I made the desktop look that way. I like the Mac os layout. The desktop was all me. Solaris normal does not look like that. OOO Stop comparing this os to Apple, and Microsoft. This Operating System is in a class of its own.
Windows is crap. Our Government uses Solaris for most of are weapon systems. Solaris is also used by ATM, Some cars, Nasa, Power Companies, Cell Phone Companies. Even you windows Os needs java for most internet use.
@stinkomalinko look like it but its pretty damn advanced with people who designed java so like everything java it takes a shit load of memory and shit.... :/
@hrvatskafarkas No. Solaris is Sun's version of Unix. Linux is an OS similar to Unix and their programs can run on a unix machine as well as on their Linux computers at home. Unix is older than PC-Dos, Windows, or any Apple. The new versions have a GUI which makes it user friendly (and it is not) where the original versions was like working with MS or PC-Dos.
@semco72057 Dude have you used Opensolaris. They are based off the same soucre code. and the are easy to use. Learn to work it by using it. I use Solaris XDE, Solaris 10, and Opensolaris and have no problem working with them.
@OManlong No I have not used OpenSolaris yet, but figured it was like regular Solaris, which I have two copies of from Sun. It looks good until you want to setup the printer, and network hookup. The book I bought for Solaris 8 is so complicated until the average laymen wouldn't learn much from it.
Unix forever.

is solaris linux or??
hrvatskafarkas 2 years ago
They are both off springs of unix. the only thing they have in common is the Gnome Interface.
Solaris needs a lot of Ram and Processing Power.

can you have KDE with it??
coldironhands1 1 year ago
@coldironhands1 Yes. KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc. Most all of your favorite Windows Managers (WMs) are available on Open/Solaris. =)
