God I miss Lost. Rewatching the show now which is a different experience. Amazed at the trolls here. Once upon a time there was an island. Where the island came from is not germane to this story -it was just there, a given like Westeros or Middle Earth.

A few additional details are answered in the Lost Encyclopedia (which is canon) like who killed Ajira survivors & the DI & who ordered Widmore's expulsion (Widmore, Widmore & Jacob) and such but the show explained most of the big ones IMHO.

@crumbumcorvette Check out TheLostConstant; the Island's origins are explained there. I'm not too big a fan of The Lost Constant, but they do put up some very good arguments. Tell me if you think that's a satisfying answer for the Island. If you don't want to read Pearson's book, then at least check out his website. His essays are very good. The Lost Constant and Pearson Moore pretty much sum up what I want to say, so I'll leave it with them.

@Manfennas yes people do cling to shows similar to religion. both involve going to the same place week in and week out and listening to something that they think is important for about an hour. just because religion claims its hour is the most important doesnt mean that it is. many religious stories are much less interesting or complex or worthy of my time as entertainment that can found in tv movies or books.

@Manfennas the fundamental problem with lost is that the shows driving force is the questions that it raises and then doesnt answer. such as why there is a special island which hilariously in the finale they still didnt answer. the writers dug a huge hole and could not get out. smoke monsters time traveling islands and special lights are all poor plot devices. thank god those writers are super rich now so they can write more stupid crap thanks to you and your fellow losties

I attempted to watch the LOST seasons in order so it would make sence. i got to the 2nd season and i missed an episode. i gave up trying to figure out WTH was going on, you miss one and you are literally lost.
