Most wonderful recording of this song wich is worth admiring .I have heard the original and other recording Live recordings of this song of Bahadur Shah Zafar but this is my most favorite .

There is a version of this ghazal that came out in an album Mehdi Hassan released in late 70s that has the following sher:

Paa-e-koobaaN meN koee zindaaN meN nayaa hai majnooN

Aati aawaaz sil-a-sil kabhi aisee to na thee.

Would anybody have a version of this ghazal with that particular sher?

This beloved ghazal was composed by the last Mughal emperor of India , Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was steeped in Sufi philosophy. Those with some understanding of Sufism can see that ghazals like this can be read either as romantic tributes to an earthly sweetheart or as a spiritual expression of pining for union with the divine. This is the best of all MH renditions-- in my opinion. Thanks to cheecheepia for the lovely illustrations as always and to Asgharji for the kind forward again.
