Windows got too comfortable, that was his problem. He was always freaking out cos he was scared of becoming the Thing. then when the test showed he wasn`t the Thing and he got the Flamer, he was likely `yea! i`m not the Thing` and went to sleep.

Then when Mac`s flamer wouldn`t work, Windows was still half-asleep expecting Mac to sort it out. When Mac said, "Blast it!" he`s like, `what? o-Ok!"

then he gets again caught napping when the Thing drops in front of him and says `hello`.

Well Windows is simply too shocked by what he`s seeing before him.

Y`know there`s a saying that no one knows how a person will act until faced with a life or death situation THEY have to deal with.

I suspect if this had been real life in a populated city, you`d get a lot of people who would freeze like Windows out of shock, astonishment, panic or sheer disbelief and just get imitated- horribly. the survivors would be the ones who could fight still.

The thing that makes cgi so unrealistic is that the movements are so smooth and are missing the normal jittery movement that all living things have. In other words some cgi is as if they are unafected by gravity.

@skimbap lol, i that was strange too as john carpenter is so precise when it comes to why things happen they way the do in this movie.

when i watched it over, i realised that Windows - in a fucking careless, lazy and ill-disciplined way that seems to exactly fits with the character - is wearing only ONE strap of that flamethrower harness? so when he does get grabbed, the whole thing drops off his shoulder [*can* drop, from the directors perspective ] in that final - and dramatic - way.

little fact, at 1:08 Kurt Russell actually threw a REAL stick of dynamite upon filming, the shock of the blast completely overwhelmed him as seen moments later when he is apparently 'blown away' by the blast (notice the snow on the rooftop upon explosion - shows it was real) I am certain he had suffered mild ear trauma due to the explosion. But, great film nonetheless :-)
