@gregorykopko Ok, I'm not going to say you're right or wrong but I don't agree with you. I think there's many parts inside that could break or fracture but it would still (partially) function. Anyway, this weekend I was planning on taking the old diff (the one installed in this video, my OE diff) apart before taking it to a scrap yard. I'll post my findings.
damn....i think i have a similar issue. my miata is also very low.( framerail sits 1inch from ground). i thought mine might be my cv joint, but im not sure. mine isnt quite as lound as yours yet.
@sortaflush I forgot to update this, I'm 99% sure it is just my 1.6 open differential. I have since upgraded to a 1.8 TorSen LSD with a 1.8 driveshaft and 1.8 axles. No problems thus far! I am going to take apart the 1.6 diff and inspect the axles (1.6 with torn inner boots) and get a definite answer to this problem, I'll post either a video response or pictures and link from here.
If your diff broke you wouldn't be going anywhere...
