  • man first time i listen to this i could not find anything to it . after four or five times i realised what a MASTERPIECE this is.

  • So.

Duke, Joe, Bobby, Bob and Al are playing fine and mellow.

But it is Grant who sets the mood.

His leading solo sets the pace for the others to follow.

Instead of a 16-bar, Grant played an 32-bar.

So the others had to follow.

Alfred Lion stood smiling next to RvG.

Respect to this amazing guitarplayer , on the day that he died, 33 years ago.

  • Holy Hell. This is just amazing. So much emotion

  • This tune is what started my love of jazz.

  • <3 This takes my mind to a good-life-feeling.

  • This is my Cigar on a quiet night track. <3

  • Very soothing jazz guitar, so smooth, so nice and easy and the word "bliss" is just what it is! And throw in a little bit of "heaven", and what you have is GRANT GREEN!! Just added Green to my huge collection of jazz favorites! The entire group is exquisite and the 14 minutes could of gone on forever!...........................

  • Joe Henderson Comes In So So Smooth

  • @deadpoolcomicguy87 it's not a song

  • Wow! I thought jazz tunes usually sped up (lol). Can't recall another recording slowing down as much as this one did.

  • What a great line-up! I especially love Hutcherson's work on this tune.

  • And people think Pat Metheny was genius. Come on!

  • @johngoo343 Was? Pat Metheny is still alive. Lol.

  • @johngoo343 He is....

  • @uk6strings missed the point

  • Great track from a killer album. For me, the highlight is always the transition from Duke's wonderful solo into Joe's breathy entrance.

  • one of the greatest pieces of ensemble playing in the history of music.

  • best era in music history i think

  • Joe Henderson O.O

    Very nice tune!!! :)

  • This is a classic must have! Joe Henderson's solo is ridiculous along with the others. I find it interesting that this slow tempo slows down even more by the end. They were very relaxed. Wonder why! That really doesn't matter. This performance represents a great era in music history. Thanks for posting this

  • As much as a huge Grant Green fan I am, I think the most beautiful moment of this legendary take is Duke Pearson's block chords at the end of his solo. Out of this world.

  • ...as an 'homage' to my ol' Jazz DJ mentor, Carol Hardy; I continued using this as my radio shows' "bed" (background music between tunes) back in my college days at SUNY Buffalo. WBFO-FM 88.7

I swear that this had to be recorded in the wee small hours of the morning in Van Gelder's home-studio, ain't it !?!

  • ...excellent...timeless...so soulful it is almost painfully beautiful...in love with it forever...these are the best 15 minutes of my whole existence!...

  • I love this jam , it's long and deep .

  • One of my favorite artists, timeless, thank you for posting.

  • sorprendida con OORT y Grand Green : * )

  • My sister Geogia went to John Muir High School in Pasadena with Bobbie Hutcherson, Lewis Large and someone else. Bobbie's axe was the most unique. I am so glad to know that he became fantastic. Pasadena, CA aka Pasadena, Mississippi was incredible for its time!

  • As smooth and mellow as Grant's guitar is Joe Henderson Solo is absolutely awesome.

  • Turned the lights off... now only my screen projects a weak and calming light. Lighted a cigarette and watched the smoke slowly disappear. Perfect feeling ...

  • Can anyone recommend me some more slow/smooth/relaxing jazz like this?

    Thanks for uploading :)

  • @807D14M0ND5 Don't know if you're still looking. I'm not an expert, just a fan, but I would recommend Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderley, the version of Autumn Leaves is goosebump city, also Miles Davis Kind of Blue, I think you have to own this album by law, I'd check out the the tracks, Blue in Green and Flamenco Sketches (both I'm sure you can check out here on the tube). Also, Hank Mobley, I Should Care, Coltrane's Sentimental Mood. Not the deepest suggestions, but hope that helps.

  • No haste...just taste!
