this stuff really grinds my gears.... Some people hate truck drivers and make it a point to pull out infront of them, get in blind spots, and cut off 18 wheelers on the free way. I watched a van full of innocent people get crunched by 2 semi's. the van tried to slingshot one semi going down hill and the other semi had no brakes. the van got t boned by the run away truck, then the van was thrown infront of the truck they tried to sling shot. RIP to everyone who lost someone in a wreck, but damn.
i concur with one post of curved roads. i run on roads with tighter curves than on some of those pics.i invite anyone to come up and take a ride off loonie creek mountain or out derby hollow with me.loonie creek is a 8% grade with 2 lower switchbacks where your drivers side steer tire is on white line and back of your 40 foot 3 axle trailer is 2 foot from the rock hillside.there are no guard rails and drop off off 150 foot to road below...did i mention GVW 160,000 plus
youd think trucks would be banned on that stretch of US 129, they are on US 441 from Gatlinburg,TN to Cherokee,NC. if anyone ever drove that 30 mile stretch you know what im talkin about
man, thought going up US127 in Tennessee was bad. heard about the Dragons Tail b4. my dad used to do it in a cabover pullin a 48 ft van. he said it wasnt fun at all. now we drivin conventionals pullin 53 footers. US 321 from NC going into TN is just as bad. also GA 53 from Dawsonville to the junction with GA 5 has some sneaky curves. US 76 from Ellijay to Chatsworth,GA will sneak up on you if not careful.
@1badass04z - Definitely not advised! I've done it on 2 wheels and on 4 wheels. No way would I do it on 18! Take US-74 across from Cleveland, TN to Shelby, NC instead, and that road's bad enough! Even the I-40 gorge isn't really all that safe for trucks.
@msjr777 - sometimes the shipper or receiver is on the back roads. How do you think the lumber and bricks and roof shingles for the houses on those back roads got there?
Fairness to the drivers since I see no signs saying no trucks this road, Id sue the state. Dry road, in the daylight, this should not happen. Rookie mistakes. Of course half the drivers out there now come from mexico and dont know how to read sign to begine with. Makes all drivers look bad.

I was a driver as well... some of these pics look as though they were taken from HWY 12 in Idaho....not exactly an easy road to make curves on...but I managed to do so safely. Not bashing any of the brother or sister drivers... four wheelers have caused a good number of wrecks also. Here's the thing, youre not going to see them in most of these pics. Know why? Too many times I've been in the slow lane on a highway doing +5 the speed limit only to have a big semi pull up to within 10 feet of my rear bumper. Do not put my life in danger. <-- This is why I have no respect for truckers.

If a truck driver does this to you you should get the company name on the truck, the truck number and tag number and/or icc/dot number and call that driver's safety director. All legal info should be displayed on the side of the tractor. This is not legal nor is it safe.

@calcahoun With the European combination 2 axle on truck 3 axles on trailer you would pass most of these curves without any problems! Our combination is only 17.5 m long and is much cheaper to run because of our trailers dont have double tires!

that's a shit of a road to try and get a trailer through, judging by what i can see on the vid, you'd need to swing pretty wide even with a 8x4 truck by itself (standard NZ rural trucks). I'm surprised trucks don't need a pilot or at least some traveling restrictions on that road.
They need to hire better truck drivers instead of hiring the lowest educated ones who will work for the least amount of money which is what they do now.

@countrymusicgtavboy2 because all statistics show that women cause more car crashes than men do but something interesting i found is than men are more likely to die in a car crash. and teenage boys cause more accidents than teenage girls but guys and girls in there 20's are about the same. its women over the age of 35 that are a lot more likely to crash than men are. every website iv looked at say the same thing.
We don't like those narrow, windy roads. However, how do you think you get your food, gas, or tp? Trains don't go to walmart and box trucks would require more drivers and trucks. Not everything has an interstate directly to it.

@zileevropa You really know don't you. It so happens we have cab overs here too but they can't make the corners much better as its the long trailers that cut the corners. If you are that hot a driver bring your cabover here and show us truckers how its done.

@calcahoun With the European combination 2 axle on truck 3 axles on trailer you would pass most of these curves without any problems! Our combination is only 17.5 m long and is much cheaper to run because of our trailers dont have double tires!

that's a shit of a road to try and get a trailer through, judging by what i can see on the vid, you'd need to swing pretty wide even with a 8x4 truck by itself (standard NZ rural trucks). I'm surprised trucks don't need a pilot or at least some traveling restrictions on that road.

@countrymusicgtavboy2 because all statistics show that women cause more car crashes than men do but something interesting i found is than men are more likely to die in a car crash. and teenage boys cause more accidents than teenage girls but guys and girls in there 20's are about the same. its women over the age of 35 that are a lot more likely to crash than men are. every website iv looked at say the same thing.

We don't like those narrow, windy roads. However, how do you think you get your food, gas, or tp? Trains don't go to walmart and box trucks would require more drivers and trucks. Not everything has an interstate directly to it.

@justgivemetheaccount : i know right? sadly though many people must think that everythings made right behind the store! its also sad that most drivers will take out themselves and risk losing their loads than ramming a car full of kids/people whose driver is too stupid to respect the fact that the truck is bigger and heavier than them. My father was a long hauler for over 15 years and I have heard his stories of 4wheelers (cars) and motorcycles tailing him and speeding around him
