate to the boys, but I'm not sure of it :)

  • @Aretha45001 I heard about it from my friend chisato. some do some don't it really isn't as romantic as it seems.

  • LET ME BE WITH YOU CHII~

  • omg the song in the begin "let me be with you"The opening of the anime Chobits.

    XD

  • Please film somethingmore from you'r school ^^

  • somebody can tell me the name of the song in the background?? i swear that i heard for a japanese anime because my best friend was addicted to this anime...

  • @tracegirl1616 It's from the anime Chobits and the song is called "Let me be with you"

  • @KratosDivine thanks ;)

  • lol, wait a month? Fuck yes, everyone loves suspense.

Hm, I guess in western culture we're more likely to celebrate Pi day on March 14 than White Day.

  • I've always been told that the girls give their special chocolates to the boy they like and then he returns it with a gift on White Day.

  • They have white day ... The UK has steak and blow job day ... Figures.

  • kat vs. kid >.<

  • The practice began in the candy company's strategy. In Korea, brought their habits for a company called Lotte Japanese sweets, chocolate is going to present.

  • You critises comersilisim yet ur from usa? HA

  • omg to day is march 14th happy white day

  • how did you get to go to japan? cuz i really want to go :|

  • Hahah i really love your videos and OMG i saw your video in holland i'm glad you'd fun here

  • CHOBITSSSS

  • there that weight less im like 150 to 170 and im 15 but its mostly muscle ;D

  • Valentine's day.... Also known as... single awareness day. :( :( :(

  • valentines day is actually when a girl confesses their feelings to a boy. they dont make chocolate for themselves they actually hand make it for a boy they like. which is much better than buying it. i have lived in japan for half of my life i have not heard of a girl making or buying chocolate for themselves on valentines. i think you should think twice before you say stuff like that... but i do agree with the dieting stuff. it`s a bit nutty :l

  • Lol. Valentine's Day is a moneymaker here in America too, isn't it? Remember all those cartoon valentine cards in elementary school, like one from each person in the class ? :) And all those pre-made boxed chocolate.

Honestly I don't think it's such a big deal here in the US either. :o

  • uh...i'm ike 5.2 - 5.4 ft and 130 pounds (in middle school)....and a highschooler is 95 pounds. In japan.......no wonder they can fit so many people in those trains.........

  • I've heard from my Japanese penpals, that girls make chocolate for their male crushes or boyfriends and friends on VD and then on White Day the boys or significant others do something in return for them. I suppose it's different depending on the area or people involved though....

  • LOL about the diet books :P Over here in America the average weight for a 20 year old female is 130lbs and that's at 5 ft 3 in. So in Japan they are 95lbs on average?! wow! D: that's considered unhealthy over here! hah

  • i love that song

it's from an anime isn't it

  • @LinkShouldBeAGirl Yes, Chobits. Opening song.

  • i don't see how this is any different than America. In America only people in a relationship celebrate it and its highly commercialized, just like Christmas.

  • 95?!!! for a high schooler?!

  • i really want to go to japan :] unfortunately because of money issues and my parents WILL -- argghhh :] haaahh high school

  • oh chobits!!!

  • VD has never been romantic its a commercialized scam, thats a good thing girls giving themselves gifts, on VD I don't give VD gift to any girl women don't break up with men just because their cheep.

  • @jason4275 Yes they do.

  • Valentines Day- Girls give choco

    White Day- Boys give choco

giri-obligatory choco given when you to someone you feel you have to give it to, example: coworkers, casual acquaintances, ect

honmei- given to someone you have romantic feeling for

  • but then again christmas is sorta like valentines cuz its all about lovers and romance and shit am i right or am i right

  • @ashleighsandwich they dont have halloween

  • What school do you go to?

  • what is halloween like in Japan?

  • @AshleighSandwich It's more of a visual thing than an actual holiday.

They still make stuff involving pumpkins and witches and other iconic American bullshit things, but I don't think there's an actual holiday.

    Could be wrong, though.

  • I thought girls made chocolates for the guys on Valentine's Day...and then the following month the guys return the favor to the women on White Day. I've never heard about the girls making chocolates for themselves. Thanks for all the vlogs, even though I found them a bit late!

  • @MephistophelesMyLord Everyone loves chocolate, it's like how girls in America or any other retarded white place (UK) will buy or make sweets for themselves.

  • I am so glad you made Vlogs about Japan because this is helping me enormously. You see, I want to live in Japan as soon as I graduate from high school but I haven't a clue about their cultures/customs and after watching a few of your videos, I was like, 'I didn't see that coming.' Haha. If you haven't already, could you possibly make one about breakfast/lunch/dinner in Japan? Thanks much!

  • it probably has to do with their culture of not as being out there compared to the western culture..even when it comes to success or stuff humility plays a big role. from what i've heard the norm in japan is not to be overconfident or brag or in other words not as outgoing..

btw love ur hair! n u remind me of an ANTM contestant..elyse sewell.

  • hell ya chobits

  • love the song playing in the background...yay...chobits..

  • Yeahh!!! White Day!!! ^_^ I'm sure you would have gotten chocolates though if you were back at home ;) . Cool videos!

  • lol don't worry about commercialized valentine in Japan, here in Canada it is also commercialized. After high-school years are over, in the business office environment i now live in, valentine is purely commercial.

  • i know it's also usesd to bully people "oh you din't get a valentine you have to friends"

  • hey don't say that they ruined valentines day!!

    lol ^-^

it's not their fault..it's not in their actual culture to actually celebrate v-day the same way we do in america haha..but total moneymaker?...haha funny..lol

anyway cool vids..hope to see more!!!

  • @gamegina "It's not their fault"...that sort of sounds like you're talking down about their culture, and them. Their idea of VD is much sweeter than America's, where people bitch about the commercialism of it because they're lonely and no woman has the decency to do what is commonplace in Japan. They took an American holiday and kicked it up a notch in a feminine, polite way.

  • your information is not accurate.

  • this is just what i have observed and been told. What would make it "accurate" in your opinion?

  • Ehhhh. You were sort of right but from the way that my girlfriend (Who is Japanese) explained Valentines Day (Very confusing for me haha) in Japan is that on Valentines Day girls/women give out chocolate. But two different types "Giri Choco" and "Honmei Choco". Giri Choco is literally "Obligation Chocolate", which is given out as a matter of social obligation to friends, co-workers, etc. It's relatively cheap and low quality chocolate.

  • @katrandom

Honmei Choco is given by girls to their boyfriends or romantic interests, which is higher quality "True Feeling" Chocolate.

On White Day, Men give girls gifts that gave them chocolate. The gifts are expected to be more expensive then what the girls spent on the chocolate, as a way to 'pay them back' basically. But it's not just candy they give. They give chocolate, candy, and non-edible gifts like Jewelery or white clothing.

  • @katrandom If the chocolate given to him was giri-choco, the man, likewise, may not be expressing actual romantic interest, but rather a social obligation. But, I don't necessairly know how seriously Japanese highschool boys take things.

  • @katrandom can you plz help me with some thing...(hoping you said yes ^_^ ) can you give m estep by step of how to become a exchange student like

who to get into a program? / how much?/ and plz give me step by step plz >_< .thank you

  • @katrandom Your almost right in what you said.

On Valentine's Day in Japan, the girls are supposed to give chocolate to the boy they like "kinda like confessing their love to them" and on White Day, which is on March 14, the boys that received chocolate, are supposed to give white chocolate in return (or any kind of present it seems nowdays) to the girls that gave them something and this is like accepting the confession of the girl, but from what you said, it seems that this tradition is gone

  • @KratosDivine Also, the thing about girls giving chocolate to each other is called "Tomochoco" or something like that, which comes from the word "Tomodachi" that means friend in Japan and those are like chocolates you give to your friends or people you care about without any real feelings attached, those are just for friendship.

  • @katrandom lol Japan highschool is soooooooooooo wierd lol :P i had to go there or a bit due to soccer its so odd from any other school

  • cool vlog! keep them comin! I will definitely sub scribe!^^ come check my channel out if you can and happy valentines day

  • omg chobits D:

  • kat..what is the title of the song and the the artist..

    pls do tell me ok..

    i really need it..ehhe

so luv it..here i give 1 choc for you..

    thanks...

  • @hinagiku90

The song is "Let me be with you" its from the anime chobits

  • lol kat.. so how's japan??

    did u have bf there??

    hehe..

    jz curious...

  • LOL White day two years ago was very special for me...I got a beautiful card and a lovely and long letter from my valentine ^_^ It is celebrated by certain people to really show they care- if they are very romantic- and sensitive. I got lucky it seems...lol

  • did you graduate from high school in america or are you just young?

  • I already graduated in America, this is more like a "gap year" although I'm spending it in a Japanese high school.

  • @katrandom That is wierd.

  • @katrandom thats so cool, I wanted to do that too, but I just graduated and plan to be a returning student in my same school, and then go to university 3: !

  • While applying for the program for your study abroad did you get a full scholarship in order to go? Or did you have to apply for many of them to combine them? I'm looking at all the programs and I can't find one full scholarship to Japan for 2010.

  • I didn't get any scholarship - unfortunately they're not exactly common...

  • Cute uniform, How many do u have?

  • 2: winter and summer uniforms.

  • Nice choice in song; Chobits opening. :D

    Alright, yeah, that's pretty depressing. Everything is totally commercialized. WHERE'S THE LOVE? ;_;

  • @TheMegaShelly thank you :)

  • @TheMegaShelly oh i said thank you for telling the song xD i forgot to say

  • whats the song name ? ^_^

  • Hahahaha, XD

thats very weird bcuz the animes/dramas were like " OMGOMGOMGOMG WHAT SHOULD I GIVE HIM?!?? " or " GOTTA MAKE THE PUUURFEECT CHOCOLATE FOR HIM"

Oh 1 question for ya; Hows it going in school?

Do you have like .. biology and stuff?

And do u understand most of it?

    XD

    ur awesome kat!

  • that's not true!! In Japan, I received chocolate from a girl who is now my girlfriend on valentines day. And then I made her chocolates for white day. It's up to you to decide whether or not you want to make something out of that day. I had a lot of friends who made chocolates for close friends and co-workers too...

There's different types... like "tomo choco" etc. But I never heard of girls making them just for themselves.

The real question is, are you going to make them for a boy? ;)

  • I might be sending some to my boyfriend in America....

  • ooh I see, yea I like valentines day like this though... as a guy, it's a nice switcheroo :P

Even now, back in America, I'm sticking to the rules of valentines day and white day ^_^

  • as a teacher in Japan, I always got some giri choco on V-day - always homemade and always delicious :)

  • This is exactly why it is so easy for a gaijin to go to japan and find himself a lovely japanese wife.. very sad that these guys are scared to express themselves to the girl they love...

  • Hey Kat!

    That is... pretty lame. Question:

I've heard that Japanese people tend to want to conform and not stick out. So, if there were a confident male or two, do you think they would be successful? Would they be suave lady-killers or just ignored for being weird?

  • Hmmm generally, they would be considered weird. Unless, they happen to be extremely attractive, and in that case they're just admired....

  • Lol thts funny, how right next to all the chocolate recipe things, there are diet book things xD

  • How much time do you have left in Japan?Doesnt the shool year end around Feb/March...?

  • T_T poor girls. I never would have guessed from dramas/animes myself that Valentine's Day was so different!

  • Well I hope you have a good V-Day no matter what :)

  • Are you and your friends going to make chocolates for valentines day? It's really sad that boys don't give girls anything, then again, I only ever received something from a boy on V-day cause he's my best friend and he knew I didn't have a boy friend who'd give me something. But I've always wanted to make my female friends some chocolates or candies but they're the type who wouldn't appreciate the effort. -_-

  • @ShadowVampira well there's still white day for boys :)

  • Kat, I will make you chocolate and send it to you D:

    YOU DESERVE SOME. :3

  • Yeah FIRST!!!

Ok, nach deinem "wie werden Leute gequält on TV" hab ich mir schon gedacht das Japan alles ein bisschen anders macht!!!

Hab mich wirklich über dein "Kulala, Heidi" Video gefreut!

    Bis zum nächsten mal

    xoxo
