No... just... just no. There is no reason for innocent animals to have to go through hell and back for humans. They are not our slaves. We do not own them.
This is an awesome video! I am a Laboratory Animal Animal Tech @ a University and I frequently see both sides of this ongoing battle between animal activists and scientists. We have made a lot of progress just the 3 years that I have been here. It is always sad when you see life lost, but as a Tech I do absolutely everything that I can to make sure our animals are pain free, disease free, and their cage surroundings are as close to natural as can be.
Has no one heard of the wide range of alternatives? Corrositex? Computer modeling? Improved statistical design? The Murine Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA)? The list goes on.
How about just the fact that an uncountable amount of research yields no results, let alone results that can continue to human testing which then often yield no results (because we are different species)?
This video makes it seem like it's a kill a dog or a human scenario, completely incorrect and skewed.
How do you use those methods to look at behaviour? How can computer modeling predict how an animal behave... without the use of animal data in the first place!
Research with no results is not a problem of animal research, but research itself. The same applies for human studies.
This video said nothing about a dog vs human. More like knowledge vs animal deaths (hope you're a vegan and don't own pets)
@nervousneuron P.S. Yes Vegan, and you're welcome to denounce everything I've said as folly since I do have pets (obviously meaning I'm into animal imprisonment, negating biological necessities, squashing natural behavioural urges and I'm sure you can think of a few more).
Most people are reasonable, and most people against animals in research have not been given sufficient information. This is a reasonable statement, put forth in a reasonable way, leading to just one reasonable choice.
Very well done. The use of animals in research is a complex and difficult issue to discuss openly. This video does an excellent job of highlighting the successes related to biomedical research and the future benefits of using animals to advance medicine. Importantly, people should understand that these advances also help animals (e.g., chemotherapy drugs for pets, heart valve replacements in dogs, kidney transplants in cats with kidney failure, etc.). Thank you Novartis!
As a practicing veterinarian and father, I offer my "thank you" to you, that I'm sure is rarely given to medical innovation companies. You deserve it for helping me and my colleagues in many medical professions, human and animal alike, to save lives.
A poignant way to deal with the fact that animal research continues to be vital for finding cures and therapies for the medical issues we face. Thanks, Novartis.
Thank you for this clear and provocative piece describing the connection between animal research and the alleviation of pain, suffering and preventable death. Because of scientific progress, it is difficult to imagine how many advances are right around the corner.... not just for human patients but also for pets, agricultural animals and even wildlife who benefit from many of the same medicines, surgical procedures and treatment strategies when their health and well-being is affected.
animal life needs to be sacrifice for others to survive. this is a sad fact of life.

I wonder how many potential cures we have missed because they don't work, or have bad side effects on certain animals but not humans?
I've heard penicillin might not have made it through, as it kills hamsters or something

Is this a joke?
