To the person who uploaded this video... while I love The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" and the music definitely worked in the context of the ending to Cruel Intentions, it doesn't work with this. The show's style demands it lack music for a reason. And even if music were meant to be included, this song does not work with the context of these scenes.
I would've loved to have seen a shot of Ronnie walking into prison with his prison uniform on and Antwon Micthell (Anthony Anderson's character) looking at him with a smug look on his face
I think the end really became The Shield again, just with ICE. Mackey is a survivor above all else, Shawn Ryan said he's like a shark, he just keeps swimming. You think ICE can just handle the LA gangs without Vic out there? They'll need him, and Vic being Vic, he'll figure out a way to get back out there again....it's what he does.
when vick leaves the building with his gun at the end, like hes not going to except his fate and its the last act of disrespect for authority above him, i think he leaves to kill himself, just my opinion
This was an incredibly gutrenching series finale. Poetic? yeah it was. But...sometimes we watch tv to enrich our lives or escape from the ugly realities of life isnt fair. I think most of us would have prefered at least some kind of fullfillment for some of the characters instead of everyone being stabbed in the back in this way. I loved the show and the ending i respected, but hard to swallow still.
@TheSlothook Does it not enrich your life? Does it not make you feel better of your own life that you did not go down the same path as these guys? Did it not make you question your own morals when you were torn between Vic and Shane's mirrored sides?
That is one way to look at it, but key pt is that these characters, we followed them for 7 full seasons. And tho they did alot of terrible things, the setup of the show always seemed to paint them as flawed warriors trying to do the right thing in a flawed world. Sure, the pt of the ending was to show us that there is no moral justification of doing bad things. Still, we followed them thru thick and thin, and each received a cruel fate that never seemed to be truly deserving of.
@TheSlothook Ronnie was always following and going along with everything they did, so its appropriate he takes the fall for everything. Lem gets murdered and backstabbed for trying to do the right thing. Shane started to take matters into his own hands and appropriately took his life in his own hands and brought his family with him. Vic manipulated everyone and was the most conniving, thus he gets away with everything and gets to know he betrayed everyone and has his power (badge) gone.
Their fates are ironic and appropriate, but not deserving imo. Heres how it should have gone down if they were fairly judged. Lem should have gotten away with it cuz he was truly the most innocent. Ronnie should have died trying to save the team since hes the most loyal. Shane should have cut a deal and been a pariah since he was the most conniving, and vic should have rotted in prison since he was the one who masterminded it all and deserved the cruelest fate.
@TheSlothook But this is The Shield. It tells it like it is. It's not a cookie cutter world or that kind of Disney-type movie. Many would say they were fairly judged. They did horrible things. They killed people.
I was a huge Shield fan, and expected a disappointing series finale (as is the case with so many shows). But Shawn Ryan again came through and left me wanting more. You just know Mackey is going the wrong way.
The music was perfect for the scenes, I just didn't like the raising a lowering fo the volume. A subtle playing in the background would have sufficed. Nice job just the same.
"I still can't believe they would do something so sick as to copy the Benoit tragedy"
Why can't you beleive it?? What should they have done?? Anything else would have exploited any other tragedy no matter what they choose to do. But your a fan of wwe so that is why you find it so sick.
You have to learn to get a life and not connect things together just because they are simular!!
Look dude, I don't even watch wrestling anymore I stopped watching that shit when I was 13 but even I know the details of the Benoit MURDER suicide. First he beat his wife to death Shane poisned his family if anything its more of a Jones Town type situation then a man ragin and beating his family to death. Shane posined his family and they went peacefully. I don't mean to sound like a cruel asshole because when I watched WWF I was a big fan of Beniot but what he did was sickening-
(Cont) and if ur depressed and want to die, go kill urself or seek help don't kill ur loved ones. It pisses me off because of the fact that his wife tried to fend him off. Anyway thats my take on it, The Shane Murder Suicide isnt anywhere at all like the Benoit.
Shows what you don't know. The writer already said that's what he based it on. Try to keep up with stuff. He said he wanted it to be just like what happened
I remember reading that it was sorta inspired by the tragedy. But everything is based on something. These kinds of murder suicides happen all the time. Benoit is only well known because he was a popular wrestler.

WTF is with the goddamn music?! Why would you ruin an awesome show ending by adding cheezy late 1990's music to it? AWFUL!
