  • i like how prime sounded like he was greeting long since dead friends returning from the grave just to aid him, bet he felt so special.

  • GIMMICK WITHIN THE GIMMIC!

  • Prime! I'm Here as Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of the Pretenders!

  • Pretenders = epic fail.

Hasbro was running out of good ideas at this point.

  • What's with the midget Jazz. I mean Prime looks gigantic compare to him.

  • @DrCrow85 Cause Prime is larger than life my friend.

  • @Straphis2001

Also, he combined with his trailer...

  • if the g1 cartoon series had any value left this Pretending crap surely would have killed it

  • 0:24: That doesn't look like Jazz's Robot Mode

  • @snakes3425 Maybe because that's his Pretender shell? Learn yourself some Transformers plz.

  • This is where TF went down hill...

  • dammit i wish i still had the grimlock for my pretender.. i have an empty shell

  • They introduced this guys in the comics. After a few issues they ditched the pretender shells.

  • Whole series of pretenders was T O T A L F A I L

  • How come jazz's pretender isn't black, NO RACIST!!!!

  • @ihategobots7

That'd be hilarious. Scatman Crothers' voice coming out of a white guy = lmao

  • @ihategobots7 That's funny, there was an official Bio that was "written" by Spike Witwicky and he said that something just didn't seem right about the appearance of Jazz's Pretender shell, lol.

  • They're beyond!, BEYOND!!! anything you've ever seen before.

  • @argh698 inside one..theres the other..thank god for youtube

  • what a ridiculous concept... what exactly are they pretending to be? very large awkward looking humans in bizarre armor? haha

  • @jamchew1982 Not exactly

I dunno about the concept for the US version of Pretenders but the Japanese concept is easier to understand.

*Transformers disguised as normal sized Humans

*To transform into the robot, they transform into this "In-between stage" where the human form takes on a set of armour which can also be used for battle

*Then, Armoured Human morphs into full sized Transformer

Transformers: Super God Masterforce is where Pretenders come from.

  • @Inikalord In the US series, Pretenders were sort of a way to avoid identification as Transformers, while still being able to operate (apparently, giant humans or monsters get less of a response than giant robots). They were also a lot more useful in combat, since most Pretenders were at least three times taller than their inner robots. Characters like Bludgeon and Thunderwing stayed in their shells for most of their existence.

  • I am going to pretend that I didnt see this

  • so confusing, soooo confusing

  • I LOVE THIS

  • Jazz's shell looks...wrong somehow.

  • @coeloptera

    is it because hes white?

  • @8bitPikachu

Probably. You know that fact was actually referenced in an official product? in Dreamwave's "More Than Meets the Eye" in-universe encyclopedia Bumblebee notes that Spike would have thought that Jazz's Pretender shell would have looked "different".

  • @coeloptera

umm k, i tend not to read the comics because they sometimes go aganst what was done in the shows,

i was just tring to be funny

  • @coeloptera In the Marvel comics, Jazz's pretender shell wasn't designed for him originally so it was acceptable. He's more than meets the eye, he's a black man in disguise!

  • So THIS is where Bumblebee got his stripes!

  • Prime's huge..

  • @sporemancrazy No it's just that Pretenders are small almost human size

  • the grimlock looks pretty good for g1

  • They're not rare at all. Kmart even sold them without the shells as exclusives, as well as the mass-retail versions seen everywhere else.

  • in that case, can anyone make some reveiws of them?

  • Hey dude, is any were sound track of this song? ITS ROCK!!!!

  • Does anyone even have these toys, arent they SUPER RARE or something?

  • Optimus was massive in that commercial :O

  • is it me or is the audio off?

  • @unicron245 it is.

  • I never really understood the purpose of "pretenders"

  • To Disguise as Organic beings. But mainly as Power Suits.

  • For the Autobots this is true, Decepticons however disguised themselves as humanoid monsters.

  • Yes, however those were still organic. And the Disguise was actually enough to fool the humans. As seen in "Monstercon from Mars", where Decepticon Skullgrin becomes an Actor.

  • Yes, but the Decepticons never used Power Suits, but they did have armour armour, but yes both were organic disguises

  • The Shell tiself was a powersuit. Some like Bludgeon and Thunderwing barely got out of their shells.

  • I see. You're taliinjg about the ULTRA pretender Decepticons. I'm refering to the first wabve of Pretenders released in 1988! 1989, also saw the creation of the six Monster Pretenders with had rubbery monster shells.

  • Pretty sure that the comics established that all Pretender Suits worked that way.

  • You're from Germany so I'm not sure if you're comic continuity is the same as ours in the UK, also I haven't read the comics, I'm just going by what I've seen from the toyline and Super God Masterforce. I don't think the Pretender shells (at least not in Masterforce) added any sense of 'power' to either side, they were just their for disguising their robot forms.

  • Well, I read about on the Transformers Wiki. They meant the Comics. Masterforce is different in several ways.

  • The comic continuity in Germany could very well be the same as the UK's, so you could be right about that. But it may mean that the comics follow a slightily different appropach to Pretenders then what the anime and toy lines had in mind.

  • As seen here, where the Classic Pretenders are VERY small and stay that way.

  • Indeed.

  • Yep.

Toyline - Pretenders are small and have shells.

Comics - Pretenders are huge and have shells.

Masterforece - Pretenders can change size and there are no shells as they actually change.

  • Lolz... Jazz, Bumblebee you're back... and me grimlock too...

Where were they when their leader needed them? :P

  • better question, where the hell had they been all this time to warrant this !

  • ha ha love that kids bad impression of Grimlock.

  • One pretender will be featured in ROTF

  • who's chris latta

  • The voice actor for Starscream in the Generation 1 cartoon.

  • Also did the voice of Cobra commander too.

  • Ah, good o'l Grimlock.

  • Chris was still alive when this add was made.

  • And the EEEEEVIIILLLL Starscream!

  • To bad Scatman Crothers or Chris Latta where not around to do this advert!!!

  • yeah, Latta couldn't fit it into his schedule what with him being dead and all.

  • This commercial was made in 1988, Latta was still alive then, My guess is he was too busy to provide the voice for this commercial. FYI Latta died in 1994
