  • I have no comment on the computer generated insipid pop icons of today. I don't listen to it. I'd prefer to talk about Lene Lovitch. She was cutting edge, progressive, ethereal and way ahead of her time. She probably influenced my musical tastes more than anything. Up until the time I first heard Lucky Number I was resigned to listening to the same old AOR that had begun in the late "60s. Lene Lovich opened up a world of great music I had always been searching for.

    oR

  • one of my favorite songs ever

  • l'abito da sposa e il trucco di Lene in questo video sono uguali a quello dell'attrice nel film dracula di Coppola; forse una coincidenza?

  • The song that brought John Lennon out of "retirement"!!

  • Lene was so under-rated and under-valued. This is a classic.

  • She is Hot!!!

  • wondrous!

  • somehow reminds me of klaus nomi

  • i love what she's wearing!! getting good ideas

  • "Goth" in its Finest Era!!

  • Lovich was born Lili-Marlene Premilovich in Detroit, Michigan, 30 March 1949, to an English mother and a Serbian father. Raise your hand if you have fallen head over heels for her.

  • ... love this one still today... saw her live way back in 1980 in Cologne, Germany... unforgettable!

  • why there's no sound on right channel?

  • great song by a great time....love it

  • more the fantastic..utterly high

  • Fantastic !!

  • wtf ... what is this, this is amazing! They played this on VH1 classics?

  • what a good song

  • my time my music i wish i could go back to that time

  • I love her a lot. This is one of her best songs. Flex & No Man's Land are her best albums. This album (Flex) was very emotional. It's good to listen to when you are sad. The 2 bands I usually go to for 'sad' music are Lene Lovich & nine inch nails... lol.

  • awesome

  • love lene way ahead of her time marilyn manson owes her big time

  • Still unique!

  • what crap

  • @Parkwoodparkenfarker If you don't like it why comment? Just move on.

  • A friend of mine, after hearing this song for the very first time, described her as an extreme Kate Bush. :)

  • maravillosa

  • Where is she these days?

  • BRILLIANT!!!!!

  • Lene Lovichs vocals were recorded for Hammer Films for the Bat Screams in the Soundtracks of the Movies

  • This song was the start of Gothic Rock!!!

  • @doughnazi What?

  • @lesterpiglet1 Yeah, maybe it was new wave with a twist! :)

  • She is so Beautiful!

  • Back to the eighties.

  • The 80s really were the golden age of music and music videos. Nothing around now to compare with this sort of thing.

  • Fabulous.

  • One of the best concerts I've seen in my long life was Lene Lovich in 1980 at UMass. Blew me away. No has better integrated Eastern European influences into western music, IMHO.

  • Lene -Pleaase come back with a new album in 2011

  • THE VERY BEST VIDEO OF THE 80'S FOR ME.

  • es una pena que esta cantante haya sido olvidada en la historia, vivía adelantada en el tiempo 30 años, la admiro forever

  • She is odd, but I l love it! And Les Chappell "the bald guitar guy" is ubercool, check out Lucky Number, they both so rock!

  • not being a big hit in no way changes the fact that this is one of her very best..she is beautiful on many levels.

  • This is a fantastic song - far better than Lucky Number and Say When - but radio didn't take to it, I guess that's why it wasn't a big hit.

  • Long live LENE ! ! !

  • @Kastiall Awesome! She is one of my favorites. You don't find many people as unique as her.

  • AYAYAYAY ---- she's GREAT!!!!!

  • Now she's an elder lady...but she is still amazing ;)

  • i love the "keyboard" solo - real cool :)

  • Famous is pushing it, brilliant yes.

  • I would kill to be able to do that birdcall. This woman is also a perfect example of what Goth is and what it's about. Why can't there be artists like her today?

  • I definetely was born on the wrong decade... She's so special!

  • I LOVE this woman! She is so awesome!!

  • Great concert in Portugal in 1980-cascais

  • I Love her

  • lovee this song!!!!

  • love...this song...great...but look at lene lovich left side ..at....3:15...i think he is dead...hehe...

  • she resembles lucy in bram stokers dracula movie

  • @DecaPierce agree!

  • Man she was good.

  • bird shit

  • @mycheezyhelm ha ha too funny shes got that dead look goin pretty good

  • kamaszkorom egy nagyon klassz időszaka volt..........

  • This September marks the 30th anniversary of when I bought my first Lene record. I have never lost my love and fascination for Lene and her work and it was this video being shown on a syndicated video show called "Rockworld' in the summer of 1980 that hooked me. Still as original and gothic as ever. Eat your heart out Lady Gaga!

  • @VIEWTUBE00000 WOW! "Rockworld" was once a show my older brother and I couldn't wait for each week!! I remember first being introduced to The Boomtown Rats, Gary Numan, Elvis Costello, Selector, Lene, Siouxie and the Banshees, etc from watching "Rockworld" back in 1979-1980.

  • @VIEWTUBE00000

Lady Gaga sucks as all the new music today does. The creativeness the ideas the musical talent is not the same as it used to be. Lady Gaga is not gothic, at best she is a pig. If all her fans had half a brain they would not listen to her.

  • Back when MTV started they actually used to play edgy stuff like this (basically played anything to fill the time exceoting Black artists for awhile).

I was both freaked out and attracted to this song, video & her.

  • Before WMSE, Milwaukee went on the air as a 1000 watt FM radio station, we were a campus only station in the basement of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Bookstore. Lene Lovich was one of our top airplay artists. She and others of this genre were so far ahead of their time.

  • One of the best New Wave songs of the early 80's.

  • I loved this song is soo haunting I love her bird call

  • Lene = awesome

  • Now this is what I call true art come to life. She's just so different and unique which is why I'm fond of her. I wish I heard of her sooner but now is better then never. There were so many unque artists back then compared to now (Don't think Lady Gaga is unique...). Still, awesome video and song. This is amazing.

  • what a greate song!!!!!

  • This song is.... how can I say .... scary beautiful dark <3

  • Nice operator work. And symbolism too...

  • I love this singer....She just has an unique voice bird song a great hit forever....

  • great song and video I always love lene Lovich when I was a teenager even today I still love her music

  • She is so beautiful!

  • nice song,

  • Never bettered! Briliant track and utterly chilling to the marrow!

  • Praise the Goddess Lene Lovich!! What an amazingly brilliant and talented artist she is!!!

  • Simply great

  • Goddess have MERCY! I remember seeing this song after midnight on Don Kirshners Rock Concert on 1980 have never been the same again! Thank you for changing my life LENE!!!!

  • Same here. Loved DK Rock Concert at 1AM on Saturday nights and then watching Night Flight 'til 3AM.

  • Her best song!

  • did anyone notice the backflipping pidgeon at 1:36?

  • Love this song!

  • Is it the Gloucester cathedral on 0:47-0:49?

  • Bella, bella, bella. E' stata bravissima, era avanti di un decennio!

  • Always loved the bass line in this track. Much under rated artist.

  • Lene is from Kent UK and is fantasic

  • i love nina hagen, but lene lovich is wonderful too!!

  • Ein selten gut gelungenes Stück. Eines der besten, dass es auf dem Musikmarkt gibt.Einfach genial!

  • Really fresh & original in 1979 & it still is!

I was 11 yrs then & crazy about Lene Lovich.

Lucky number was a huge hit here in New Zealand but i'm not sure about Bird song...

  • Shows how it is when you are "too" sensitive.

  • that was the time my clothes turned black... ;o)

  • godess!

  • I did too...I was 10. Then got Flex and Stateless soon after.

I had a huge crush on Lene,Nina and Blonde at this time.

  • I bought this single in 1979 when i was 13! Don't know what happened to it but its nice to hear this song again.

  • can anybody tell me how old this song is? I think I first listened it when I was 15 and now I'm 42

  • It's from 1979

  • @OrchidOxycodone I gave the 10th thumbs up for your wonderful comment.

  • good goodd :)

  • superb

  • thats a nice famous lene lovich song.

  • STVARNO NAJBOLJA!!!!

  • Lovely lene, that voice, those eye´s, brings me back to the 70 - 80´s.

  • Assomiglia a Siouxie....

  • All ppl who like Lene Lovich should search for Dandi Wind. ;)

  • Lene Lovich is still one of the best female singers and artists ever!

I mean look at todays mass-produced drum track feamle vocalists, they're an embarrassment.

  • I love this song, its really haunting.

  • The words of this song are so sad, from the first to the last word... that doesn't mean I don' t like the song, it's quite the opposite, I LOVE IT, it's wonderful!!! :-)

  • Absolutely dazzling...

  • Absolutely stunning single and video from the "Flex" lp. Lovich was a visionary, and dug her heels in when Stiff Records put a halt to the sessions for what was to be her third album. I call this artist interruptous. The lady was on a roll. They released an ep instead, showing the direction she had been taking. Excellent work, wish they had let her alone. Her 3rd lp proper, came years later, "No-Man's Land". Stiff really did a fine job of damaging her career. Damn! NEW cd is "Shadows & Dust".

  • FUCKING GREAT! anyone know what shes upto now?

  • She had a live performance at Drop Dead festival in Prague november 2007. Not that up to date though, check her website.

  • She's my girlfriend's land lady today hehe

  • Alltime-classic's!!!! Even today you can still listen & dance to it on every good goth-disco!!

  • wonderful

second only to "to tender to touch"

  • I love her bird-like calls in this song, so hauntingly beautiful :)

  • Is the bald guy in the videos her husband by any chance?

  • Yes.

  • Doesn't get much better than Lene Lovich singing "Bird Song." If you ever wondered what happened to Wednesday Addams, well, she grew up, hooked up with an Uncle Fester (somewhat) look-alike, and became a Brit pop star. Absolutely appropriate.

  • Let me guess, fyllbulten is from Sweden? :)

She was pretty big in Sweden at the time

  • ..classic..all time fave... ^O^

  • she is so beautiful, i love this woman, her voice and those eyes !!! great video !!!!!

  • shes my land lady.

  • that is way cool. i can only imagine what she is like :) not that she might even care, but please let her know she has a big fan in boston ma and i wish her nothing but the best !!!! thx for the reply :)

  • Love!

  • can anyone post Joan of Arc

  • if i had her mouth and eyes my life would be better.

  • its that bad huh.

  • literally misplaced sarcasm... but ho ho, i see what you did there, very uncharming.

i like her lips and eyes. German expressionism 'n all that..I like my own lips and eyes fine but I still stand by my original statement.

  • Well you should, and who says I lie, I never.

  • the first bit when she looks down is kinda scary but i love her work

    its so meaning full

  • this video makes me think.

"will accurate reproduction parts ever be readily available for E-bodied mopars"

which is obviously its intended purpose.

  • no he wasnt! jareth you idiot! he was a production assistant that always happened to be wearing clothing appropriate for the video! you dont know anything you idiot!

his name is Pepito m'butu goldstein

AND HE WAS NEVER IN THE BAND!

  • is it me or is that bald guy in every video?

  • He was a member :-)

  • The bald guy is her lead guitar player, Les. They've been together for many years. I don't know if they're married or not, but they do have kids together.

  • In the runoff grooves of one of my Lene Lovich albums it says "Lene is the Leader/ Les is More".

  • always loved this song, much better than lucky number, whatever happened to Lena Lovich? does anyone know..

  • ''whatever happened to Lena Lovich? ''

go to myspace and you'll find her there -- she continues to have a very large following + for good reaon!

    :)

  • She's still around and performing! Her last show that I know of was Drop Dead Fest in Lisbon last October, I saw her in the airport coming home! She also released an album back in 2005..

  • I loved this song when it appeared, and I still do. Marvelous punky disco. Love!

  • das ist doch eines meiner favoriten , das war genial in den achtzigern..zumindest für die die Ahnung von guter mucke hatten!!

    YEAH !!

  • Amazing this song will sounds fresh and modern even though it is 30 years old!!

  • I saw her in Dallas in 1982 or so. She did put on a hell of a show. I have never b4 or since seen a weirder or more bizarre female in all my life save for Nina Hagen who is also a Godess. Siouxsie from the Banshee's is pretty cool too. All the above threw caution to the wind and did wtf they wanted to, yayyy, what a concept. Lene was told she was too strange so she took it to limits and became a new wave icon. My fav is New Toy..and Blue Hotel...

  • Too weird my butthole! I love Lene Lovich she's amazing and I can't get over how talented she is.

  • She put on a great show. I saw her many years ago when she came to Washington, DC.

  • lene lovich expressions in her beautiful eyes gets my attention every time..!!!!

  • ROFL

  • infuckingcredible.

  • awesoem awesome awesome

  • blow me!!!

  • was für ein grauenhaften musikgeschmack muss man haben wenn man so etwas hört

What for a Bad music is this ??? it`s terrible

  • Hey i was 8 when i bought this Lp here in Portugal... Still have it and love it!

  • anyone knows where exactly the cemetery is?

  • This was one of my favorite vids when it came out. I still love it after all this time. Lene and Les really complete each other. Such great talent.

  • I love this song. The angst in it is incredible. Anyone know who directed the video...?

  • I first saw Lene Lovich on the The Midnight Special in 1979. They played the Lucky Number video and I believe Say When. I was in awe from the very beginning. Lene (and Les) were very revolutionary in creating complimentary videos with their music. She is one of my all time favorite artists.

  • It must have been about 1979 and I must have been about 16 or 17 years old. I was laying on the family room couch watching late night TV. This was before MTV and music videos weren't routinely shown on network TV. Anyway, after some program I was watching, they showed this very video. I watched it in awe. This shit was just too cool. I caught the name of the artist at the end but it took me a cuople of years to find her albumn. I wish I knew what happened to it...

  • In Italy only local Tvs used to show vids in 1979. I remember very well: Bicycle Race (Queen), Do ya think I'm sexy (Rod Stewart), I was made for lovin you (Kiss) and Bird Song (Lene Lovich).... but it was not very easy to find Lene Lovich records, I still keep Flex, Stateless and Hotel Blue as diamonds: nobody is allowed to touch them! Lol

  • Great singer! She was my idol when I was 8!

  • I'm curious JoaoPQ, what other bands do you like from that time? You seem like a very articulate person and definitely have good taste in music.

  • I really like this song,

    haha

    she's so rad

  • what the hell............

  • I have always loved Lene! She was just so different. I loved her music because it was always so foreboding and kind of desperate sounding. I still have all her stuff on cassette from the early 80's. I was glad she tried to make a comeback in the late 80's with "March". It was good too. Boy do I feel old. I'll never get tired of her music. I hope she is doing well.

  • she is, lol, she is coming here to portugal on sunday... unfortunately I won't see her because next day I have school (I'm just a 16 year old teen). but yeah, she's a great artist. too bad my generation is so shitty when it comes to music...

  • So glad to hear your friendly reply about Lene. I am so pleased to see that someone your age is a fan of music from my days. Unfortunately, you are right about your generation and it's music. Someday maybe things will change for the better. Boy, to be 16 again. That was about 25 years ago for me! Enjoy your youth and the great music of my youth!

  • lol, yeah, I trade cd's of post-punk stuff with my philosophy teacher. he knows lots of bands too. and you're right with those facts, the music from your youth is w
