  • Finally... I see the (2) not using those peices of shit R142s! They should have put R142As on the (5) as well (I have ridden several R142A (5) trains in the past during a G.O.).

Btw, one quick question: Which line was this using cars from: (4) or (6)?

  • @R42Vtrain1029 Well both 2 and 5 lines share the same yard so if one changes fleet, the other must as well. with the R142As slated to go to the 7, r142as are not going to go to the 2/5.

it was a set from the 6 train

  • is this a sakar 32480 camera? if it is I have one too and it sucks. tho nice sound!

  • i cant even see a thing

  • I only had a camera that is better taking pics than vids. the point is the sound of the train's propulsion.

  • I can't see ish.

  • Acually, they're planning to put the R188s on the (7) train along with converted R142s. And MAYBE put some R62As on the (6) train. My suggestion is that they should put the remaining R142As on the (2)/(5) trains...

  • where did you hear about that? Really R142's? Well obviously most of it would have to come from the 2/5 as the 4 doesn't have enough to give to the 7. And yeah the 2/5 will have to have R142A's to replace the gap left from the R142's sent out. The 6 does not really need the R142's out of the 2/5/6 lines.

The 4 probably should be left as a majority of R142/A's as is now. The R62A's would be fine on the 6 as they have those exp/lcl LED signs.

  • I meant that the (7) line will get mostly be R188s and a few converted R142s. And yes...

  • ok, but who/what's your source though? I thought it was pretty much set being a strait up R142A for R62A swap with R188's being the '11th car' per train.

  • also i'm not saying this is set in stone, but the idea of the R142's from the 2/5 is something that kinda suprises me.

  • My source is not very reliable, lol, it's wikipedia. The last part was just my suggestion about the R142As being on the 2 and 5. And I don't know which R142s would be converted. Sorry if my information is false, btw.

  • Now that makes a big difference. I never trust wiki for info. it's good for glancing at, but not for info.

Granted I don't know which R142 will be converted either, but i still think it's going to be the 6's R142A's so that it involves the fewest amount of trains to be swapped as possible. Not to mention how many of those strip maps you'd have to replace. So taking the R142A's from the 6 is more direct and better since the 2/5 should be an all R142 fleet.

  • Yeah, and the R142 and R142As are my favorite subway cars. But I want them both to be on the (5), oh well, lol

  • i like the R142A's, but i think it's best the 2/5 stays as one fleet. at least the 4 has a mix of both.

  • Hm, I guess that's good enough.

  • yeah

    you're right

i like the R142A's the most, and its good that the 4 has a mix

  • I'm not sure how different in parts the R142 vs R142A's are.

  • yes thats true!

  • you had to real lucky to catch this on the 2 because you dont even 142A's on the 2. But i did catch some 142A's on the 5 not too long ago. Nice Vid.

  • thanks, yep i was lucky, I just got off another train and saw this at the Flatbush av station just about to leave. i took it up and got off a church av to take some pics. I think it was on the 2 because they were fixing some R142 sets so the 2 had to borrow an R142A from the 6.

I think the 5 had a GO where it needed an R142A set. It had something to do with the 5 ending at 149th on the 4 line or something.

  • any1 agree wit me saying that the 2,5 should get some R142A's

  • no need to plus the R142A's will probably be moved to the 7 eventually - *my speculation of course

  • They Will. The (7) Will Get R142s From The (6) And the (6) Will get the R62As From the (7).

  • Yup, that's what I believe will happen. Makes sense too since the R62A's on the 7 have the led signs so there's no need for the local/express confusion on the 6 when the R62A's returns.

  • it was a weekend construction that closed the 7th Av tunnel to Brooklyn. the 2 and 5 were both using the loop. The 4 was the only train running to Brooklyn. And i thought you were such a know it all, lol.

  • I think I've gotten on two R142A's on the 2 line. One being when the 2 went via the loop to return nb on Bowling green on the Lexington line. And this one from Flatbush av to Church Av.

  • since when? I thought by now all the R142's were repaired by now.

Well of course the R142A's are there as they are on loan from the 4/6 lines.

  • 6 train strip map. R142A's don't have 2/5's on them.

  • 1] the camera i had was not designed for video taking, if it was hq, it would've only been 13sec. - Be happy you get something. The announcements and acceleration should be proof enough

2] i'll remember that next time...

  • boy you must be lucky to get this because its ultra rare to see a R142A on the 2 or the 5.

  • oh yep, it was sitting at Flatbush av just as i got off a 5 train. i heard of R142A's running on the 2 when some R142's were being 'repaired' for something. so i was lucky to find this.

  • by the way do you know when the R142 or R142A is going to be placed on the & because I heard that once they fully make the line CBTC compatible, there going to get it.

  • sorry i had & but i meant the 7.

  • oh ok, i dunno when they are going to swap cars. for now it's just in the works or rumors.

  • About 3-4 sets of R142A rarely run on the 2, and 1 set of R142A's rarely run on the 5.

    1 set = 10 cars

  • Now? Unless there's something wrong w/the R142's where they are being 'repaired' then I don't believe there are any R142A's [kawasaki ones] on the 2/5 lines. And I ride the 2 for a good amount of time.

  • cool

  • This is probably the only series that I would prefer to ride on the 2 line.

  • sadly it'll never happen as there probably aren't enough R142A's to cover both the 2 and 5 lines.

  • What's the main difference between these type of train and the Alstrom Metropolis? Capacity?

  • Alstrom? As in the R160A? That's a seperate issue, but basically Kawasaki's R142A as in this vid is basically the same as Bombardier's R142 except for the propulsion system, otherwise no main differences.

  • Sorry I miss typed, is Alstom Metropolis. But anyways, thanks.

  • I also notice a couple of cosmetic differences between the two and the trucks..

  • The main differences is the sounds outside of the train.

  • How did you get the accelerating and decelerating sounds so well? I can't even get those sounds on the inside of an R142a with my relatively high quality MP3 player's voice recorder.

  • My camera was an F707 today outdated, but still takes pretty good audio. Wow glad you liked it.

  • You need a Sony HiMD Recorder. You will get such go0d quality, that it sounds like you in the train @ home. Thats what I use to record my MP3's on the R142s.
