Peaked? Peaked? Peaked? Give me a break. Yes if Rush was worried about album sales ,popularity, commercial success , hall of everbody fame, and fame itself instead of art and musical genius; you might have something .....YOU DONT!
A good song with a great guitar solo for Rush this is average which is better than most at their best!!!!The masters rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@thegreenybeenyhazpie that hall of fame is a joke. if tony bazil(oh mikky your so fine) can be in it, and not a credible band like rush, then you know it is rediculous, to say the least. what criteria is used to be inducted? it certainly isnt album sales, touring attendence, radio play, musicianship, influence on other bands etc., because these guys would have been in long time ago if it were. no, its if your liked by a select group of industy insiders and writers. they are to good for it.......
i think the best thing about Rush is how much people argue about WHICH Rush is the best; that is, they've had so many different sounds over the years that we fans can argue about which we prefer, kinda like how fans argue about their favorite band.
@waffelcone i dont think its much of an argument about when rush peaked, the fans/general population has already voted on that . From 77-87 was their peak influence as demonstated by objective sales data of new material and air play. Current & recent rush tours are reflective of their past glory as new younger fans only make up a fraction of the white male dominated 40-50yr ish old crowd. Very few fans show up b/c of any new material as documented.
Rush has got to be one of the best bands ever, probably the best, and this is one of their best songs... And a great recording of it... I think its just fantastic!! :)
I saw them for the first time on the Signals tour and haven't missed them since on any stop they've made in Phoenix. I write down the songs in the order they play them and have yet to hear this one in concert. It is my favorite on Grace Under Pressure (still my favorite concert shirt). If I could pick one song for them to play in concert, it would be this one. I've been waiting for more than 25 years. They are the best!
Thanks for posting this. September 27, 1984 was my first ever Rush concert. I was up in the nosebleeds, but loved this concert. Just took out the ticket stub. $13.50.
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
There is - well, close to the whole show. It does not include the encore, but otherwise has the whole show. Go to the Digital Rush Experience for some information on this show.
Funny that you ask this. I was also that this show (in the way, way back!). I somehow tracked someone down and he recently burned a copy of the entire concert and sent it to me. There are 16 songs on the cd. Not sure if it includes the encore or not (the last song on the cd is Tom Sawyer). Let me know if you're interested.
@SciMasterGeneral lucky u saw them just at their peak, very few filler songs on the Signals or P/G tour. Now we have to painfully listen to crap from material made anytime after 2000 in tours today to get to the good stuff 77-87. the next tour should called 77-87 decade of greatness. the new stuff is unlistenable, despite the quality musicianship.
Hey Fendergibs - Go see the Time Machine Tour. 3 hour show including the entire Moving Pictures album, plus some wayback songs from every album in the catalog including, yes some of the newer stuff. You show open your mind and give the new stuff a few more listens, they are still making great music after 40 years.
@younggotribe yes I did at Mohegan Sun. The MP part was the best 35 min or so I have ever seen in concert, it flowed so well and the crowd was electrified. The Camera eye, a song I never thought they would play live again was probe the best song by any band that I have seen live. Since 1990 they put out some ok material, since 2000 it been unlistenable, except for a few tracks off S&A.
my main point is why play filler when u have 1st rate stuff to play from 77-87. play what 90% to hear .
@fendergibs This is not at their peak! They had already jumped the shark at this point! WTF are you talking about. The eighties were a terrible period for RUSH.
@fendergibs Snakes and Arrows is a fantastic work. If Clockwork Angels follows Caravan and BU2B singles with this epic production it could be greater yet. As for using the term "flops' better check out some of the most successful tours in recent years and dont forget they are still in the top four for most consecutive gold albums. NOt only do they produce the quality studio album, they come out and do what they do live. Attendance also speaks for itself.
@rushfan9thcmd the records for the past 10 yrs have been complete flops. S&A was better yes, but pales in comparison to anything from 77-87. I did not say anything about the tour which I attended & it made money from the fact they played and highlighted the tour based on playing the entire Moving Pic record. The new material does not bring in any new fans as wittiness by the 90% attendance of middle age white males who grew up during rush's peak 77-87. Nothing wrong with this, the way it is.
@rushfan9thcmd . They had the right idea, tour without a full new release, many older band do that with great success, rush should do the same. BU2B is horrendous anyone with ears and a memory would have rather heard kids gloves or red lens, analogue kid, grand designs .....the list goes on......
@fendergibs PLaying Moving Pictures in full in order was a great idea and was amazing live. Hearing The Camera Eye in person on opening night and other shows was better than those you listed. Not that hearing those would have been ok. Considering they were not exactly on promo tour for the new album. BU2B sounds great as studio but it was was great live. Clockwork Angels will be another great work. I have not seen Kid Gloves live, but seen the others. Camera Eye stole the show.
@rushfan9thcmd Camera Eye has not been played live in over 15 years & I agree it was the best song I have heard live by any band. Clockwork Angles will sell the 1st week of release, then flop off the charts. I havent bought a studio release since TFE 1996.
@fendergibs The Camera Eye was played all last year during the playing of the entire Moving Pictures album in sequence. I only made 3 shows last year. To say it hasn't been played live in 15 years is inaccurate. They played it live all over the country last year and Europe and South America. You missed out I guess. They are touring again this spring with 13 shows then Europe and back into the US. Opening night in Florida on March 30. Seen 48 shows myself since 1982. Watch Camera EYE on YT.
@rushfan9thcmd gee wiz man your ADD must be kick into high gear, i said i saw them at the tour last summer (Time Machine Tour ) heard it for the 1st time ever at that show, prior to that show the last time it was played was i think 1984. Tour was good, hope they put it on Blu-ray. hoped they played more songs from the past, P/G had zero songs, bummer, which is why thet dont need to play new crap like BU2B, faithless, carvan, work'en them angles, also stick it out was a terrible choice. zzzzzz
@fendergibs DVD Cleveland filming is being touted for this spring. Snakes is is better work than HYF, PW and P/G, not discrediting any of those. Better choices from CP indeed. Wouldn't want to wager on your calling next tour and album a flop eh? Billboard stats speak volumes. Live Nation stats as well. NOt sure what show you attented, but all the women and kids now attenting the shows change that 90%male demographic much much lower. This trend has increased greatly.
@rushfan9thcmd hope they focus on sound production quality. HYF was considered kinda gay when it was released, rush even admitted they lost many fans at this time as there peak was fading fast. S&A is good but I stilll think mission is better than any song off S&A and it plays well live. Rush personally has bad taste, style art, thinking ect but are top musicans, this " bad taste " lead to the shift towards syth sound as they fired T.Brown & stated they did not want to make another MP like rec.
@fendergibs also for your enjoyment here is the title of the video here on YT. Camera eye at Red Rocks last summer. "Rush "The Camera Eye" Red Rocks 8/16/2010 - Time Machine Tour " search the title, just copy/paste.

Wow - how many times did they play this on tour before it was dropped! That was awesome. I have only heard the pre-GUP version before. They should have kept Kidd Gloves in the set. I'm going to google "ROIO "Tip of the Iceberg" and "rapidshare" right now.
alex fair play... thoughtful solos always had soul listen to this....playing second fiddle to geds synth etc.. still coming up on top.. analog kid is the killer solo
Good sounding performance of an obscure goody from Rush. I really don't care for Grace Under Pressure that much, and I thought that the 1984 tour was abysmal for the "singles" setlist. But even I this is a cool one. Neat guitar work. The mixing was better here than on the Moving Pictures Tour.

Wow - how many times did they play this on tour before it was dropped! That was awesome. I have only heard the pre-GUP version before. They should have kept Kidd Gloves in the set. I'm going to google "ROIO "Tip of the Iceberg" and "rapidshare" right now.

They should play this live again. This would be a fun song.

Definately! This song and "Half the World" are my top wishes for live songs.
