  • haha nice job! do you think you could upload the original green screen footage or tell me a link to where i can find it b/c ive been looking everywhere and i rele want to try my own...

    nice job once again!

  • nice

  • Why is it that he fights Jon Stewart for the first 3 seconds and then just looks like starwars kid for the next 37?

  • because he can

  • Because this was my first after effects project, and I didn't fully understand key frames. I rushed it over a weekend doing the 4 point mask method, it takes too long and sometimes it doesn't look right. And for some reason I decided to use the entire footage, I should have made it shorter.

  • so here is what i got. I got the video part perfect. (Have a hard time with obscure layers but i can figure that out later) the big thing now is sound effects. I cant figure them out. where do i get the sounds for the lightsabers? and where do i save them and stuff? thanks!

  • theforce(.)net/fanfilms/postproduction/soundfx/index(.)asp

This is where I got mine, they also have more tutorials.

They don't have to be in any special place, just import them into your comp.

  • how exactly do i get the sound effects in the video? cause for some reason when i make movie the sound that was on the video before i imported it into After effects is gone. and i cant figure out how to get the sound effects into the video that i want to put in there such as lightsaber sounds and stuff. do i have to make a new solid again? or how does that work.

  • In the comp window to on the left side of the view screen. Right Click > Import > File. Browse for sound file and hit ok. Drag sound down into timeline. I made a video response, just need a little more to finish it.

  • thanks! ill wait for that video response to show up. im still kinda confused lol

  • It is up now, I might remake it so the quality is better.

  • I got Adobe After Effects 7. where do i extract the lightsaber effects that i got from videocopilot . net? anyhelp?

  • They need to go into \Program Files\Adobe\After Effects 7.0\Support Files\Presets\

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

  • hey thanks man! i have mainly just been doing pictures. I cant see to get the roto thing to work. I get the saber up and everything, but then i hit pg down for my next frame and move it again to ajust but then cant figure out how to preview video lol

  • Did you make a new Solid and drag the saber preset onto it? Use space bar to preview video, first pass renders, second pass plays real time.

  • nice work man. Do you knw of any other programs like AE that are sweet but dont cost 600 bucks?

  • Hey, that looked good. I'm just starting to get used to AE, having spent most of my time in PS. About the sounds, they're great, man. Concerning the visuals, I think you definitely should have added a bit more glow to the mask. There also were a few parts where the rotoscoping wasn't too smooth; instances where the guy is moving the saber minutely are the ones where you overused the swooping effect.

  • (...)

Oh, and I must say that the keying was very nice. In fact, I didn't realize it was greenscreen until I actually read the full description. It was that good lol :-)

  • I used the Keylight plugin, and color keying tutorial from Videocopilot net.

  • Thank you, I appreciate your comment. I also have spent much more time in PS than AE. But AE is so amazing, like PS on steroids. Your right, I used a tutorial I found about creating a solid and animating it across the time line. I spent the better part of a weekend working on it, trying to rush for the deadline for the contest. I didn't make it in time, and I still wasn't fully pleased with the final product.

  • I TOTALLY LOVE THAT SITE!!!

wow, that's scary. But, yeah, I've been considering buying the DVD's, but they seem expensive

  • We are filming a commercial for work, so my work bought them. I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing. You can see the quality of his free tutorials. Serious FX DVD has 'teleporter', 'greenscreen driving car', and 'gun muzzle flash'. I thought these tutorials would justify the cost for me. As for Action Movie Essentials, you get 60 pre-keyed effects for a dollar each. I am very impressed with the quality of his products, that I would have saved to buy them, if my company didn't.

  • iz okay, I guess

what program. The rotoscoping needs work, the sounds actually aren't that bad and he needs to be doing more thing

  • This was my first attempt at roto. I used After Effects 6, I was using the mask method. There is actually a new plugin for AE I plan on using for my future projects.

I know what your saying, I spent a whole weekend just doing roto, that I couldn't think of what else I should add. Still learning more about AE, it is such an amazing program.

  • Trust me, I know, I recently acquired 6.5 for only $100 on eBay, and I'm lovin' it.

Before that I had to roto literally frame by frame in photoshop, that was hell

  • I attempted to do it in photoshop before, but never finished it, my source footage was hard to follow. You should check out some of the tutorials over at videocopilot . net. Andrew Kramer has made a nice lightsaber preset.
