Roughly 20% of our economy goes untaxed because it is underground, but we could tax it with a clever strategy I explain in a blog post. We really do need to rethink our tax strategy entirely. We miss a lot of opportunities to use taxes to more wisely influence the evolution of our culture.

Personally I think a better idea would be to cut spending. At least half the Federal government is unnecessary and has no authorization in the Constitution. The only part of the gov that earns it's keep is the military.
Good luck trying to cut spending. Most isn't discretionary. I think we'd be better off funding a civilitary more than a military. We need to start engineering strategies to cooperate with other nations rather than compete with them. This is a world we must outwit, and can't outgun.
