Heard this years ago on a split 7" they did with Dear Nora. Thanks for the nostalgia trip. Now I need to find Dear Nora's cover of Girl From The North Country.
@Elledge8 Try Jackson Browne's version. He originally wrote the song when he was very young; though it is simple, I think it finds the true heart of the song.
This song and this band occupy a very sacred and nostalgic place in my heart. It's almost hard to listen to because it bears so much sentimental value for me, but it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made. They made it their own.
One of my all time favorite Jackson songs... many have covered it, and that it is because it is such a great song and relatable to most everyone. Jackson Browne is one of the greatest song writers of the past. Good job/nice harmonies. Love this band...
Whenever I hear this, I can't help but shed a tear. Jackson Browne and Nico don't hold a candle to this version, in my honest opinion. Sad that I'm probably the only one who thinks that. =')
You're not the only one that thinks so. I love this version so much better than the original. Nico's guitar is nice, but her voice just kills it for me.

Evil, evil, rich white people, with their mealy mouthed, asinine bilge for people who have a very limited experience of existence. these people are scum!!!!!!!!!!
what cutting wit! I'm actually poor white scum, but you got everything else right. Good for you champ! Now let me go look for a hole... Oh, and while I'm doing that you can listen to some more of Mates of States limp-lettuce mewling. Lucky You!
Well, duh, of course, and from this 'subjective' position it's banal, mawkish, dross for pseuds. As for muscial high horse - I'd rather a high horse than a one-legged donkey with jaundice. If you like this it says more about your own stunted aesthetics than mine. And what do you mean by: 'mind your business' you aren't Sarah Palin are you?
mhhhmm, so you're the final judge and jury on what is and isn't good music?
thank you for clearing that up for us.
In a completely subjective realm, you in your mighty wisdom and snarky wit have managed to shine a beacon of light on us lowley fools.
please share more opinions with us that we should hold as fact.
what are your favorite foods? favorite color? favorite boy band? please I must know your gold standard opinion that is obviously %100 right for everyone else, no matter what.
"so you're the final judge and jury on what is and isn't good music?" - for myself yes! However, I hardly think that what I think is objective moral law or anything.
If you like this fine, good for you. But I don't, and therefore I reserve the right to slag it off (the comments on here are fairly positive, so I see it as helping balance things out).
i agree that rtyphus is an uptight prick who would probably suck to hang out with in person, but come on, u gotta laugh about the favorite food, color, boy band remark.
Just In Case You Guys Didnt Know This is A Cover Song which was Originally Sung by Nico from the 1968 Album Chelsea Girls..... Its An Alright Cover But The Original is SOO Much Better.. Peace
True He Did Write for her but He Actually Never Used it As Material for ANY Of His Albums Until Like 1972-3 and The Chelsea Girls album was already out since 1967 and Jackson Browne wasnt the Only One Who Wrote for Her So Did Robert Zimmerman (Dylan) and Lou Reed.

That's possible. Or you could just be an elitist douchebag who thinks he's cool because he says that he knows about the first person to use an organ in indie music.
I think it's shot in front of THE OUTSIDERS movie.

Let's get a fact straight.
It is a Jackson Browne song. So It is a cover of Nico's cover of Jackson Browne.
I will take Jackson Browne's original over Nico. After all he wrote the damn thing.
Thanks
JimmerJammer83 3 years ago
Nico recorded it before Jackson Browne though. I like jacksons voice better than Nico's, but I like Nico's style of guitar picking better.
BigPapaSmurfy 2 years ago 2
Actually that is Jackson Browne playing guitar on Nico's version.
But, her version of his song is decent.
