From the late 80s & throughout the 90s, Shanice WAS a commercial R&B artist & even had two crossover Pop Hits but her talent wasn't enough to get her as much attention as the Madonnas or the Mariahs because she stuck with mainly R&B & R&B artists didn't get a whole lot of attention unless had a lot of crossover hits. Shanice was NEVER desperate trade her talent for fame so she left the mainstream world by 2000.

She can sing from very soft whispery to high Patti-like belts with great power, which is why she can effortlessly pull off a Whitney song, but I doubt very much Whitney can take on ANY random Shanice. Shanice has great vibrato without having to wobble her mouth like Whitney. In fact as reviewer pointed out, Shanice uses restraint vibrato, which is not in your face because it's not wobbly.
@Kumtekmeon I love Shanice but I have to tell her tone is awful sometimes when she goes high. That vibrato is very shaky in comparison to Whitney and with the upper belts. Whitney registers are more controlled and polished. Compare Shanice tone on Run To You to Whitney's enough said!

From the late 80s & throughout the 90s, Shanice WAS a commercial R&B artist & even had two crossover Pop Hits but her talent wasn't enough to get her as much attention as the Madonnas or the Mariahs because she stuck with mainly R&B & R&B artists didn't get a whole lot of attention unless had a lot of crossover hits. @afoonu Well, you don't sound like you do, because for you to say that Mariah who is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time has just a "nice" voice and is not as good as this girl makes you sound like you dont know anything about vocal technique and control. Mariah has a much wider vocal range than this girl, more control over her voice and has the ability to pretty much do whatever she wants with her voice while making it pleasent to the ear.

She can sing from very soft whispery to high Patti-like belts with great power, which is why she can effortlessly pull off a Whitney song, but I doubt very much Whitney can take on ANY random Shanice. Shanice has great vibrato without having to wobble her mouth like Whitney. In fact as reviewer pointed out, Shanice uses restraint vibrato, which is not in your face because it's not wobbly.

@Kumtekmeon I love Shanice but I have to tell her tone is awful sometimes when she goes high. That vibrato is very shaky in comparison to Whitney and with the upper belts. Whitney registers are more controlled and polished. Compare Shanice tone on Run To You to Whitney's enough said!

There is nothing Shaky about Shanice's vibrato, in fact a lot of time her haters said she doesn't use vibrato because as pointed out, hers are RESTRAINT vibratos. Shanice doesn't have to wobble her mouth to utilize vibrato, but Whitney relies heavily on that! Shanice's Run To You surpasses WH and in ACAPPELLA. WH can't do Turn Down The Lights because she's not flexible enough, as one pointed out, her singing is kinda preachy.

For example Whitney stumbled on Stephanie Mills classic 'Home' at age 19, while Shanice at age 8 did it with such conviction. WH strength lies in song structure as shown on her debut; she failed to bring life to weaker songs like Thinking About You, Someone For Me and Take Good Care of my Heart. No matter how weak the song, Shanice ripped it apart with her multi-layered voice.

Whitney had more vocal training since a very little child. Shanice whistles tones are good but forced, when Whitney went up there never was forced, nothing forced about her upper register. Whitney was a very high soprano as a young girl and had better power than Shanice.

Why the need to constantly compare Shanice when she has her own style and is a great and talented singer. If she wasn't, Patti Labelle wouldn't say Shanice should've been as big as Celine Dion, so it is rather sad that some try to discredit Shanice because she is not as popular like others. Shanice was very popular in the 90s and from what I see, she is poised to be even more popular this time around.

Shanice unlike MC is an on-the-spot singer. She doesn't need preparation and a backing vocal to pull off an acappella. So I don't know what range and talent you're talking about. As for success, Shanice is quite the success. She doesn't have to resort to any underhanded activity to stay in the spotlight, THAT speaks to confidence!

OK let's get real here. Little Shanice is OK at what she does but Mariah CERTAINLY is not "lesser in talent". Maybe Shanice shuld do some more preparation in order to match Mariah's wonderful TONE. Unlike MC Shanice is naturally praised for her voice, with MC you are simply blowing Tommy's trumpet.
