  • cant help thinking page sounds awesome and plant is unusually average

  • I think this is my favorite version of this song purely because of Jimmy's playing. Absolutely, raw and blistering. When you're as fearless as this band was sometimes you're going to be "sloppy" but you're also going to be transcendent. "Better to live one day as lion, than a 100 years as a sheep" or something like that.

  • thought u 'd prob dig the PRESS GANG if u dig zep. --met Pagey -lovely bloke (used to live up the road from me. Dave.

  • @dpPressGang Epsom?

  • @Rafterman123 na East grinstead --sussex--he hasnt lived in epsom for years ---he lived in the next village up , he s in london now

  • @Rafterman123 hes actually really decent --chatted to him and asked him to say something to the kids at a band nite i was runnin at the time he was all polite and said Dave im sorry im bit busy to come down ----i said naaa ---just gimmie a message from you to tell the kids , oh he says tell em hello from me and have a great nite. hey ive posted another video response -have a look -it s pagey inspired -but taken further ---violin guitar stuff ..dave

  • I want that outro to be playing when i die.

  • How Plant, Page, Ozzy, Richards are still alive after all the cigs, drugs and booze is beyond me lol

  • just run'n-off at the mouth/over the edge - shouldn't have spoken as i did. - you have every right to ... peace out.

  • i try to find a live of this song where plant sing like the original . help

  • @ROLthe this ones better anyway, your welcome.

  • jimmy is as high as a fucking kite here.

  • Comment removed

  • @JohnAllanification do I need a point to make a comment, FAGGOT?

  • Look at Jimmy with the stoag in his mouth like a fuckin' badass. Not to mention he thrashes...

  • awesome!

  • when your that good you can pull off a freakin olive drab turtleneck and tan slacks

  • It's not a tribute; this really is the Greatest Song in the World.

  • Plant sounds like fucking shit.

  • only a souless robot classifies a guartarist as good or not, by "sloppiness". 2:30-3:30 is pure heaven and improvisation. If you cant see that, you're just another souless asshole from the mtv generation.

  • @MrSistermaryelephant exactly its jimmy page he looks at the overall sound not just technique, its the collective sound that matters from everyone and thats what makes good music

  • I envy one of you lucky bastards who got a LIVE BOOTLEG of this whole concert!

  • @4:20 thats why they invented electricity!

  • Page got sloppier over the years largely due to his always being strung out as fuck on heroin. COmpare his playing in 79 to his playing in 73

  • @ChablesMan Be glad you get your shit together, mr. wisenheimer, btw, who are you ?

  • @dockaiser I'm ChablesMan, of course.

  • "im a robot im not sloppy tu tu tu tu"

  • when the giants walked earth

  • Awww man, this really brings back some old memories, thanks for posting!

  • Page is a god because of his studio work but he's a sloppy muthafu*&^ live.

  • @badsantaro He's not sloppy.

  • @lionellogan He is sloppy, though that's a lot to do with his style. Just like how Hendrix would play random notes > . >

  • @MSoltan1992 Hes not sloppy

  • @lionellogan He is. It's not a negative thing. Without him being sloppy, he wouldn't be Jimmy Page

  • @badsantaro

your mum was sloppy in bed :-)

  • @badsantaro

Hes a musical genius. One of the most influential guitarists in rock history.

Though his live playing wasnt as accurate and clean, but it had more power and you never knew what was gonna happen.

Even Jimmy hates some shows and loves others, just as we do. Drugs sometimes worked for him, but not everytime. Playing guitar while youre high as fuck aint easy. A clean performance is impossible, but you might end up playing really badass shit!!! am I right Jimmy?

  • @gewerh44 yeah sure - smart ass

  • And one more thing : Read "Hammer of the Gods" if you haven't already. As a matter of fact, I'm going to roll up a fatty & watch "The Song Remains the Same" right now.

  • I love Led Zeppelin but let's face it - their live performances got worse over time. Plant sounds great on the studio version. This performance has him sounding like a drunk girl sitting in with a cover band. Page is sloppy and out of tune. John Bonham (as plastered & opstreperous as he constantly was) and John Paul Jones always played well. Thanks but I'll stick to their studio & EARLY live stuff.

  • Freaking hell, if Page can still play like this while off his tits on heroin he's clearly somehow super human. It's the only explanation.

  • is it just me or are others sick of people putting comments just for the sake of getting thumbs up? If I watch another classic rock vid that has a comment like "thumbs up if Justin Bieber sucks, this is real music!" I will snap.... and since every video has these comments it is inevitable that I will snap.

  • @kingv911 Sounds like you need to step away from youtube.

  • @StealYourFace1000 wat the hell u smokin, chump

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Hannah Montana, I say Beatles

You say Owl city, I say Deep Purple

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Justin Bieber, i say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, i say Guns & Roses

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thunb this up, then copy and paste it to least 5 video's. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK DIE

  • @Dmdmello you're gay just watch the video

  • This is like the final thing that Zeppelin ever did that was credible. Drugs are bad, kids.

  • jimmy was clearly fuck up he usually is sicker

  • Im part of that 1% of young teens that enjoy MUSIC

  • @laxbro518 I disagree with you, most people who I've shown this song to ended up really loving it.

  • @laxbro518 more like part of the 20%

  • @laxbro518 me to :D

  • @laxbro518 shut up about your age. it doesnt make you cool. like what you like.

  • @MrSleazymoney bro y do u actually give a shit what i say and i dont get how that makes me cool.

  • Im part of that 1% of teens who actually enjoy MUSIC

  • vieck - my apologies to you. John last played 7 July 1980 and sadly passed away 25 September of that year. I always assumed that Knebworth was his last appearance until I researched the correct facts today. I thank Led Zeppelin for the musical gem that they were, I very much doubt that we will see/hear their like again within the rock sphere of music. A one-off.

  • wow jimmy was the greatest

  • livinlifted91 - I was there. Knebworth 1979. I was 21yrs old. It was their last concert before John Bonham (God rest his soul) passed away. It was awesome as I grew up with their music from the age of 11yrs. I am trying to learn this on guitar (today) I'm now nearly 53yrs (but 21 again watching this). No other band has come anywhere near to equalling what Led Zep gave us. Led Zep 1 - 4 should be compulsory listening to all children at age 12. Approx. 1/3 of their output was acoustic!

  • @s0ngsfr0mthew00d Their last before Bonham died? They toured Europe in 1980...

  • I'd love to hear Jack black do anything like this.

  • Yeeaaah Zep.

  • jimmy's toasted!rock and roll

  • Backstreet boys rule!

  • This is just amazing. I wish I could have seen this live.

  • this is what is missing from live concerts today, a song that's different frm the single album, something that adds to the show. we like your music artists, but show us that you can also impress us live

  • my face....melted away

  • CALLING PAGE - help me out here and tell me how you do that wicked cord about 12 seconds in the intro. Sick and awesome!!!

  • I'm fingering my ass as I type this

  • FUCKIN PAGE RULES!

I DONT THINK JAMES IS INHALING!

  • FUCKIN PAGE RULES!

  • Zeppelin makes my hard drive harder!

  • I LOVE LED ZEPPELIN

  • im just reading the comments below... people are compairing Beatles and Zep..

How can ya do that? i mean they are both legendary in their own right. Just leave it at that ay?

Led Zep over the Beatles hands down.

  • @xxCheeseNcrackerSxx TWO DIFFERENT GROUPS! you see harrison ripping solos like page?

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN TO THE FUCKING MUSIC ALREADY!

  • Oh and by the way - there's no Classic Rock band that would do without the others. Making awesome music is teamwork.

  • If theres ANY WAY POSSIBLE, I'll listen to Zep At the moment I die and for ETERNITY!

    God................I LOVE THIS BAND!!

  • Haven't listened to zep in a long time, probably 8 years. It was weird seeing this video. I guess I was a pretty naive teenage, because I never noticed how fucked up these guys look. I would hear stories about them doing drugs and now I can actually see it.

  • My God!!! What a freakin' awesome solo my main man, Jimmy!!!! No one can touch it....

  • wow, these guys are crap live.

  • @Polybun not alway"s! they love to improvise, which does cause mistakes!! still the best band ever! imop! i didn"t think this performance was bad! not great tho!

  • @MegaZephead Greatest band ever? Are you retarded? Seriously, all these guys were doing was rehashing old blues standards and randomly using names from tolken books. To be the greatest you have to be an inovator. These guys innovated nothing. They did absolutely nothing new.

The performance was fucking terrible. Often times the lead leaves key. The drumming is sloppy, the lyrics are flat. It's fucking terrible. There are plenty of bands that improv and don't sound like garbage.

  • @Polybun not innovater"s!!!!!!!!!!!!! please,!!! your criteria blow"s!! sure the blues influenced zep, so did elvis, everybody has them!! they are the blueprint of rock!!! they didn"t create nothing new!???? WTF!!! i should have known, your STILL trying to learn how to ride a bike!!!!!!?? drumming sloppy!!!!! WOW! that"s a first!!!!

  • @MegaZephead Lots of bitching on your part, but I don't see you mention any musical innovations created by these folks. (hint, there aren't any.)

Elvins.. I'm no fan of his either. All he did was take advantage of the fact that the country was so racist at the time a hack like him could get by on just ripping off niggers.

  • @Polybun my friend, i was not bitching at u!! i have a wife for that!!!!!! lol, when zep started we not u had good times bad times, comm breakdown, your time is .... how many more times, zep 2 ramble on wtf cares what book plant was reading at that time!! heartbreaker, thank you !!!!!! that is a song by the way! zep 3 immirgrant song!!!!! tangerine,.. 300+million lp's and stairway is right around the corner but you are on the other side of town.

  • @MegaZephead I'm not your friend. Dont' make that mistake dumb shit. When you can start using proper english. Then you can call me friend. Until that day though, fuck your mother.

All you did was mention some song titles and brag about their record sales. That has nothing to do with innovation. Like I said, they were just another boring band that played really loud.

  • @Polybun go see a quack! dickhead! u got issues

  • @MegaZephead So because I view things in at a rational adult level, I have issues? You really are stupid.

  • @Polybun Excuse me Ma'am, but if you don't like Zep(everyones entitled to their own opinion) why are you on this site?Just curious!!

  • @charger4079 Because youtube hosts more than just zep crap?

  • Comment removed

  • @charger4079 Fuck peace. Lets kill and make war. It's far more sexy.

  • @Polybun this does sound pretty poor but do yourself a favour and find some more mate specifically royal albert hall 1970 msg 73 and earls court 75. plenty to get stuck in to. then come back and reply to me :)

  • ...is that a Senior Service dangling from Jimmy's mouth!

  • Wow 11 people have no musical taste whatsoever. Your bad

  • you see, no music is "good". its all a matter of opinion. I for one think that 70s and 80s rock was the best music. No matter what though, this is a FACT- it does not take ANY talant to have a computer fix all of your vocal mistakes. There are opinions on what music is good, but there is no debating what takes skill or not. everyone here has to admit one day that some of these new artists have a bit of talant, but most of what people call talant these days is false.

  • yes there once was a time when rock gods ruled the world....why o why is music the way it is today...thumbs up if you agree

  • i envy every one of you lucky bastards who got to witness these gods of rock play live music

  • @livinlifted91 my sister saw zep in 75 richfield oh fans without tickets threw rocks at the windows of the coliseum!!! thats all she remembers!!! to top it all off she didnt do drugs either!!! to this day i still ask her you have to remember something from the show!!!!! talk about a waste of a ticket!! i was only 7 at the time man just give all of us a chance to see the greatest band live ONCE!!! i know i would remember something!!!!

  • @livinlifted91 it was absolutely wicked!!!

  • @livinlifted91 IT WAS AWESOME!!! Both times. It has never been equaled!

  • @livinlifted91 i agree with you completely!!!

  • @livinlifted91 Just to compound your abject misery, I saw Zeppelin in 1969 in a small hall behind a pub called The Rounhouse in Dagenham, Essex just after the first album came out. The hall held 300 people and the band were sensational. I also saw Derek and the Dominoes second ever British gig, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and loads of other great bands in the same place and they were all great. It only cost 15 shillings in those days (75 pence in today's money). Have a nice day.

  • Man. I finger my ass during that epic solo every time

  • @MrSistermaryelephant Ya, its just something you cant help to do when it comes up... haha

  • knebworth was awesome - everyone was strung out in 1979, so i'll led the zeppelin have a pass

  • i wish i would have been born back then, so i could have watched all these great bands play..i wish people could make music like this these days, what am i suppose to tell my kids..i could watch hannah montana concerts??? fuck that!!! my dad tells me about all these great zeppelin concerts and aerosmith concerts..makes me wanna cry

  • @f150man55 I was a teen when they were hot, but top 40 was still crap. Disco and other shit. It wasn't easy getting Zep on the radio. We had to buy their records and tapes. It was still a great time to be alive though, Pink Floyd, Stones, among other greats. Thank God for the net Eh?

  • @cep32101 yes sir, thank god for the net so i can still watch em jam

  • @cep32101 they rarely released singles in the uk so wernt in the charts much

  • god damn

  • Jimmy kicks ass .. and with a cigarette dangling from his lips to boot. How the f**k is that possible? The man is a God.

  • I would have given my left nut to have seen this show. Then again, I was only 2 years old at the time.

  • @MisterAnimalChin I feel you man, I was minus 11, doesn't seem fair!

  • Artists need to start doing more heroin. Or at the least Psychedelics. They're great muses.

  • Ripped on heroin, Jimmy plays better than most could dream of clean

  • I doin't know how Jimmy can hold that cig and play so damn good. LOL

  • I love Zeppelin, but Plant was clearly very off-key on this one.

  • music gods at their best !!!!! Stirs every emotion!!!

  • jimmy is so fucked up in this video... makes me wonder how he can even stand up let alone play the guitar

  • @Ignore14 ?

  • @Tecumseh1812 slash's real name is saul

  • Jimmy is so high but sounds so awesome!

  • 1975 the 70's were my teens and i have such fond memory's - we were alive on fire and fueled by the passion of this music and its message. fun fun fun

  • fuck today's commercialized music. I can respect an artist / band that makes the music they love because they love it (don't get me wrong, Rock is and will always be my fav genre) but now music is about popularity and selling it to as many people as you can. Thumb if you believe music is about the music itself.

  • @slasherguitarmaster Music has always been 90% commercialized product and 10% raw artistic talent. I believe that Led Zeppelin and a few others such as the Beatles will be remembered because they had artistic talent. During their times, commercialized bands were just there to get their gig and make money while artistic musicians were worshiped. The problem is that today, talent is made fun of and commercial competition seems to be the most desired.

  • @slasherguitarmaster Thumbs up if you get annoyed by people always asking for thumbs up

  • @cody227 i gave u thumb

  • @cody227

    just like you lol

  • @slasherguitarmaster Right on Brother!

  • @slasherguitarmaster Director Jim Jarmusch's 3rd rule could be applied to record labels: Rule #3: The production is there to serve the film. The film is not there to serve the production. Unfortunately, in the world of filmmaking this is almost universally backwards. The film is not being made to serve the budget, the schedule, or the resumes of those involved. Filmmakers who don’t understand this should be hung from their ankles and asked why the sky appears to be upside down.

  • Wow...................were the heck did you fine this clip.

Major good time rockn to this classic......thanks

  • @italianzephead It's on a Led Zeppelin dvd lol, I own the dvd, though I wish to be on facebook at my computer and watch it here :P

  • Comment removed

  • was this style of the cigarette copied by Slash? wonder why i am thinkin this!

  • @stevetyler0506 possibly

  • @stevetyler0506

most of saul's style was from joe perry. :P

  • @tangymay saul? thank god he has a nick name.

  • @Ignore14

its a biblical name, i think.

  • @stevetyler0506 or maybe they just want to smoke a cigarette

  • there is no comparison at all! Led Zeppelin are a far better live band than The Who! they are musicians of the century!

  • musical talent= A+

sound quality... better luck next time.

  • lol, how can he mess up if its his song. who the fuck cares anyway, i relish jimmy pages mistakes, hes a demi god, i hate unnapproacheable perfection.

  • the fact that all of you are comparing jimmy to pete townshend while he was in the middle of a huge heroin addiction is kinda saying something about how good he was.....

  • @ASurvivor1

I'd have to agree with e.g. Townshend's live playing being much better! Page's studio leads were very calculated (and none the less genius), but this didn't work out as well live whereas Pete Townshend really shined live, as did The Who, being a better liveband than studioband anyways!

  • Should I dare be a douche and point out that Jimmy messes up at 1:39 , and 2:00? Nahh, I shouldn't. He is a God and should never be questioned.

  • Love this song and band!!

  • *sigh*

  • jimmy page = great guitarist/douche

  • Led Zep was a great 'studio' band, but they suck live. It's either Page doing great and Plant sucking or Plant sounding great, and Page sucking. Usually live, Plant sucks. I still love Zeppelin though.

  • @ASurvivor1 haaaaa! they were high most of the time :D

  • @ASurvivor1 I bet to differ, look at their older stuff from the early 70s. They only reason Page sucks here, and Plant can't sing for crap is because Plant has a throat surgery in 1974, and Page is in the middle of a heroin addiction. Listen to something from MSG 73 or Denmark 69, and you'll be amazed.

  • @Calibersz You have to admit his Page's 'Live' guitar leads don't measure up to his studio leads at all. I have a lot of early Zep Live on DVD and I'm mostly disappointed with Page's live guitar playing. Now Townsend, his live guitar is just as good as his studio stuff,

  • @ASurvivor1 Actually if you ever have time, type in "Stairway to Heaven live" and watch the MSG 1973 version. I think we can come to the conclusion that his playing is much better in that concert, than in the studio.

  • Lol, i know almost everyone smoked back then, but, lol, that cigarette makes him look so stupid.

  • The Beatles require a Great deal of Intellect to Understand. Led zeppelin Require Just as Great a deal of Intellect to Understand. As do Queen, Who, Floyd, Stones, Dylan, Beach Boys (Brian Wilson), Doors, Hendrix, and Many other Great Classic Rock artists.

To Intellectual People - these are all parts of a Whole, Greater than most of you will ever understand.

For those who are not Intellectual - Hard Rock like Zeppelin and Metal like Sabbath will always appeal more - because it's Simpler.

  • @CentraCross they also require an open mind... had some of my best trips rockin with zep... no drugs, just zep

  • @drunkattheparty Yes, an open mind and the imagination to realize what they're actually saying.

I agree, there's no need for drugs when the music itself is so mentally empowering.

However, if we only have Sex and Rock'n'Roll left, we'll have to find something else to complete the trinity.

  • @CentraCross sex, drugs and rock'n'roll is all we need, but in moderation... if you overindulge in one, then you miss the idea. the three are a ballance to be carefully kept

  • @drunkattheparty And if you want to loose the drugs alltogether?

  • @drunkattheparty sex, drugs, and rock n roll are a by-product of love. You don't get those things if you don't truly love what you do; Musically. People like you are the ones ruining it for all the people who love music for music. Not the superficial stereotypes.

  • @CentraCross Since Zepp fans are so 'simple' minded-let me put into simple words, that an arrogant "intellectual" fuck like you can EASILY understand-

LED ZEPPELIN -BIGGEST,BADDEST 'ROCK AND ROLL' band.........EVER!!!

  • @charger4079 Yeah they are, but there's a lot more to it than that. Which you need to be aware of when comparing them to other artist like The Beatles. That's what it was about, not critisizing your appreciation of the music.

Certain "Intellectuals" need to know their level.

  • @charger4079 I agree. i respect music that makes no claim to intelligence and just sounds great rather than tries to be 'deep' and fails as pretentious garbage. Zep's lyrics aren't trying to be intelligent- they're supposed to inspire you emotionally and spiritually once you forgo your rational mind.

  • @charger4079 amen

  • @charger4079 yeaaaaaaaah

  • @CentraCross I wouldn't exactly call Zeppelin simpler. They're song structures and riffs are one of a kind. But I agree with you 100% on these bands being part of a whole. I never would've thought of it that way.

  • @xGoWxZoltaN No, not Zeppelin as a band, but in many ways hard rock as a genre. Zeppelin obviously go way beyond any one else at anything they did, including turning simple Hard Rock into something highly advanced.

The thing is - Zeppelin actually created a lot of it, so it's extremely hard to compare them to other Hard Rock playing artists.

In the same way it's nearly impossible to compare The Beatles with other Classic rock acts, as they created most of it.

  • @CentraCross I thought composers like Stravinsky, Shostakovich, and Debussy made intellectual music, but I guess I was wrong. This is clearly what intellectual music is supposed to sound like:

    Love, love me do.

    You know I love you,

    I'll always be true,

    So please, love me do.

    Whoa, love me do.

And clearly the Beatles require more intellect to understand than Zeppelin. Two minute love songs are way more complicated than a ten minute epic with an army of guitars, a long solo, and time changes.

  • Comment removed

  • @MMAharaja Did you even read the whole comment or just the last paragraph? Zeppelin did simple(r) music AS WELL. It's called plain Hard Rock. I don't primarily admire Zep for the straight blues-rock riff songs they did - there were many others who did that, and did it much "simpler" (AC/DC) - but for the semi-progressive incredibly wide-genred softer, heavier Rock. Everything they did is awesome, but if you had to lose something - i'd rather lose the Metal.

  • @CentraCross The Beatles did some Hard Rock/Metal, but not near as much as Zeppelin - on the other hand they did more 50s style R'n'R.That was 4-5 years before Classic Rock started to grow, and 10 years before Zeppelin (though not Page). You listen to the rest of the music around that time and you'll see how different The Beatles actually were.

  • @CentraCross Of course I read the whole thing. I just noticed that you called out Zeppelin for releasing some simple songs while not calling the Beatles out when they did it too.

And metal can be extremely complex. I take it you haven't spent much time listening to technical death metal or prog metal. Even some classic metal is a lot more "intellectual" than the Beatles. As far as Zeppelin, one of their most musically "intellectual" songs, Achilles Last Stand, can be considered metal.

  • @MMAharaja Yeah I get what you're saying, but The Beatles' early stuff was actually more "intellectual" as such than most of the music around.

Many of you assume that Zep's and early Beatles' music can be compared on equal terms. It cannot. The difference the entire music world experienced, in all areas, between 62 and 70 is overwhelming.

There was more progress during The Beatles' 7-year recording career than during the entire 80s, 90s 00s and late 70s together - far more than during Zep's.

  • @MMAharaja And yes - Metal and Hard Rock can obviously be very complex - but that doesn't have to change how you listen to it. Simply the fact that it's a Hard, heavy, metallic song makes you appreciate it as "simple". Of course you can Really Listen to it and it will be difference, but it's more shrouded and easy-listened than for example Psychedelic or Rockabilly. With such songs you have to be more "aware" or it will all get "I don't get this - it's weird, and I think it sucks."
