Good job, we only have 90/10 gas at our job, an I know that gas gives you better penetration as well as less spatter, but was wondering if it makes it easier for out of position welding like overhead an v-up, using 75/25???
I'm new on the youtube videos watching, but you're excellant instructor. I've been welding a long time, 30+ years, but still open to learning from others Thanks!
In many cases it is beneficial to use the nozzle to gain some support while MIG welding overhead. If you direct the wire upward into the joint and turn the work angle to get equal legs on the fillet, you can rest the nozzle on the vertical piece to gain stability. Nozzle diameter and style can change the stickout a bit, but it still can be dine effectively.
Thanks Jody; love the videos. I use them for my students all the time. You've saved me from making a pant load of videos. ;-)
In al of your videos where you are showing the actual welding, the weld puddle, electrode or wire are very clearly visible as well as the joint to be welded. I know you are using a camera and probably an auto darkening helmet t shoot through I have a great deal of difficulty seeing what I am doing when welding. I have a Hobart auto darkening helmet with adjustable darkening. My visibility is one of my biggest stumbling blocks to better welding. Suggestions?
@quad4midget idk if it helps much but it all depends on your amperage if you use low amps then set the darkener to the lowest possible notch, i had trouble with this my first time welding last year in my tech class, most cases the problem is head placement, the easiest thing i can tell you to help you is if you weld left to right you want your head to be at the right of the mig/stick welder and vice verca right to left welding, cause you want to be able to see where you're going with your weld
Your new punched metal background for when you list settings looks slick! I also like that you had your machine settings typed out right in that video. It's always going to vary from machine to machine, and project to project - but while you are learning it's nice to have somewhere to start from!
I always thought that sagging drips were caused by my puddle being too hot. What I hear you saying is to keep the current up, but move the wire around so that you don't lose a big puddle to gravity. Do I have that right?
Great vid, thanks for putting this together. I'm a home hobbyist and have some overhead welding to do on some rear suspension mounts on an old Triumph TR6. Will definitely be watching this one a few times.
i suggested this! not to take credit, I'm sure there were others! cant wait to try this tomorrow in class. you lead me to believe my stickout legnth was my main problem. hopefully correcting this will yield immediate results. thanks for the help!
What do you do when you get bad rods

Can flux core be used overhead

If your welder has the inductance setting, try setting it to 30% for less spatter

@302vortech i find that it works best with just a tad more wire feed than u wound normally and hotter as well
