Each and every day they process vast amounts of image data to compare it for changes against previous observations. One of the effects of a black hole on light and all other kinds of electromagnetic radiation is GRAVITATIONAL LENSING.
This GRAVITATIONAL LENSING causes readily observable effects and would be readily noticeable not only by mainstream astronomy but by the myriad of amateur astronomers throughout the world who also participate in ad-hoc sky surveying because they enjoy supporting the professionals for the sense of contribution they get from it. Even if there was a black hole on its way, given it would likely destroy the entire solar system as well as earth, I'd rather enjoy my last few years in ignorance thanks.
