@ibanezmanvicente8a yeah mazda 3 and mazdaspeed 3 are both FWD, some people have gone ahead and experimented with them and made them AWD, but im not a fan of converting a FWD vehicle to AWD. The mazda your friend probably has is the Mazdaspeed 6. Same engine different body. The only thing the speed 6 is suppose to put out 274hp while the speed 3 puts out 263hp. DOnt know how or why guess they tuned it different at the mazda plants.

Maybe he chose B16 over the ones you mentioned because of price, reliability, and ability to retain p/s and a/c. Yes, H22 is cheaper than an SiR II B16 but maybe he's not able to perform the swap himself and saw that he would spend less in labor for the B16 swap. Just a thought...
really you'd get a b20 before a b16? yeah lose around 3 hp from a D16y8! you think it's bigger cause it's a 2 liter. i mean yeah it'd be better if you put a b16 head on it. but stock b16 is best bang for your buck for a good fitting engine. b20s come in right around 126 hp or the b20b at 146 hp.
I agree dgsk8r27! And if you get a B16 get the B16A not the B16A2. B16A is the SiR motor and the B16A2 is just a USDM Si motor. SiR has more HP and more Torque, and it revs higher! I have the SiR swapped into a 96DX Coupe and I love it! Can't beat 30MPG running 12s on the 1/4! :D

Ok bud, here is a dyno run from JACKSON RACING which IMO is a very reputable source. Bone stock b16a3 which is a more chocked out US emmisions verson of the JDM b16a which makes 10hp more than the US counterpart. This information isnt from some moron who fanboys gay ass domestics, this is REAL DATA not from the head of an apparant moron. Because the loss from a FWD car to the wheels is around 15%(on the high side) so even if you do take your 110 to the crank and multiply it by 1.15
You get 126.5hp which is oddly the stock output of a D16Y8. The loss to the wheels as calculated from jackson racing #'s is 13.75 %
as the stock output from a b16a3 is 160hp.
138whp*100/160=86.25-100=13.75% So NOW we know how much a FWD car looses to the wheels, it is IMPOSSIBLE for an engine that produces 160 at the crank to dyno at 110whp, or the dyno is reading wrong because it heavily goes against the average loss for a FWD vehicle.
i prefer domestic over jdm anyday but im not saying i hate their engines... the only engines i do like are the ones actually putting out power ex K20 and H22

The mazda your friend probably has is the Mazdaspeed 6. Same engine different body. The only thing the speed 6 is suppose to put out 274hp while the speed 3 puts out 263hp. DOnt know how or why guess they tuned it different at the mazda plants.

Perhaps "Ignorance" is the wrong choice in words, but I will explain, nonetheless.
The term "Rice" or "Ricer" is applied to vehicles, whose only mods consist of visual changes/upgrades. An engine swap, (such as the one done in this video) is a performance upgrade. Thus making this car a "Sleeper," the opposite of being a "Ricer". Secondly, if you were questioning the validation of the win based on WHAT a dude's driving, than your opinion is already flawed. Punctuation pls. Chances are better that our driver here isn't rich, and bought this 14-17 year old car on a budget. Even if he DID blow the motor, how long do you expect the average daily driven engine to last anyways? Thats a long time for any car's engine to last. He may have just wanted more performance. Don't know why he chose a B16 though. Only 158hp. I woulda chosen a B20, K20, or H22(all around 200hp). I don't really care what he does when he's driving. Or whether he talks shit, either.

Maybe he chose B16 over the ones you mentioned because of price, reliability, and ability to retain p/s and a/c. Yes, H22 is cheaper than an SiR II B16 but maybe he's not able to perform the swap himself and saw that he would spend less in labor for the B16 swap. Just a thought...

I agree dgsk8r27! And if you get a B16 get the B16A not the B16A2. B16A is the SiR motor and the B16A2 is just a USDM Si motor. SiR has more HP and more Torque, and it revs higher! I have the SiR swapped into a 96DX Coupe and I love it! Can't beat 30MPG running 12s on the 1/4! :D

But you're right that it may not be a sleeper either. From the little you can see/hear from the vid, sounds like just a fart can tacked on. (not whole exhaust system) And the tail lights might be after market. I can't tell from this vid. I do hate actual rice cars though too. (Though this is not a ricer.) Ok bud, here is a dyno run from JACKSON RACING which IMO is a very reputable source. Bone stock b16a3 which is a more chocked out US emmisions verson of the JDM b16a which makes 10hp more than the US counterpart. This information isnt from some moron who fanboys gay ass domestics, this is REAL DATA not from the head of an apparant moron. Because the loss from a FWD car to the wheels is around 15%(on the high side) so even if you do take your 110 to the crank and multiply it by 1.15

You get 126.5hp which is oddly the stock output of a D16Y8. The loss to the wheels as calculated from jackson racing #'s is 13.75 %
as the stock output from a b16a3 is 160hp.
138whp*100/160=86.25-100=13.75% So NOW we know how much a FWD car looses to the wheels, it is IMPOSSIBLE for an engine that produces 160 at the crank to dyno at 110whp, or the dyno is reading wrong because it heavily goes against the average loss for a FWD vehicle.
