Vai is pretty shitty man, Fair enough he is talented but i can think of far more bands/artists that can write better songs than Vai.

And id say improvising has more point than just learning a song someone else has already written.

I totally agree with your second point, since improvising is pretty much a training exercise for me to try out new stuff and attempt to improve my technique. I also believe Steve Vai is a good guitarist but his songwriting is sometimes pretty poor, I heard Incubus' "Aqueous Transmission" for the first time the other day and it absolutely blew my mind!

Tapping. Rapid. Are you mental? That's pretty slow for tapping. It's clearly ripped from Eruption as well. It's repetitive and boring, certainly nothing special.
