In the song Yours Truly he is thinking back to the girlfriend he left behind in the past and comparing her to his new android 'companion'. In a 1981 US radio interview with Jim Lad, Jeff Lynne said "... yes it's just a bit of fun, he's obviously missing his real girlfriend so this one will do for now, if he can just find where to... put it !!"

One thing I like about ELO songs is Jeff Lynne's sense of fun. For example the entrance lobby of the studio in Germany where the album was recorded had a space-invaders type game that he, Bev and Richard would often play while taking a break. Jeff liked the futuristic noise the game made and decided to use a clip in one of the songs on the album. If you listen to 'Yours Truly' at 0:11 to 0:16 you can hear the sound the video game made.

Have to admit - as a 13 year old, taking road trips with the parents, this album made a huge impact. With the advent of down-loadable tracks and the ability to skip directly to a song, I doubt we will ever see this type of concept album again.... Time, as much as any of their albums, had a very distinct 'feel' to it. Good stuff!

This album was interesting, because it arrived at the very time that so-called synth-pop bands were gaining attention. ELO were no strangers to electronics, but used them here in a different way thern they had previously. No doubt this song, in particular, has that influence, yet is very much old school ELO at the same time. And yes, you can hear the Buggles in this song, but, maybe you can here ELO in the Buggles. Umm.....

Ahh, I remember listening to this as a kid (mind you, ELO was around for a while then...) but this still brings back fond memories. I love the concept of love in this song. You can almost relate it to how much love has changed today.....ELO's concept has come true in the future.
