Why Oh Why would anyone want to listen to a cover of a masterpiece...covers most often suck and should be illegal...except in the rare instance when the cover is better than the original...but we might just as well wait for an eclipse than see that happen.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS! I've been searching for this for god knows how long and here it is! Ever since listening to this as a child, it's been stuck in my head. Thanks dad ;)
@LGTheOneFreeMan Someone made a very good anime to go with this, you can find it on youtube if you search yours truly, however I don't want to advertise another video on someone else's so I won't give the address.
Thank you MACGYVERYKICKYOURASS for posting this in awesome quality!
"...I met someone who looks a lot like you, she does the things you do, but she is an IBM." As prescient as Jeff Lynne was (Hover Cars!) he still couldn't predict the rise of MS-DOS.
the guy that said there are better albums than this, is just wrong, every single song on this album is awesome, most albums have a few songs, but very few rock on every song, Pink FLoyd has two, Dark side of the Moon, Wish you were here, Jane Child, Steely Dan, Brothers in Arms... can't think of many others...
@wildwoman222 Every ELO album/cd is full of great songs...I personally cannot think of a song on any of their albums that is not worth listening to....this is one of their best albums along with Out of the Blue....I especially like the 4 songs on it that make up "Concerto for a Rainy Day" "Standing in the Rain" is awesome!!

I've been looking for this album for like ever! This is the only song I could remember the words to, but never could figure out wo sang it or what it was actually called. This is one of my all time favorite songs. So happy you downloaded this.
@SpiderLuigiMan But to him, it sounds like an orchestra. So, therefore, to him, it's crap. As I said, orchestral connections. Still, it's a great album to drive him out of the house for a few hours. As no1 said, no class. Pity, because he's a good drummer. Just a jerk.
@SpiderLuigiMan But to him, it sounds like an orchestra. So, therefore, to him, it's crap. As I said, orchestral connections. Still, it's a great album to drive him out of the house for a few hours. As no 1said, no class. Pity, because he's a good drummer. Just a jerk.
@immortalharneil The album is about a man who has travelled forward in time to the year 2095. In the song Yours Truly he is thinking back to the girlfriend he left behind in the past and comparing her to his new android 'companion'. In a 1981 US radio interview with Jim Lad, Jeff Lynne said "... yes it's just a bit of fun, he's obviously missing his real girlfriend so this one will do for now, if he can just find where to... put it !!"
One thing I like about ELO songs is Jeff Lynne's sense of fun. For example the entrance lobby of the studio in Germany where the album was recorded had a space-invaders type game that he, Bev and Richard would often play while taking a break. Jeff liked the futuristic noise the game made and decided to use a clip in one of the songs on the album. If you listen to 'Yours Truly' at 0:11 to 0:16 you can hear the sound the video game made.
Have to admit - as a 13 year old, taking road trips with the parents, this album made a huge impact. With the advent of down-loadable tracks and the ability to skip directly to a song, I doubt we will ever see this type of concept album again.... Time, as much as any of their albums, had a very distinct 'feel' to it. Good stuff!
This album was interesting, because it arrived at the very time that so-called synth-pop bands were gaining attention. ELO were no strangers to electronics, but used them here in a different way thern they had previously. No doubt this song, in particular, has that influence, yet is very much old school ELO at the same time. And yes, you can hear the Buggles in this song, but, maybe you can here ELO in the Buggles. Umm.....
One of the greatest albums made, themed to 'time travel', each song, a classic, and bought back in 1981 by me at the cost of £3.99 down Walthamstow market, London, E16. Only Discovery, Out of The Blue and A New World Record beat this to the Number 1 slot...30 years on Jeff and it still sounds futuristic
Ahh, I remember listening to this as a kid (mind you, ELO was around for a while then...) but this still brings back fond memories. I love the concept of love in this song. You can almost relate it to how much love has changed today.....ELO's concept has come true in the future.
They should have lifted this song off the album as a single, great number. The album Time was a fine concept album of sorts and way ahead of it's time (no pun intended). Bought the remaster off Play a while back for £2.99, bargain or what!!!
@wildwoman222 "Is it what you REALLY want?" LOL! I agree....this is a great album/cd....I am a HUGE ELO fan....have all their music in one format or another....album/cd and yes even a couple of 8-tracks!
The wife of Jeff Lynne Sandi those days is credited in this song. The girl´s voice in the end of the song said the original vinyl sleeve. "Is that what you want ? ".
Thumbs up if your still listening to this in 2137!
