@ihategobots7 That's funny, there was an official Bio that was "written" by Spike Witwicky and he said that something just didn't seem right about the appearance of Jazz's Pretender shell, lol.
I dunno about the concept for the US version of Pretenders but the Japanese concept is easier to understand.
*Transformers disguised as normal sized Humans
*To transform into the robot, they transform into this "In-between stage" where the human form takes on a set of armour which can also be used for battle
*Then, Armoured Human morphs into full sized Transformer
Transformers: Super God Masterforce is where Pretenders come from.
@Inikalord In the US series, Pretenders were sort of a way to avoid identification as Transformers, while still being able to operate (apparently, giant humans or monsters get less of a response than giant robots). They were also a lot more useful in combat, since most Pretenders were at least three times taller than their inner robots. Characters like Bludgeon and Thunderwing stayed in their shells for most of their existence.
Probably. You know that fact was actually referenced in an official product? in Dreamwave's "More Than Meets the Eye" in-universe encyclopedia Bumblebee notes that Spike would have thought that Jazz's Pretender shell would have looked "different".
@coeloptera In the Marvel comics, Jazz's pretender shell wasn't designed for him originally so it was acceptable. He's more than meets the eye, he's a black man in disguise!
Yes, however those were still organic. And the Disguise was actually enough to fool the humans. As seen in "Monstercon from Mars", where Decepticon Skullgrin becomes an Actor.
I see. You're taliinjg about the ULTRA pretender Decepticons. I'm refering to the first wabve of Pretenders released in 1988! 1989, also saw the creation of the six Monster Pretenders with had rubbery monster shells.
You're from Germany so I'm not sure if you're comic continuity is the same as ours in the UK, also I haven't read the comics, I'm just going by what I've seen from the toyline and Super God Masterforce. I don't think the Pretender shells (at least not in Masterforce) added any sense of 'power' to either side, they were just their for disguising their robot forms.
The comic continuity in Germany could very well be the same as the UK's, so you could be right about that. But it may mean that the comics follow a slightily different appropach to Pretenders then what the anime and toy lines had in mind.
This commercial was made in 1988, Latta was still alive then, My guess is he was too busy to provide the voice for this commercial. FYI Latta died in 1994

To Disguise as Organic beings. But mainly as Power Suits.
DragonConvoy 2 years ago
For the Autobots this is true, Decepticons however disguised themselves as humanoid monsters.
David315842 2 years ago
Yes, however those were still organic. And the Disguise was actually enough to fool the humans. As seen in "Monstercon from Mars", where Decepticon Skullgrin becomes an Actor.
DragonConvoy 2 years ago
Yes, but the Decepticons never used Power Suits, but they did have armour armour, but yes both were organic disguises
David315842 2 years ago
The Shell tiself was a powersuit. Some like Bludgeon and Thunderwing barely got out of their shells.

Pretty sure that the comics established that all Pretender Suits worked that way.

Well, I read about on the Transformers Wiki. They meant the Comics. Masterforce is different in several ways.
DragonConvoy 2 years ago

As seen here, where the Classic Pretenders are VERY small and stay that way.
DragonConvoy 2 years ago
Indeed.
David315842 2 years ago
Yep.
Toyline - Pretenders are small and have shells.
Comics - Pretenders are huge and have shells.
Masterforece - Pretenders can change size and there are no shells as they actually change.
