1. The UN does not rule over any other Country, it doesnt have the power to do so, and it should not. What I meant was I dont think they should be making rules for other countries. Leave that to that Country's government.

I would rather see the nations of the world come together to solve global problems than see one, two or three nations act as bullies for all. I agree though that the UN simply doesn't work as intended.
I never said that the Sphere of Influence plan would work in todays world, I just think it might have been better if we followed that plan after WWII. I think today nations should just take care of their own problems. If they need help or want to take care of a "world problem" then they should meet with fellow nations and forge some kind of deal. The UN has too much bureaucracy to solve anything.
The original concept of the UN was simple, and I think that the organization can be reduced to reflect the purpose and vision of oversight. But in order for it to be viable, it must have the power to penalize ALL nations who defy it.
We cant allow nations to just "take care" of their own problems. There has to be world oversight in order to keep nations from waging war just because they feel like it. Leaders who lie to the UN should face execution. PERIOD.
A single central governmental authority with that kind of power, it would only be a matter of time before National governments became irrelevant or were dissolved. If history has taught us anything its that humans dont handle power well and so it makes little sense to concentrate that much power in a single place. I think nations should take care of their own problems because they understand their problems better than any outsider ever could. The law of superpowers works naturally.
I think you're missing my point. The UN's responsibility is to reign in nations who violate international law - which frankly is a necessity if we are to stop powerful rogue nations from simply taking over the entire planet simply because they have more nukes than everyone else. This is why countries like China and even the US are seen as threats by the rest of the world. Is the UN effective today? No. I think our involvement in the Middle East is proof of that.
You are contradicting yourself. No single nation can take over the planet as long as there is any other nation with nukes. They may have more but with nukes its not about who has more, its about who has enough. The example you used here is that nations like the US and China have conflicting interest and keep the other in check due to the deterrent neither wants to fight the other directly. The only function the UN could possibly serve is to provide a forum for discussing international disputes.

The only body that can rule something unconstitutional is the American Judiciary, to date no court has ruled the 16th Amendment unconstitutional, especially considering the fact that the 16th Amendment is PART of the the Constitution itself.

I dont like the idea of any government body other than the United States Government making laws for the United States. I am also opposed to the UN. It should be dissolved or at least relegated to a purely charitable or humanitarian role. Governments are all corrupt so what is the sense in having two governments rule over you when only one is required.

2. Don't you think that there is need for some sort of global oversight over all nations in order to thwart overtly hostile nations from becoming too powerfull?

1. The UN does not rule over any other Country, it doesnt have the power to do so, and it should not. What I meant was I dont think they should be making rules for other countries. Leave that to that Country's government.
2. All governments are corrupt including an international governmental body. Why have a corrupt body have oversight over other corrupt bodies? I agree with Churchill's post WWII plan about spheres of influence for the most part.

The sphere of influence concept is pretty imperialistic, don't you think? It's not like countries falling under the influence of another simply because it is a world power can ever attain true sovereignty. If you look at the EU, one could easily draw a parallel to this, don't you think?
I would rather see the nations of the world come together to solve global problems than see one, two or three nations act as bullies for all. I agree though that the UN simply doesn't work as intended.

I never said that the Sphere of Influence plan would work in todays world, I just think it might have been better if we followed that plan after WWII. I think today nations should just take care of their own problems. If they need help or want to take care of a "world problem" then they should meet with fellow nations and forge some kind of deal. The UN has too much bureaucracy to solve anything.

The original concept of the UN was simple, and I think that the organization can be reduced to reflect the purpose and vision of oversight. But in order for it to be viable, it must have the power to penalize ALL nations who defy it.
We cant allow nations to just "take care" of their own problems. There has to be world oversight in order to keep nations from waging war just because they feel like it. Leaders who lie to the UN should face execution. PERIOD.

A single central governmental authority with that kind of power, it would only be a matter of time before National governments became irrelevant or were dissolved. If history has taught us anything its that humans dont handle power well and so it makes little sense to concentrate that much power in a single place. I think nations should take care of their own problems because they understand their problems better than any outsider ever could. The law of superpowers works naturally.

I think you're missing my point. The UN's responsibility is to reign in nations who violate international law - which frankly is a necessity if we are to stop powerful rogue nations from simply taking over the entire planet simply because they have more nukes than everyone else. This is why countries like China and even the US are seen as threats by the rest of the world. Is the UN effective today? No. I think our involvement in the Middle East is proof of that.

You are contradicting yourself. No single nation can take over the planet as long as there is any other nation with nukes. They may have more but with nukes its not about who has more, its about who has enough. The example you used here is that nations like the US and China have conflicting interest and keep the other in check due to the deterrent neither wants to fight the other directly. The only function the UN could possibly serve is to provide a forum for discussing international disputes.

16th Amendment was a product of the progressive movement giving Congress the ability to tax income.
We are still in Iraq because if we were to leave right now it would make everything worse in the long run. We can argue all day whether it was a mistake to go or not but the fact is we are there now so the least we can do is give the Iraqis the best possible chance to have a working Democracy and somewhat stable country (by Middle Eastern standards) before we leave.

I repeat that the only body capable of declaring anything unconstitutional is the United States Judiciary and they have not declared the 16th Amendment (which is technically part of the Constitution itself) to be unconstitutional and thus it remains constitutional.

The only body that can rule something unconstitutional is the American Judiciary, to date no court has ruled the 16th Amendment unconstitutional, especially considering the fact that the 16th Amendment is PART of the the Constitution itself.

The American Judiciary has absolutely nothing to do with delegates so do not confuse the issue. I would imagine we do agree on delegates to some extent.

The CFR is only one of many interest groups that influence politicians but when push comes to shove any politician has and will go against the CFR if they need to in order to stay in office.

Politics is corrupt, trying to reform it is like trying to reform war; it can not be done. Of course unlike war we should try to reform politics regardless. There is a certain level of corruption which will be unavoidable since all politicians are corrupt by the mere involvement in politics but that is aside the point.
Too many powerful interest groups have such different and conflicting agendas that the idea they are owned by a single body or group of bodies is insane, or the owner is insane.

Corporations are looking for a profit, Interest Groups usually do not make a profit. Do corporations donate to interest groups? Yes? Do they influence them? Probably? Do they control them? No.

Indeed. For example if someone is going to a restaurant and is deciding what to order. If I were to recommend a certain item to them then I would be influencing their decision. They are more likely to order the item since they cannot decide on what to order themselves but they are not FORCED to order it. The burden of choice still lies entirely with them. This in a nutshell is the fine difference between influence and control.

I took the liberty of looking up some of those and they are all National Security and anti-terrorism related bills. The same kind that, while controversial, deserve a good deal of the credit along with the President for preventing another 9-11 style attack. Al Qaeda has been unable to attack the US Mainland since 2001 and they HAVE tried.

On certain issues such as immigration, the environment, and campaign finance, McCain is a liberal. On other social issues such as abortion, the death penalty, spending, and gay marriage, McCain is generally Conservative. I dont see what you guys are whining about. McCain is liberal on certain issues and Conservative on others, in other words he is like most Americans, a Moderate. No contradiction there.
Also Dems tend to favor a political culture that sees voting as a civic duty and they almost always have higher turnouts outside of a General Election. Republicans are made up mostly of Conservatives and Conservatives see government as being corrupt and so most of us dont get involved in politics, but we do go out and vote in the General election.
