this was michael't most loving song he wrote, that's why jermaine was singing it too at michael's memorial service and it was verry tough for him to sing it b/c it made him cry, but he did it! donna summer did the song too and it was verry beautifull to hear and see it. i'm a fan from michael for almost 30 years and i love all his music, just like the discomusic. that was the periode when i grew up.

@minoeke7 Chaplin's movie, Modern Times, was from the 1930's, way before MJ recorded it in 1995. I love MJ's version, but he in no way wrote the lyrics. I found this tidbit of information aslo: Chaplin composed the music, while John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954.

This is like "Melody of Love" all over again, for me. After listening to her, for 30+ years and thinking, she was 'good', Melody of Love was a revelation! Her performance of that song showed me that she was EPIC! It was THE first time I noticed her Operatic qualities (which she’s displaying right here with “Smile”)! One of THE MOST naturally gifted and UNDERATED performers of the last 30 years! Amazing!

Funny how WE in America won't see a performance like this on network tv. The loss is ours because Donna Summer's sultry & powerful voice is overlooked. Can anyone honestly sing ONE Beyonce song from start to finish? Just one? Of course not. Played today - forgotten tomorrow. Ms. Summer is a classic! Savor her voice while she is still around belting songs like this outta the park!
