pigeons were never used for aerial photography, it was investigated, they found it to be just a rumor for two reasons:

1. The camera would have to have a timer on it to take the pictures meaning the service would have to do impossible accurate equations!

2. The camera would be way to heavy for the pigeon to lift, i doubt the biggest bird in the would have trouble lifting one of those clunky things off the ground and even if it did it wouldn't get very far never mind going to Germany and back!
