Probably the most sick and twisted band I've ever seen. They are definitely hard to understand, it took me a while to figure out the meaning of these lyrics, and holy fuck... this is dark. It really makes you feel uncomfortable and unsecure, but at the same time, it's a very interesting and strange piece of modern art, which keeps you want to discover and understand them. Very unique, exremely talented, and completely insane.

Meticulous structure is at the heart of Portal's craft in that the order in which musical ideas are delineated coincides with the nature of the lyrics. Take the gradual evolution of the pupa that eventually attain the status of masters in "Larvae", or the cyclical pendulum gone haywire in "The Swayy". Reducing the multi-faceted nature of Portal to a nondescript term is lame.

Swarth and Outre both have amazing riffs though.
