This spot was hilariously parodied by Carol Burnett...she was so adamant about not giving up her box of "Tidy", Harvey Korman mugged her for it, knocking her to the ground. When a policeman came along asking if she needed help, her response was "Never mind me--just get my Tidy!"
The lady sounds like a typical midwestern suburban mom in the '60s and '70s (or Jane Curtin as Lisa Loopner's mom on SNL). Her voice sounds very similar to the "Fargo" accent (bet she used the phrases "Dont'cha know" and "Okey-dokey" a lot). Obviously game show announcer/host/pitchman Jack Clark has found another likely "victim" for the Tide 2-for-1 swap. Don't do it, lady! Aw hell! She's under the spell of Jack's vaunted skills with the opposite sex. Jack's a straight-up pimp!
@SuperHomer25 how are they today as in money? or as in using tide? money wise...all the money they got was obviously from a while ago. it actually took my mom to college. but yes my mom does still use tide. my grandma (the main lady in the ad) still uses it i think..but not totally sure
My mom told me when this commercial came out a lot of stores were offering 2 to 1 as a promo for Tide in our area too. We're not that far away from Schaumburg. Very few women took them up on the offer. My mom opted to pass up the deal. She loved her Tide till her dying day. She refused to use anything else. I use it for most of my wash as well, but I have dabbled with All on occasion.
@gunnahappen1908 how are they doing today and do they still use tide? these commercials are so much better than the ones today.if you posted this on then thanks i really enjoy it.
