  • Suddenly when Paul Weller opens his mouth Bono's voice comes out...

I do love Paul though, he should of got his own line to sing :(

  • This song came out just 2 days before my birth, WHY THEY COULDN'T WAIT JUST FOR 2 DAYS?!?!

Greetings from the Czech Republic ♥

  • as Boy George and Jon Moss have looked through a 1:29 1:30 they look and not long after George looked down ... What atmosphere!

  • bastard

  • pause and press 1

  • Why is Midge Ure, THE GUY WHO WROTE THE SONG, stuck in the back??? And why isn't he standing with his Ultravox mates? Glad they're here, was surprised they weren't asked to participate in the original video.

  • @LadyMatika Well, they are singing a song about helping people who are dying of starvation. It wouldn't really have been appropriate to be all happy and dancing around and laughing.

  • THEY ARE LYP SYNCHING

  • I never even heard that they did this! Damn. Thanx for sharing this. 26 years later and I am just seeing it. The US doesn't get crap. Around here we all had to suffer through We Are the World. :-/

  • Did Nick Rhodes (from Duran Duran) appear in this video?

    I can't see him. :-(

  • @MasaoKun1984 Yes, you can see him at 2:44, standing behind Bob Geldof with Andy Taylor. You can see John Taylor at around 2:13 too, at the very back, if you look closely. No clue why he's at the back with the rest of the Duranies at the front, but it's JOHN, so who knows :)

  • where's phil collins?????? maybe because of his height i do not see him....

  • @freiheitsalv 38 seconds

  • Paul Young

    Boy George

    George Michael

    Simon Lebon

    Sting

    Tony Hadley

    Bono

    Paul Weller

  • Thanks for posting,I had never seen this.MTV would sometimes show some of the Top of the pops but not all of them.I thought it was funny to see Sting read the lyrics,I guess he wanted to pretend they were signing live.

  • How awkward the way the wrong artists are singing each others parts! Still, endearing though! Great video never knew it existed.

  • Wham! Got stuck in traffic and couldn't make it.

  • mrmatty80 the guy ya saw dancein! was the lead singer to frankie goes to hollywood!! and yes he looks like freddy & he died of aids as well!! RIP

  • Ahh they got rick and francis Hiding away near the back!:O not fair!

  • What, Bono and George Michael were too busy to show up to lip sync? Best Xmas song ever BTW.

  • Was that Freddie from "Queen" dancing towards the end of the video with that guy? Was it his partner? Its ashame we lost Freddie to AIDS! :( Huge loss for the music industry.

  • No not at all, just some guy with a mustache, other than that it look nothing like him and isnt him.

  • no, its holly johnson and Paul Rutherford from frankie goes to hollywood

  • 'Marilyn' (male).

  • Love the part at 2:23! HAHAHA

  • This is ABSOLUTLY AMAZING! This has always been my favorite Christmas song! I wish I had been older back in 1984 (I was only 4 years old back then). 25 years later and its still awesome! Thanks for posting it! :)

  • Simon Le Bon rules !!!!!!!!!!

Nice see Nick Rhodes and Andy Taylor ...

  • Marilyn is amazing here!!!!!!so ...He always amazing....but here ..OMG!!♥

These singers the best they are real singers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 80' forever!!!!!

  • Paul Weller's haircut is great !

  • Why on earth the "Embedding is disabled by request" ????

    I cant dowload the video!!

  • 2'58 Dave Hill!!

He wasn't even on the recording...unfortunately.

  • 2:39 was totally inappropriate and unnecessary

  • randomlylyrical- why do you complain about Maz? What was so wrong? Or do you just hate anyone who is dofferent?

  • I would hate to be told to lip synch to my own song...ugh... poor guys

  • They are all lip syncing, Simon does not have a mic. LOL ~sigh~ 26 years ago!!!! I was 14...and still in love with Duran LOLOL I semi remember this Christmas show, I don't remember Bono or U2 being there. I think the camera just kind of spanned around to fill in gaps, everyone there was singing along. So cool to see it again!!! Boy George was a mess! LOL

  • Nup, U2 definitely not there and it looked ridiculous having Weller mime the defining line of the whole damn song.

    TOTP... hilarious as always

  • The version of original Bandaid (1984) was the perfect one!!!And all of the pop stars' voices were perfect!!!Finally I can see the whole Culture Club here(not just only BG & JM) THANKS FOR SHARING~

  • Such a classic song now....Everybody looks like they are enjoying themselves. Thanks for the memories.

  • c'mon...lets not critisize the era that it was! And Simon is the greatest.....they were all hung over or off there nut at the time..I was only 14 and naive at the time and idolised them all! I loved this more than the stupid American one!

  • Paul Weller lip syncing Bonos vocals .............lol

  • weller is god thou

  • That was funny. Ånd Sting using a lyric sheet while doing George Michael's vocals.

  • Marilyn ...Ugh!

  • Aw i love paul weller! this is hilarious!

  • nice playback

  • I'd forgotten how bad this is, I used to have this on a tape before me mum wiped it, Love the way the camera goes away from anyones face on the George Michael bit,Sting forgets that he doesn't sing with Simon Le bon until a line later,Paul Weller looks embarrassed by what he's been asked to do and finally Geldof,Le Bon,Paul Young and Weller sing Let them know it's christmas time too early. I was only 4 at the time but I'd sussed it out even then

  • Eightiiiiiiiiiiiiis!

  • At the time I remember thinking it was a rubbish song (despite the worthy cause), but listening to it again, it isn't bad at all.

  • I think the program director was totally lost. From 00:40 vocals by George Michael were covered by general panshots (GM was boycotting TOTP), cut to Sting lipsyncing Simon Le Bon's original vocals, cam back to Le Bon then back to Sting then Tony Hadley... whatever.

  • Go Nik Kershaw!

    At 2:34!

    Best 80s pop artist!

  • Bono looks so young in this video.

  • He wasn't there.

  • haha its paul weller that

  • who is at 2:39? :):)

  • He was Marylin. An English pop singer during the 80's.

  • weller hair looks shite hahahah

  • haha, u are cool! But where is Bono? hehe

  • he didnt make it, so like weller had to do his bit

  • haha this still makes me laugh, i was in the line up standing next to banarama, im the girl in the blue shirt and red waistcoat, i was an audience member lucky enough to be standing on the stage, this made my family laugh when they watched it on xmas day

  • @susanpaulfinucane Sorry, but Boy George be the one crackin me up here!!! :D

  • @greyc23 LOL I know right, he's standing out, literally LOL he's so original, so cute :"D

  • Feed The World!

  • This kicks ass over the one that the Americans tried to copy, much more gritty artistic. I can't even remember the name of of American one, Let it Be (I think!)

  • It was something more pretentious, "we are the world"

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • Haha, I love Paul Weller. He should have been given a line of his own!

  • @cryingshame06 I think the way they seemed to force him to sing Bono's piece makes up for it really haha

  • agadoo!

  • exatly weres bono??????

  • probably had tour commitments

  • Wheres Bono?

  • notice how boy george's mike changes~!

  • LOL - Weller on Bonos line

  • I love George's Karma Chameleon/Medal Song look!

    thanks for posting!

    ROFL Marilyns there too!

  • Why in the blue hell are they lip syncing to the album cut? You "hear" Bono and George Michael, but the other participants are mouthing their lines. Ah well, I guess it was meant to publicize the single for the '84 holiday season. But still, I'd hardly call this a live performance.

  • all artists lip synch on TOTP

  • Ok, I wasn't aware of that. Being from Canada, I've never seen the program. Actually, I just learned this past November that everyone lip-synched during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York. I guess it's one way to make sure every note is pitch-perfect. Ah well.

  • Yeah.... thats true!!!

  • Bono probably had tour commitments however, George Michael refused to do Totp after a while. You'll never find any vids off him on there as of 1984ish I think so maybe he was already boycotting it....

  • i dont hear bono....

  • You're being a bit generalist. Jody Watley did Band Aid, and look at the slew of black artists that did We Are the World.

  • yeah..kool & the gang was also there!

  • god if anything is bullshit its you shwantz2...dude, have you seen who actually does it? not to mention the only one to officaly(don't ever count the tv allstars) lyrics to the song was Dizzie Rascal in the 2004 band aid 20, he was black

  • Tehe! It's nice that they brought on all of Culture Club when you George and Jon appeared to the the only ones at the recording.

  • You can't mess with perfection, and this group is perfection! With Paul, you have perfection!

  • Slade should have been included on the recording of this song....they eventually recorded their own version, which is bloody good!:-)

  • Thank God Slade didn't get invited to sing on this song; the garbage other acts didn't deserve to be on the same recording as them.

  • Bono and George Michael must have bopped down the pub for a quick nip o'the sauce... Happy Christmas!

  • BEUTIFALLLL MAGIC JUST MAGIC!!

  • Great Video. I Agree, many 80's fans should watch this video specially U2 fans even though Bono is missing.

  • They must have needed a mountain load of coke to keep this lot happy!Wonder how sting felt having to stand next to Slade? and try to look like he was saving the world.Still even if half of them couldn't find Africa on a map -it helped and made people more aware.

  • I'm pretty sure Noddy could outsing Sting anyways.

  • yes, definitely!add more tags and...thanks for posting, it's awesome!

  • More fans of 80's music need to know about this video on youtube!!!
