You're a politician, you've built a mighty fine career on the fluctuations of public opinion, douche drinker!
The positive thing is, this will be the quote he's best remembered for. Everyone remembers when Kennedy died. "Ask not what you can do for your country..." was all over the media that day! Very fitting epitaph this Dick will have...
It was "Ask not what your country can do for you", douchebag. But that's all Cheney has done. Used us like whores. My only reason for hoping there is a hell is that this guy burns in it.
My point is, leaders should do what they believe is correct and not side with public opinion polls. Also, public opinion polls are very misleading because they can be manipulated by the people or political organizations who conduct them.
@newyork142536 Today's Americans, I'd like to think, have better sense than they did 50 or 150 years ago. So when most of them say they no longer support this war, it's probably for a good reason. The initial excuse (WMD's) was falsified, followed by a few other big ones. There are also well-documented transgressions committed by Cheney dating back to his days as SecDef that exemplify how just he calculating and self-serving he really is. Dick Cheney is evil, plain and simple.
In Germany, the execution of Jews and minority groups was embraced by the majority of German people during World War II. So if you side with the public opinion polls, then the Holocaust was justified and correct.
Slavery and racism was extremely popular with the American public, but is immoral. So if you say public opinion is always correct over, "the right thing," then slavery is justified and correct.
Cheney is right here. What's popular, isn't always right. We should always choose rational argument over public opinion. Fighting for a secular and democratic Iraq was right at the time, and continuing the fight is right to do now.
Excuse me. The vice-president's job is to represent the American people. When 2/3 of Americans say something isn't worth doing, if the vice-president continues doing it HE IS NOT REPRESENTING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! Period, end of story.
A democratic republic, technically. Or at least we are in theory. In practice we're basically a militant plutocracy with imperialistic impulses. Ours is an empire of influence, conquering the world with American-ism in order for the world to better suit ours and our interests: or, more realistically, the interests of the rich and powerful who benefit from our violent expansion throughout the world.
The people's voice was heard when we said "lets go!" We didn't say it just because of WMD's, or we would be clammoring for war with over 20 other countries. The point is quite clear: Our government is willing to see to the end a decision made by the people. We made the choice, now we gotta see it through to the end.
This is the guy who's really been running the country the last 7 years. The more I see of him the more I realize that I would'nt trust him to check my mail if I went out of town! He is Shady!
Cheney is laughing all the way to the bank (the Bank of Dubai that is). He's got what he wants: your money. You've heard from GWB that the economy is going through a 'rough patch', but do you really know how rough that patch is? Set aside your political affiliations for a few minutes and take a look at this YouTube vid. The truth is trully shocking:
"So?" ...Like "are you kidding me?" "You don't care what the American people think?"
The guy is an asshole and I'm ashamed that he is from the state I grew up in. Good bye this election season, dick. History will judge you and your arrogant, misguided reign with contempt.
@Lavenderfairylol WHEN THE FASCISTS APPEAR IN THE USA, LIKE BECK, BUSH, CHENEY, COULTER, SHARPTON AND PALIN, THEY WILL BE WAVING AMERICAN FLAGS AND THROWING THEIR BIBLES AS WEAPONS AT THEIR ENEMIES!
When should we expect this criminal to be tried and prosecuted for treason? The crimes he has committed in his contemptuous disregard for the constitution and the people of this nation shall not be overlooked by this American.

Exactly, leaders should do whatever they need to, and have no regard for the public sentiment.
In fact they should outlaw voting all together. Who are 'voters' to decide?

uh.. wasn't it a fluxuation public opinion that gave him his job?
And isn't fluxuation in public opinion and the following through with that opinion the cornerstone of democracy?
