  • >dem triplets

  • @DancesWithNarwhals No,the gong drum got just one head.

  • Is the gong drum just a bass drum?

  • not really digging the mike portnoy double bass, but nice solo mister karling.

  • I want that Floortom :D I mean.... kick

  • and day eat da poopoo. haha idk why but this drum tone reminds me of that video xD

  • what kind of belt do you have on?? jeez everybody always goes product crazy on here. like its going to make them sound the same. strange days. indeed. lol

  • I know you posted this up for comments on the actual dw kit, but what cymbals are you using? they sound real tasty man:)

  • NEVER MIND THE EQUIPMENT..JUST PRACTICE PEOPLE.

  • Who is Will Karling?

  • @headzeppelin83 The awesome drummer!

  • A dude practicing on several different kits is awesome? Once he gets rid of that double pedal (which is cheating) and plays ball you may make that judgement.

  • @headzeppelin83 Double pedals aren't cheating, or else you are saying 70%+ of professional drummers are cheaters? Clearly not. Also, because he trials different pieces of kit out makes him rubbish? Man, you must know very little about drumming, because this guy is really good.

  • @TinnoUnited

Where ya coming up with %70?

    I don't think he's a poor drummer.

My thoughts are this: Practicing on several different spendy drum sets can be accomplished at your local drum shop. The double pedal thing doesn't get me going. Especially rudimentary stuff that isn't played with the precision to warrant broadcast. I like to think I know my fair share. But I might not. It's hard to tell.

  • From the start to about :30 , your sound and setup looks similar to Danny Carey's set (just without the geometric concepts).

  • aasdasdasd

  • Wow. That floor tom looks about the same size as your kick drum haha.

  • Comment removed

  • Those Vic Firth 1A's are beastly. Switched from the LA 5B to those and couldn't be happier.

  • yes

  • Awsome

  • Now THAT is double bass lol

  • i love your setup man

  • I liked this video twice :D

  • what is the blazing fast lick at 0:07?

  • is that a kick drum turned into a floor tom?

  • what size is that snare bro?

  • @dannyss29 14X5.5

  • what china you using?

  • @ezerocanrol ziljdian china zxt 18"

  • nice man! greetins from Puerto Rico!

  • nice -3

  • or just make a double bass drum kit

  • why are they called gong drums? Aren't they just mounted bass drums?

  • @drummer4life2014

this is, but a real gong drum has one head which is stretched over the bearing edge far more than a typical drum, check out tama's website

  • @flippytheleper that is a real gong drum..

  • @DRAG0NSIN7

my bad, didn't know DW made their own gong drums, looks a bit like a converted bass drum.

  • how do u tune? i like the sound

  • you sir, are talented

  • what´s the name of the china?? sounds awesome!

  • @FlorianWaletzko Zildijian

  • can you give me any suggestion about the tuning of the tom and floor tom? i'm going mad with my 14*9...seas f overtones even at the lowest ranges :/

i'm using remo emperor coated on the batter and ambassador coated on the reso

    thanks

    Davide

  • What China? sounds excellent.

  • @HeetWav13 Zildjian 18" A Custom China

  • Is that at the DW showroom? cuz i just looked at their amazing website link from Pacificdrums and found a "Gong drum". so basically a gong drum is a large, uprighted bass drum?

  • what china is that??

  • I like! I like very much!

  • I like! I like very much!

  • shit you play far back on them sticks ^_^

  • are you remo emperor? do you tune the resonant head tighter than the top or the top tighter than the resonant?

  • what kind of snare is that?

  • what kind of china do u have

  • you are sick as hell man, and the kits are just amazing!

  • you are sick as hell man, and the kits are just amazing!

  • Nice snare sound

  • first time i see someone use 22" bass drum as floor drum :D

  • Nothing sounds good......

  • ohhhhhhh i did enjoy this video a lot ! awsome playing and awsome drum congratulations :P !

  • are you endorsed? or are you rich. plz answer.

  • @JCustomZ He's not endorsed he's just freakin rich and we are all jealous!.. Don't deny guys!.. Thumbs up if you are.. Ahaha.. Its okey to be jealouse sometimes!.. LOL ..

  • @muziquero28 i dont see how hes not endorsed dw should notice him buying like 20,000 dollars worth of kits

  • @pnutskater96 you dont earn endorsements on buying things, if that was the case i would be endorsement by 3 diferent companies. you get endorments based on how well you can promote their stuff. people like COBUS get endorsements because hes got 5 million views on his youtube page where everyone can see that hes using the kind of drums he does.

  • @Synetik4 yes true but he does promote dw products ind almost every video and hes not a bad drummer

  • @pnutskater96 no he is good but it has nothing to do with skill. companies look at musicians and ask themselves. "if we give this guy 10 000 dollars worth of drums, is he gonna make us money so that its not a lose on our part?". endorsements are given to drummers who are generally looked up to by a large group of people. sure this guy is good. but i could find hundreads of talented drummers on youtube who play DW's. the diference between this guy and lets say Cobus.

  • @pnutskater96 is that people look at this guy and say. "wow those drums sound good i want DW's" where as people look at Cobuc and say "wow Cobus plays DW's, that makes me want to play DW's". We all know what sounds good. the diference is you have to be able to make people want the product you promote just because of who you are.

  • @Synetik4 Cobus doesn't play DW. He plays UDrum.

  • @chrometrees dw was an example

  • @Synetik4 Sorry! Don't wanna be an ass!

  • @chrometrees Cobus just recently got Endorsed by DW... look at his channel

  • @russdonruss only pedals and hardware, not drums. and that one video on the cobus channel, he borrowed that kit

  • do you speak english

  • I will give props for the drum shell sizes though, i envy you.

  • The higher pitched cymbals made me cringe after hearing the nice deep tom sounds.

  • jesus loosen your wing nuts

  • what cymbals do you have in the video?

  • what china is that ?

  • My ideal setup is pretty much this, but with two 21" gong drums. Small drums are for pussies.

  • @DavySolaris Spoken like someone who knows nothing about drums, DW make small drums with great low ends and Attack, Doesn't need to be big to be deep and punch. Plus I don't think DW would be half as good if all metal drummers used them, They thrive on making kits to suit anyone.

  • @gregthemangallagher I was just having a laugh you pretentious douchebag.

  • incredible sounding kit, brother..

  • what china is that???

  • so your the one selling this on ebay

  • vic firth

  • FUCK YEAH

    what a gong !

  • IS THAT A FUCKING KICK !?!?!?

  • @MrJeekz ish carred a gong

  • Wow, how do you keep such good control holding the sticks at the very ends like that?

  • @U1Tubes you wrong!!!! a 21" gong need a 22" drum head!, et 23" gong need a 24" drum head.

CHeck my other videos, I all ready have a 21" gong drum with no bottom :p

  • Tama RULZ!!!:P

  • what sticks you using?

  • @louisalive vic first 1A

  • @willkarling You play the drums and you can't say you're playing with Vic Firth sticks? WOW.

  • what drumsticks do you use? they looks so long!

  • That floor tom is the size of my old bass drum

  • Nice setup... I wish there was a front angle shot..

  • Bass drum as floor tom. Now that is creative.

  • holy fuck that tom is bigger than the bass drum!!

  • yo why dont you put both bass and have a double bass drum? :)

  • if the crashs where 20's then that would be my dream kit, the mic in the camera makes the kit sound toneless tho

  • I'm jealous, gong drums are amazing :D

  • are you KIDDING me?! Nice chops, great drums!

  • Hey man I was just wondering, what kind of camera did you use to film this vid? And great drumming man, it was a treat

  • What china is that?A custom?

  • y is ur 18" bass being used as a tom?

  • That drumset is something tht was thrown down from heaven!

  • I think drums have a nice fat sound! I mean, you will never get a 18x20 sound out of a 26in. Bass drum, but you can get a dry punchy sound from a 18x26 bass drum if you mess with the tuning.the trick is to let the drums sound like how it is supposed to sound!

  • if i could type out a groan of musical satisfaction i would

  • what rudiment or rl pattern are you using?

  • its like RLRLFF RLRLFF , called a six stroke

  • Tuned to perfection <3

  • @benturki Agreed. :)

  • great sounding kit and im not gonna say my sonor 3005 sounds as good. But i wouldnt say difference in sound is worth that amount of money. My opinion anyway.

  • @MaxBS I use a Sonor kit too, and the thing about Sonor is even their cheaper lines of drums like the 507 force series, when tuned properly can sound as good as the top line kits of other brands. I use a Force 3007 kit, and I'd choose it over this one any day because it costs less, and in my honest opinion sounds better. I'm not hating on DW, I love their products, but I guess I'm just a die hard Sonor fan.

  • Does that gong drum even have an enlarged head on it or is it just bass drum without a resonant head on it?

  • it's a converted bassdrum, and it probably has a reso-head since you can see the bottom lugs and hoop

  • "Superior-niss"!

    Was none of that micd?

  • thought it was cool till i saw him use a double pedal ;)

  • Very disappointing for a 26" kick. You must have that giant DW pillow in there? DW makes nice bass drums but they sound better when sitting behind them than they do at a distance. I quit playing DW because the shells are far too thin to project well, IMO.

  • that bass drum has no balls ... you really notice it at the end when he plays a beat

  • you right! I all ready prefere my 18x14!!! more bass, more power, more attack lol!!!!!

  • I am not sure if it is the drum itself or the size or a combination of the two ... I do know that with such a big bass drum the beater will not be able to strike dead center . It strikes more like off center / bottom edge . That might have something to do with it .

  • one other thing ... there is a reason why 22`s are the industry standard ... just saying .

  • @sweetfly66

I think it sounds a bit like bongos. Do you have any idea what 18 inchs sound like im thinking of buying

  • i have not played an 18 before . My experience with 20`s is that they are very punchy and really easy to play . I had a Yamaha Birch Custom drumset in small sizes ... 20 , 10 , 14 .... the drums sounded great , i used them in a Top 40 dance situation ... and like i said , they were amazingly easy to play .

  • i play an 18inch kick and love the punch

  • Now you wrong ;) The Beater is absolutly in the center of the head!! Don't forguet that I use the mic of a small camera, not a C414 microphone in front of the bassdrum.....

  • @willkarling Who the hell would put a C414 in front of the kick drum? I know it's a great mic, but come on. Not exactly a first choice.

  • @gcdrumguru in studio!!!! I love it with a couple of beta 52 and sub kick = you have THE sound :)

  • @willkarling Three mics just for the kick drum? AKG D112 is MUCH better than the Beta 52 will ever be and if you want something great to pair that up with, use an RE20. Keep the C414 where it belongs. Overheads, vocals, guitars, acoustic string instruments and sometimes on toms.

  • @gcdrumguru you've right! I don t like my B52! I prefer the D112 and olso my E602!

I only use the 414 for the "Room Sound"!!!!!! thanks for comment!

  • @willkarling

hey, do DW drum heads fit on another drumkit which is not a DW?

  • The heads sound really thin.. Try throwing some Evans EC2's on there and see how they sound. Awesome solo though, 26" kicks sound so good :)

  • What are the timbale type things!??

  • anyone know where to get a gong bass drum from. cheers

  • you can use a normal bass drum, or Tama and Pearl sell actual gong drums

  • musiciansfriend

  • what finish are those drums? finishply broken glass?

  • Rich fag.... never mind... sorry, I am just too jealous...

  • @key00992233 .. hmm he has a kid so I assume he has a wife which makes him not a fag. 2nd he is well off with money, he explained once, he doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke and spends his euros on music equipment and video game stuff. 3rd this guy has skills, listen to every video, he's smooth and solid and plays some great grooves.

  • ummm.... why don't you read my comment all the way to the end???

  • @key00992233 i bet he doesn't have a car tho

  • Taylor Hawking ´s same sizes

  • hawkins not hawking !!!

  • nice chops man... I would love to hear your kit EQ'd through some nice mics!

  • @iwarner09 he obviously has the money to buy some nice mics lol

  • I think u have a bass drum fetish, lol

  • Now THATS what I call a FAT sound!!

  • I envy your set, congratulations you have a nice suound

  • danngggg look at the last tommmmm.

  • man thats a base stunding upright by the tom mount!

  • yeah, but he's using it as his last floor tom either way.

  • 'bass' not 'base'

  • its a 24 inch gong drum, you wouldnt use it as a bass drum because it has no leg brackets on it.l

  • Clamp-on spurs work ok.

  • I know it says gong drum in the title, but that drum has a bass hoop. It looks like a bass turned that way to use it as a gong drum. It does sound great, and looks killer, in fact if i had another bass drum i'd do the same. I am just saying it as I see it, maybe that brand of drum makes their gongs that way. Now here come the hater comments.

  • good but NEED mics

  • um bombo como granaderoO jeje

  • Great selection of drums you have there.

One thing I must ask though is you have a lot of videos titled.. Will Karling plays...... Who is Will Karling? I'm intrigued! Should we know of you? Done a google search but nothings come up??? (other than the vids on youtube that is).

  • i think he does it because he also has his son in his video but i agree its weird

  • he is Will Karling, how hard is that to figure out? look at his username.

  • Yes I see that smart arse! But who is he? Who is Will Karling? It's written in a way that we should know him. Do you?

  • ok sorry for being smart with you but he's just a dude that plays bass and drums.

  • well i am assuming that as his channel is called will karling, he isn't a proffesional so.. no you shouldn't have heard of him. It makes more sense to put "Will Karling plays..." than "I play..."

  • their are a few pro drummers with youtube channels with as their usernames...

  • wish i had the money to blow on a giant bass drum floor tom. wait, no i dont

  • ummm i think its his heads? not tightened enough? thats why it probly sounds so plasticy?

  • well toms sound kind of plasticy but then again they're huge and unmiked. awesome!

  • Wow what a beautiful drum kit. Dw make amazing drums. Definitely my dream kit would be a DW.

  • Comment removed

  • wow that gong drum is the same size as my bass drum woo

  • The gongtom sound like kicking against a garagedoor..

  • awesome analogy. hahaha

  • I thought gong drums were called table toms

  • the gong drum looks bigger than the bass drum?

  • it is bigger
