How sad that Ned is was so terribly underrated. He was a very good songwriter and singer. Unfortunately in the New York area market the only From A Jack to A King received any air time.
Oh this brings me back in time to the mid-1960s on the farm in Ireland where I grew up. Two sisters and older brother had emigrated to London and had brought back a record player with records, one of which was this record, which I immediately fell in love with. We would dance around outside the farmhouse in the summer with the music of this record which I played over and over coming out from bedroom window. Now it brings tears to my eyes....
You're reading too much into it. I never once said nor inferred that the good Professor Miller is deceased. I am very much aware that he is still with us. The past tense refers to his career, since he retired some years ago. I for one would have no objections whatsoever if he ever decided to come out of retirement and record again.
I have absolutely loved this song with a passion since the original Fabor label 45 was released in late 1964. It's the B-side of "Do What You Do, Do Well" (which is stupendous enough in its own right). Alongside Verdelle Smith's "Tar And Cement" and Barry White's "You're The First, The Last, My Everything", this record features one of the best string arrangements ever committed to record. Grab a box of Kleenex. This will move you. God bless Ned Miller! He was one of the greats.
, this one reminds me of when i was a mere lad of 15. I use to visit my aunt and uncle in a small Nfld. town 45 minutes away. A new Highway since the late 70's puts gets me there in half the time now. My wife is from my aunt's town, didn't know her then as she was only 10. The old hang out where i use to play that one on the Jukebox has changed to a modern day Convienence store but when i pass it, everytime i drive to my in laws home, I can't help remember a lot of things from that summer.
Not sure what all of that has to do with the record, but the A-side was actually on the charts in January-February 1965, not in the summer. Whatever the case, it's one of the most perfect records ever made.
@MikeBlitzMag Forgive me, but this sounds very past tense. Unless I've missed something Mr Miller is still very much with us alive and well though now in his mid eighties! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Great singer. I remember when "Do what You Do, Do Well" hit the charts in Denmark.
Dusty Guitar is a great song. I am curious to know what the second line in the 1st verse is after "How many teardrops ...."

Every song sung by Ned Miller is terrific. First time I heard this tune.
"Big Love" sounds closer to me to "From a Jack to a King", though we've yet to see that song from the pictured hits' album Posted.
Wonderful look at pictures of Ned and his 45's. That is very well arranged. Thanks for Posting.
