that "quarter" is what cheapskates use in coke machines. they put a string thru the whole, put the quarter in the machine, then yank it out with the string :P
that 1707 coin might not be a token, that might be a state coin from way back before they had a national currency, i wouldn't toss it. ide check it out with a professional.
@MIgardener i am a professional . it is from the 1950/ 60s era. it is a memorial token for George Washington. of coarse i still have it in a display case right now.
Eh, it probably is a memorial token, I just want to point out I have a bracelet of silver dimes my grandmother made as jewelry for herself years ago; bracelets and earrings of dimes and quarters were a fad back then, she said; so, it's one possible explanation.
@Nastybeanlady you can find something good anywhere, i mean im over here on the east coast and i hardly ever find real old stuff, not counting the DIV civil war hunts i go on. out west there was jesse james and many coin caches.
@nuggetnoggin that is why im so freggin excited to start hunting Texas and New mexico i always go visit trails billy the kid and many other famous western men and women used to roam hells yeah heres to good hunting wooh!!
that quarter looking thing is not a quarter it is a memorial coin for GW it is suppose to have a hole in it... it is worth about $5000 a lot of people worn it around the neck. its real and the truth!!! I saw it on pawn stars.
that quarter looking thing is not a quarter it is a memorial coin for GW it is suppose to have a hole in it... it is worth about $5000 a lot of people worn it around the neck. its real and the truth!!!
Yes there is too such thing as silver nickels, you cant say im wrong. your a coin collector you should know about this stuff, i will tell you anyway. they were made from 1942 to 1945, 35 percent silver, 9 percent manganese and 56 percent copper. so i'm right . and also they are called silver nickels, there were made during WW2 becuase we needed nickel instead of silver . see us detectorist do this for the fun of it, not for the money from selling all are coins..
@HouseOfNOE they had silver half dimes in the 1860's small coins, and on the back they say 'half dime" that was before nickels were made though and the sheild that were made in the 1860's were not made out of silver, it was nickel.. they had silver nickels from 1942 to 1945.
hello if you have any of the coins left anymore what would you want for them? im a numismatist and would like to take a look at those coins you have found, and also at the end you said you had found silver nickles but just for informational purposes nickles were never slabbed in silver there were a few years that nickles has about 30% silver content in them but that was only for about 3-5 years and are hard to find
@akramer156 also just another FYI. over 869,896,100 silver-war nickels (1942 threw 1945) were made, there is plenty around. yea probably not as many in coin rolls or currency but they are still in the ground and i have dug many fof them .
the one coin that has George Washington on it was actually a medal made for the bicentennial of his death. They are really not worth much but it is a good collector's item. By the way, where do you live. I was thinking about places to go look for coins.
I am going to die from jealous.OMG. In my country I was looking everywhere to find even one mercury dime.I found one (not in very good condition) and bought it (it was not cheap). And now YOU ARE TAKING COINS FROM THE GROUND IN FRONT OF MY EYES........ but never mind, thank you for posting youre video, and good luck. (sorry if I made mistakes :)
The item is a funeral coin from George Washington's death. The hole is original; GW was a super-hero of his day... everyone mourned the loss and to show it they wore this type/style of coin.
@mokktarr yes i do, not sure if i had one at the time of this video i lost 3 garrett propointers, but just found all of them so i have them now, a pinpointer is a must have for metal detecting recovery.
Best metal detecting video I have seen in awhile.Good job! That must have felt great to find them coins so close together. Thanks for the video and keep up those great hunts.
If you have not already found out what the item was at 3:10, it is a token. It was not a coin. Durring the old days, many people used token and silver rounds and drilled a hole through them because most familes were poor and could not afford jewerly.
@andrewjconners yea i knew what it was, after i cleaned, it was to remember george washington and the hole is made like that. it was on that pawn shop show
the quarter might be back in the day people would drill a hole in the top of a quarter and put a string through it for vending machines. You put the quarter in then pull it back out with the string. You keep your quarter and get your pop all at the same time.
@thEannoyingE i mean it might be a pulltab to a beer can, on my metal detector, it show what i'm finding, such as foil, pulltab, penny, dime, quarter, half dollar etc. the signal was showing up as a pulltab, the pulltab signals are not always pulltabs there sometimes, buttons and gold coins, the had the same conductivity so the show up the same.
i think that george washington peice is a commemorative coin created at the time of his death. I think they were funeral/memorials that were pretty valuable. Reason for hole is they wore them around their necks ....
I don't know if you watch Pawn Stars on History Channel, but it's a reality show about a family owned pawn shop in Las Vegas and their interactions with customers that bring in odd items for sale. Typically, they evaluate items before making any offers on them. In one of the more recent episodes a man brought in a George Washington death commemorative medal with the hole drilled like yours. It was worth a lot of money. You might try googling that episode. Awesome find!
when george washington died america was in great mournig over his death so medals were made in honor of him some were from 1796 and others later but i belive thats what it is and they are valuble they were made with the hole so ppl could wear it around their neck so look it up and tell me what u think it might be lol
Bright and early? Wasn't very bright. But it was a great day! I found five nickels (three of them buffaloes) in one hole recently, but it sure doesn't match your finds.
That Washington token thing might have been used to trick old soda machines , in which you punch a hole into it and tie a string threw it and pull it back out of the machine , but who knows that just my guess!
Whooaa Nugget...Big Congratulations on those coin spills little brother...You just bested MY best of 4 s & an IH...Super cool...Now I gotta watch part two...Great Detecting Man
I used to get up a 5am to milk cows, lots of silver for U :) the one with the hole is maybe necklace thing...a silver nickel? this makes up for some not so good days :)
