Dungeons and Dragons is what took Tolkein's creatures and turned them into a staple of modern fantasy. Orcs were classic bad guys long before warhammer or warcraft. Although I'm pretty sure the Zerg were ripped right off the Tyranids.

If u truly think about tolkien took the idea from myths. That said he made it medievil but gamesworkhop put it into a completly diffrent aspect they put them as future which is completly diffrent then warcraft lotr and myths so they made a new idea. And one warhammer was made about 10 to 15 years before blizz was even popular and starcraft came out years after there popularity started. So starcraft is the rip off. Warhammer didnt copy the real concept of the ork myth. Lotr and warcraft took myth

I wish the game developers and 40K book authors would watch this clip......they seem to believe you need to loose hundreds of space marines..!! There are so few space marines in comparison to the other races yet they kick ass because they are so good at killing and ridiculoulsy hard to kill...... hence why they end up living for hundreds if not thousands of years and getting more and more lethal the whole time.

Matter of fact (more or less): Originally WarCraft was going to be a WarHammer Fantasy game. Then problems with publishing rights or something like that happend and Blizzard reworked the game, ultimately releasing WarCraft as we know it.

So yes: WarHammer was there before WarCraft, because the former inspired the latter ;)

@exo6desmo8 How does this sounds like wow? Just so you know it, most Blizzards game are inspired by Warhammer, fx Starcraft and even World of Warcraft is inspired by Warhammer. Blizzard admitted that to Gamereactor. Warhammer as well are inspired by Norse Myth and World of Warcraft is almost everything inspired by Norse myth :) But back to this entertainement, cuz infact it don't matter what it sounds like, the game is still great :)
