HAHA shooting some kids in the backyard at night!! omg funny stuff. I love your videos dude. Your like the austin powers mojo of photography.. Dont know if that made any sense
or put you camera on automatich, and let it think for you. when i have to make a picure with in 2sec of seeing with my eyes, i dont have to time to change everything lolz
Mark, I started taking my photography seriously about 5 months ago and seriously thought about joining an online school like New York Institute of Photography but I downloaded their course info and what you don't teach I can find out there on the internet and have pretty much worked my way through the whole professional course. I just wanted to personally thank you for all the time you spend putting together these awesome informative videos! Kepp up the awesome work! You are truly a gift!
Thank you, Mark. I'm a new DSLR user and this information is invaluable. I really appreciate the time and professionalism you put into these videos. Please continue to create them!
@lucasgaroto That or a tripod would help with camera shake. That's great for still subjects in low light. However, with moving subjects, it's not as helpful. You still need that fast shutter speed. (Similar with Image Stabilization/Vibration Reduction). So although you can shoot with longer shutter speeds in low light for still subjects, it does not help freeze motion any better, so it will not create any difference with or without it.
ohh no wheres no. 48, just spent 2 days watching all 47 and there isn't another a click away....
thanks for this living photographic book. looking forward to the advanced stuff. - any chance adorama could also sell some budget stuff? or even for you to do some real world(non-pixel-peeping) gear comparisons eg 70-200's would be useful
Thank you Mark. I have passed this video to many of my less experienced friends/shooters that ask me these questions at meetups all the time. As usual you deliver and clear, accurate, and concise lesson. Thank you.
I've been watching your videos for some time now, your help is always very clear, but this video takes the cake. I think that it is a perfect method for helping the under-experienced put 2 and 2 together. Thanks and keep up the good work!
In scenario 2 you are using a flash, you can use a flash to freeze motion. The shutterspeed probably won't have much influence on motion. It's because flash duration is very short in comparison to shutterspeed. The amount of light emited by the flash and aperature does make thew picture not the shutterspeed
hey mark happy new year to you and your family ! I just need your advise, I am planning to buy the lense Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L non IS,is it really a big deal having no IS in my lense?Coz the one with IS is just too expensive and I don`t have enough money for it :(( please give me some advise..thanks ! More power !
@h0ns0y if you're familiar with what IS does then you just think when you're gonna use your lens. IS can let you handhold it at about 1/30 second to get sharp photos, that is when there is not enough light. But without IS or for sports you need shutter speeds at or above 1/250 second so that's 3 stops difference. if you have the cash and can justify it, then get IS. simple.
If you're planning to use a tripod or whatever near you to hold the camera still at 200, IS won't help much as you're not holding it by hand (where even "mini shakes" will be multiplied by the zoom factor).
You might still consider the location you'll be shooting from though; IS might be handy if you're on a boat (even docked), in a air balloon, or even near a railway (underground, train, ..) where shaking can happen even if you don't feel it.

Hi Mark,
I'd like to know how much can a shoulder stabilizer (like stedi-stock, at adorama) help us in this worst case scenario...
I mean, if the rule of thumb says that 1/60s is the slowest speed when hand-helding the camera, how slow can we go with a brace/shoulder stabilizer.
thanks!
