I met Geddy in Worcester, MA after a show that I worked at the Centrum during the 80's. He sat in the middle of the club (The Metro) on a bar-stool with his arms folded and an ugly look on his face. Some people occasionally tried to approach him but he dispatched all of them, including me, with rude and snippy comments. Alex was much nicer. I hope Geddy has found the proper way do deal, or not deal, with fans.
@DukeStarbuckle Well that seems like he was clearly having a bad day and didn't want to deal with people. I will agree that Alex is an amazing nice guy though.
This was such a great tour, my wife an I took our fathers for the show in Washington for Father's Day. But one thing was wrong that the tech said, that tele can't be stock 52 reissue, the bridge is totally different, it is independently intonate-able, and it is not an ashtray bridge.
@2012wyvern oh I agree, the thing is... the interview would be with the FOH guy Brad not geddy because very little of it is stuff Ged would like to even talk about... haha "so this is DI box # 3!"
i would do all sorts of weird thgs for just one of those access guitars w/ the peizo system, i never thought i would want a Floyd in a les paul but now i do!!
i dont see the point of having all that bullshit... lol... i mean seriously... why do people define themselves by how many gadgets they can use while playing?
@BurgerGrabber As a musician, it's not about defining yourself by how many shiny effects boxes you have, it's about the search for a new sound. He has obviously found a lot of sounds he enjoys. Don't hate because you don't have the cash to own them all too. I sure as hell don't. I barely can afford the guitar and amp I own now.
I played Alex Lifeson's Gibson Les Paul and it was a fine guitar. I want one, but be warned; it doesn't sound quite as beefy as a Traditional or even an '08 Standard. It's quite a lot thinner, and less wood is used.
The far left guitar in Alex's stand is the black Gibson 345 he used on the Tom Sawyer video for the lead. I still cant find out why he would tote it in his rig and never use it. I want to see him play it! I also want it more than any of the guitars he's ever used
Fairly simple setup. (heavy sarcasm) Is all that really needed? I like the Angus Young rig myself. It would be a short video. A Gibson SG plugged into a Marshall, crank you shit out of it, and then rock out. Ok, maybe a tuner in there somewhere.
@sixstringfretter For somebody with the name sixstringfretter your question exposes your ignorance with respect to the type of bands they are. Rush continually changed, ACDC stayed the same. I learned to play guitar in the 80s listening to Van Halen, Rush, AC/DC, Early Metallica, Yngwie, and of course one of the greatest Guitar players ever in Rock Angus Young. You can't expect Alex to play Bytor and Snowdog and then play something off of Signals with the same equip..come on dude.
I'm not going to watch this again, but at some point he makes the comment "A fairly simple setup" or something like that. All I am saying is that it is FAR, FAR from a simple setup. I used the Angus rig as an example of what a "simple setup" really is. Now you go and accuse me of comparing styles and growth as musicians and crap. Lighten up dude, I was not taking a crack at anyone here, just the simplicity of one rig to another. I love 'em all. Especially Alex Lifeson and Rush. Cool?
Interesting how Alex is using a regular Triamp for his main and his signature series for the dry. Also, I guess Alex's rig really is a 'tri-amp' with three amps running at the same time for a few of the songs hehe.. Also great to see him with some more backup gear in place; the four shows I saw on this leg of the time machine tour I don't think there were any technical problems at all. Between all these rig reviews for Alex, I don't think there's much that has been left out at all, thanks!
@KotowTV Or could it be the most perfect and most versatile guitar Gibson has ever produced? I guess it depends if the glass is half full or half empty! :P
So why was the sound going in and out at the toronto concert, uffle

Rock on good people.

Fucking Nice! You know when they are great musicians when they put overboard money into what they love.

All this amps, effects and heavy routing but no cabs anymore... What's the Axe-Fx for? I missed the point.
