  • Risen Star sat in the garden spot in the Preakness, Winning Colors had to press from the outside, gets taken wide, and she still fought like a tiger through the Pimlico stretch. If Risen Star hooks Winning Colors in the Derby, he gets smoked. That being said, Risen Star was a great horse. If another horse hooked Winning Colors in the Derby, Risen Star would have had a big shot.

  • Just a bad ride by Dellahousaye, period. Bad time to change riders just before the Derby. Bad trainer that didn't know what he was doing.

  • Risen Star simply didn't fire. Secretariat was even further back (last) and still won.

  • I can't believe that the keep Risen Star so far back. If he was with the front runner he would have won the Triple Crown like this daddy....the great Secretariat. I heard the jockey told the trainer after the race that he is training the horse wrong and he need to be up front. After that...we all know what he did in the Preakness and Belmont stakes.

  • I started watching the Derby after Street Sense won in 2007 and something spectacular always happens in the KD. I knew Winning Colors was a filly that won the derby but after watching the race for the first just now I'm shocked. That was a crazy win. I'm stoked.

  • This is one of my all time favorite derbies...............winning colors was a great filly and had guts, heart of a lion on the front end being 1 dimensional but having the heart of a champion and holden all the boys off and forever linking here with 1 of the greatest derbies ever!

    Respectfully, so what. What she did, with Stevens and Lukas, watch the Santa Anita Derby!..?.. She's forever in the thoroughbred hall of fame (as is Stevens and Lukas of course).. done deal baby.. Winning Colors; doing just like D. Wayne Lukas said she would.. etc.. wire to wire.. you can't beat this..
