Do you have to call it Magellan all the time or can you give it like a different name. I wouldnt mine naming my GPS "Kit" or some thing like that.

Funny thing the gps reviever is not going to take a run-on command. for instance "showmap" is two words so you say SHOW...MAP. Do not say two words without a pause between the words.

Do you own one of these? I ask because I disagree with what you're saying. The Magellan does a good job with recognizing words strung together in plain English. I can say "nearest-coffee" or "where-am-I" just the way I normally would (no notable pause), and it knows what I'm saying. Its voice recognition is pretty good. I own a 3250, btw.

LOL, "Show Map" is not a command from VR. There should be 7 commands from the "Say a Command" list. Now, shall we say "Try again!" LOL. It's a great unit. It runs Windows CE Core 5.0 so you can enable to play MP3, Video, SlideShow, and more... using TCPMP.

Wow its that bad at picking up your voice with that littl ebackground noise, what happens while you are driving? With no reference for the cars acousitcs I bet it gets much worse based on the vehicle.

I have this unit and the voice command works awesome. FYI "Show map" is not a command that is programed into these units.

I have this unit and the voice recognition sucks goat testicles. However the built in TMC receiver for traffic information, etc is VERY handy. Always works here in Portland, OR. The voice recognition sucks though and even when you DONT say "Magellan", it will pick up regular conversation and mistakes it for "Magellan" Very annoying.

changed my 4040 to 4050 :) you know what my ex 3000T had more POI's. and it was listing more than expensive 4050 when you select Near Poi's.

Voice recognition still has a long way to go. But given background noise and the acoustics in a car, you have to just about shout at it. But looks like Magellan's coming along. Hello Garmin???? How bout voice commands on the C550?

I think having voice commands for technology is pointless at the moment unless you are disabled. It still has to come a long way before the general public will take it seriously.
