I have no comment on the computer generated insipid pop icons of today. I don't listen to it. I'd prefer to talk about Lene Lovitch. She was cutting edge, progressive, ethereal and way ahead of her time. She probably influenced my musical tastes more than anything. Up until the time I first heard Lucky Number I was resigned to listening to the same old AOR that had begun in the late "60s. Lene Lovich opened up a world of great music I had always been searching for.
Lovich was born Lili-Marlene Premilovich in Detroit, Michigan, 30 March 1949, to an English mother and a Serbian father. Raise your hand if you have fallen head over heels for her.
I love her a lot. This is one of her best songs. Flex & No Man's Land are her best albums. This album (Flex) was very emotional. It's good to listen to when you are sad. The 2 bands I usually go to for 'sad' music are Lene Lovich & nine inch nails... lol.
One of the best concerts I've seen in my long life was Lene Lovich in 1980 at UMass. Blew me away. No has better integrated Eastern European influences into western music, IMHO.
I would kill to be able to do that birdcall. This woman is also a perfect example of what Goth is and what it's about. Why can't there be artists like her today?
This September marks the 30th anniversary of when I bought my first Lene record. I have never lost my love and fascination for Lene and her work and it was this video being shown on a syndicated video show called "Rockworld' in the summer of 1980 that hooked me. Still as original and gothic as ever. Eat your heart out Lady Gaga!
@VIEWTUBE00000 WOW! "Rockworld" was once a show my older brother and I couldn't wait for each week!! I remember first being introduced to The Boomtown Rats, Gary Numan, Elvis Costello, Selector, Lene, Siouxie and the Banshees, etc from watching "Rockworld" back in 1979-1980.
Lady Gaga sucks as all the new music today does. The creativeness the ideas the musical talent is not the same as it used to be. Lady Gaga is not gothic, at best she is a pig. If all her fans had half a brain they would not listen to her.
Back when MTV started they actually used to play edgy stuff like this (basically played anything to fill the time exceoting Black artists for awhile).
I was both freaked out and attracted to this song, video & her.
Before WMSE, Milwaukee went on the air as a 1000 watt FM radio station, we were a campus only station in the basement of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Bookstore. Lene Lovich was one of our top airplay artists. She and others of this genre were so far ahead of their time.
Now this is what I call true art come to life. She's just so different and unique which is why I'm fond of her. I wish I heard of her sooner but now is better then never. There were so many unque artists back then compared to now (Don't think Lady Gaga is unique...). Still, awesome video and song. This is amazing.
Goddess have MERCY! I remember seeing this song after midnight on Don Kirshners Rock Concert on 1980 have never been the same again! Thank you for changing my life LENE!!!!
The words of this song are so sad, from the first to the last word... that doesn't mean I don' t like the song, it's quite the opposite, I LOVE IT, it's wonderful!!! :-)
Absolutely stunning single and video from the "Flex" lp. Lovich was a visionary, and dug her heels in when Stiff Records put a halt to the sessions for what was to be her third album. I call this artist interruptous. The lady was on a roll. They released an ep instead, showing the direction she had been taking. Excellent work, wish they had let her alone. Her 3rd lp proper, came years later, "No-Man's Land". Stiff really did a fine job of damaging her career. Damn! NEW cd is "Shadows & Dust".
Doesn't get much better than Lene Lovich singing "Bird Song." If you ever wondered what happened to Wednesday Addams, well, she grew up, hooked up with an Uncle Fester (somewhat) look-alike, and became a Brit pop star. Absolutely appropriate.

So glad to hear your friendly reply about Lene. I am so pleased to see that someone your age is a fan of music from my days. Unfortunately, you are right about your generation and it's music. Someday maybe things will change for the better. Boy, to be 16 again. That was about 25 years ago for me! Enjoy your youth and the great music of my youth!
lol, yeah, I trade cd's of post-punk stuff with my philosophy teacher. he knows lots of bands too. and you're right with those facts, the music from your youth is w
