this movie looks way too good for Tiish, you're wasting money that could be spent on making a low budget film.. since you're already there i just wanna say that your film is by far the best, both in story telling and film making ..NYU might have have the next Martin Scorsese lol
Oh yeah and ben you left comm arts leaving us with a new advanced video production class bunch in which there recruitment film was a fail.... sorry guys but its true.
Hey did you go to communication arts in SA?I go to BCHS and I saw a video on the comm arts website and you are in it. I want to go to tisch after I finish high school.
Easily the best Tisch portfolio film i've seen so far. where did you learn to do lighitng like that and where can i get some cheap lights? ill be making a tisch portfolio film soon, what were your academic scores and stuff like?
Great job man. I plan on applying to NYU as a transfer student as well. I'm working on a short that I will use as my portfolio. Any suggestions on length? Also, please go to my page and take a look at some short teasers I shot and edited for a documentary. Thanks!
The reel can be no longer than 10 minutes. I included two separate films (this one and a shorter one) that added up to about 9:59. They'd rather see completed work than just clips from many things you've done, not to say your reel can't be just clips if they're good.
Does that INCLUDE credits? Because I could see myself running into the issue of cramming the credits (excluding the opening titles with my name) at the end. I mean all they care about is my work right?
the film was actually too good to be used as a portfolio for tisch... i think u already had best skills to start up ur career as a film maker. you really worked hard on the camera angles n its pure direction tht makes it so interesting where u took care of every minute detail tht cud spoil the fun. Great work. Congrats.
That was fabulous! I am a junior, planning on applying to NYU for film. I'm sort of having an internal debate with myself whether to apply for film or to a simple english major, since my grades aren't too low. We'll see, but attending film school there is definitely a dream of mine. I wish you good luck there, this was amazing.
None whatsoever. All short films I've done were just videos and this is actually the first thing I've ever wrote (well, co-wrote). I worked with actually film for the first time this summer at NYU.
The Tisch application requires a creative portfolio that includes a dramatic essay. The website has all the information on it.
Diversity can mean anything from originality of your responses/ideas to your accomplishments and extra curricular activities in school. Doesn't always have to mean ethnicity/race.
I mean besides do good in school, I'm pretty sure they look a the creative portfolio more so, if not just as much as the creative portfolio. I mean I was a transfer, had a 94 GPA in high school and barely a 3.0 in college.
Just try and give them the most original content you have, especially the dramatic essay. Plus, they love "diversity".
awesome video..most application films are boring but i actually wanted to finish watching this one lol...great job, loved the lighting and the main actor
I love this very Scorsese-esque

To be honest, I'm not too fond of this since way way too many kids are doing noirs.
Nice work though, seriously. Good luck!
Psyburn 3 years ago
Yeah we didn't mean to hop on the Noir bandwagon initially, but it was the most developed of the ideas we had.
Thanks for the compliment.
