  • oke... WHERE is the F*CKING AWSOME BUTTON!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for the lesson it helped my much. Its hard to learn but its possible ;) Thanks!

  • The thing is, you kept giving me the middle finger. : )

  • Thanks man! I've been looking for the middle section for EVER!

  • to me this looks like your flipping off all the haters while you playing guitar! Great work btw

  • Way cool!

  • PERFECT! thank you, i was looking for that crazy solo at the end.

  • Your D sounds flat to me. I could be wrong.

  • looked and sounded good to me!

  • dude you r awsome:)

  • this is not a lesson its just some 1 2 modest 2 2 do a cover so they play it slowly and call it a lesson

  • haha i just saw Kansas on June 13 2010, Awsome Concert

  • thank you for posting this im just haviong a hard time seeing what you are doing when u get to the high part of this section if u could please help me out and send me the tabs that would be very helpful. thanks again for the awesome vid!

  • i think your amazing keep it up

  • thanks, man...well done.

  • Is that an LP Jr.?

  • wow thanks for this!

  • Thank you for playing that slow. That helps me out a great deal. Especially when you don't have raw talent. You have to learn everything slow and play over about a 100 times. But you did great job it sounded just like the song. I used to party to that song all the time.

  • AWESOM ALL RIGHT

    LEARNING ITNOW

  • aaaa you are married.

  • great vid man.thx for sharing

  • don't you know the easier way to play that? Just to hit the 2nd frets onto a pull off to open?

  • yeah, thats the same way I play it.

  • even though this one definitely requires more discipline

  • @StephenHardyMusic The easier way isn't always the best way. If you gGet lazy, your music will more than likely start to sound shit.

  • @StephenHardyMusic You have more control if you use the 5th fret. It's not all about being easy.

  • great job i wish i could play this maybe one day with more practice

  • im sure you can!

i learned it in like a day, its very easy!

  • niceeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  • flippin the bird

  • The solo is in-correct, all other parts are perfect. My band did the song for a piano recital I had, and we rocked the fuckin, well, small room populated with 50 year old parents. They, kind of enjoyed it. Well, it was fun playing this song, it's a great song to cover for an event.

  • One thing I have notices is that people who pick apart others work usually means they are jealous. Post your videos so we can critique. Other wise shut the hell up!

  • Really, dude shut the fuck up all i said was the solo was wrong, and all other parts were right. at about 0:43, it is different from the recorded version. Also, most of my comment was elaborating on how i did a cover of the song, most of it wasn't even directed towards this video.

  • I have watched a number of your videos now, and i like the way they're done. They have proved extremely usefull! Many thanks.

  • Thank you for this post!! Just got the Les Paul (Epiphone) I always wanted. Haven't played for 15 years. This is the first riff in my list!

  • Hm, I play it a little differently ill post a reponse soon, this is a really awesome riff =D

  • YOU ARE AWESOME MAN!!!!

  • fabulous playing man! sounds great! great lesson...was very helpful. The only thing i could ask of you is to maybe slow down a bit more or possibley write a tab out for that part higher up on the guitar neck...if not its perfectly understandable. Thanks for the video dude.. keep em coming!! 5/5

  • nice job dude i think i like this cover better than the song. almost good job anyway

  • one of my favorite classic rock songs, when you are playing those five chords, power chords whatever you want to call them it looks as if your middle finger is up at the viewer, haha good job tho

  • holy shit why do so many of you people bitch on this videos. hes playing it right so get over it. if your ganna just critisize his videos all day then go make your own the right way.

  • Thanks for your support - cheers....

  • No it is not - watch Kansas vids and you will see it played like this. It's the same notes anyway so don't be so melodramatic.

  • Yeah, this is how i play it

  • ur such a bitch...go make ur own videos if u think u can make better ones

  • Well either you're an idiot or you're just an ass. You do realize you just told everyone to play the same thing in a different place right? Open A = E on 5. 2nd fret G = 7th fret D.

  • True, the way he plays it is definitely not wrong, same notes, but I think the other method that hes talking about is an easier way to play it though, at least I think so.

  • your an ass you know that?

  • @foxjohnreeree What does fingering positions matter if all the notes are being played correctly in the right tempo? ... FOOL!!!

  • @foxjohnreeree check out mr. wikipedia over here actually they don't watch some videos before you make your self look like an ass.

  • I thought it was pretty dam good myself, hammer on. There's always a critic lol. 5*s

  • it sounds good but i need the tab for this

  • Exelent, but you are killing flies with a sledge hammer. The original method is much easier.

  • meh, I find it really hard playing it to speed :\

  • holy **** that was awesome

  • damn dude that sounds good

  • do you have a tab for 0:40

  • standard tuning?

  • yeah it is

  • sweet thanks man

  • Great video good to see Guitar hero songs come to life. Unfortunetly the high parts you played dont match any i found on untimate-guitar yet and thier versions sound like crap. Ill keep looking though! thanks again

  • or do you think you could play that 01:58 part one more time in a lesson just slower plz (:?

  • Yeah, that is the tricky bit - it's more the timing and feel that takes the patience to get right. Try ultimate-guitar . com to get started, but then listen to the original and watch the vid to get it down. It's better if it takes a bit of pain!

    Cheers...

    Phil

  • yeah tanks. i think i have almost nailed it , now ;) great lesson btw =)

  • @classicrockriffs im sorry, but i HATE ultimate guitar tabs. could u plz write me up a tab real quick of that part at 1:58 like the other guy said?

  • it's can't a hard to see what you play at 1:58 and so on(solo) do you have any tabs you could send me?

  • awesome, thanks. couldn't find that little solo lick at :40 seconds on any tabs. you're doing the internet guitarist community a huge favor, we owe you one!

  • Excellent - glad to hear it helped, cheers...

  • your dads not in kanasas gtf outta here

  • actually i know for a fact its the wrong way to play it being that my father is in the band.....

  • You made the same spurious claim 2 months ago - if you're not going to back it up then what's the point.

My reply last time was "I've never seen this played any other way, if your dad is the bassist for Kansas (Billy Greer, or Dave Hope?) then maybe you can expand on what is wrong...cheers."

    Care to reply this time?

  • That was beautiful

  • very nice video ive watched almost all of your videos and posted comments on like all of them because your the only one on youtube who can do stuff right youre very skilled cheers

  • Many thanks - it's about time I uploaded some more to keep you busy!

  • smoooooooooooth

  • Dude Awesome job. but the only thing i can't get is the solo at the end around 1:58 to 2:07 it's just to fast to keep up with. Great video though.

  • Great work man! One of the best guitar lesson vids of all time, looks harder than it is, hats off to ya' man

  • That's the kind of feedback I like!

    Cheers...

  • No need to shout...

I've never seen this played any other way, if your did is the bassist for Kansas (Billy Greer, or Dave Hope?) then maybe you can expand on what is wrong...cheers.

  • actually 3storyfall,thats the right way to play it,and even so,there are many ways to play songs on the guitar, doesnt make it wrong if you dont play it like the original, your just improvising.

  • Haha he flips us off like a million times

  • can u plz make a reamke or make it slower plz.

  • This song needs alittle explaining only where the hammer ons and pull offs were, sounded like there was a hell of alot of em. The only part that I can't get is the E string like at1:05 to 1:07 it doesn't seem that hard just can't get it. Damn its a good lesson, I got the rest of it. Do more good lessons, and Keep on rockin brother.

  • i didn'get the last part becous you play to fast the rest was nice

  • Fantastic, man; this helped me enormously! thanks!

  • good to hear, thanks....

  • hey thanks man it helped me. some people are to damn lazy and need you to go as slow as you can cause they dont wanna do the hard part. haha thanks.

  • Thanks man - glad to help...

  • hey thanks man it helped me. some people are to damn lazy and need you to go as slow as you can cause they dont wanna do the hard part. haha thanks.

  • This isnt a lesson....it is just some guy showing off that he cann play carry on my Wayward Son

  • Yeah - that's why I play the whole thing again slowly for you to see exactly how it's played so you can learn it yourself!

    Just can't help some people!

  • u diddnt go that slow u got carried away and sped up

  • yeah moron and some of us learn much better this way... I know I do. After 20 years I can finally play this correctly! (mainly cuz i suck) haha

  • u callin me a moron?

  • wow this guy gives us the finger at 9 seconds

  • slow it down man+ i think u should explain what ur doing

  • EXACTLY!!!! This guy needs to actually explain what he is doing and not just show off that he can play it

  • tottaly agree

  • If what I do helps you then great, if not then maybe it gets you started... I do what I can with the time available.

  • im not sayin its bad infact its awsome but u sould do some naration and do it bit by bit and id be the best online lesson around

  • I do intend to talk through some in future, I know it can only help make it better. thanks for the feedback.

  • your welcome but seriously great job even if it is fast

  • Actually I have seen a lot of these sort of videos and I have infact learnt this due to your video. I prefer not to have someone saying, you go on the 5th, then you move to the 3rd etc etc. Just play it then again slow time, we can rewind the vid and work it out, like I did with yours!

Great job though mate, and thanks!

  • That was my plan - glad it worked for you.

    Cheers...

  • kansas rules.pure classic rock.rock on,man!!!

  • pause at 0:09

  • extremley enjoyed it lol very good

  • could you please make another lesson for the ending part like 1:53 to like about2:09 please i can play all of the song exept that ending little solo type thing please i give you six doller and six doller by syou cookie

  • and its hard to see what youre playing on at 01:58 and up to 02:08=(

  • hey man, nice job, but can u make a vid of how the chords are after 02:20?that would be great

  • spot-on

  • CLASSIC TUNE!

  • I saw this on Revver, but youtube is better. I was wondering what you play after you do the slide 5/7 on the A string. I just need those 3-4 notes, thanks. BTW this is a really good version.

  • Thanks...

If it's the bit I think you mean, after the A5-7 slide it's D5 then back to A string for the quick 7,5,3. Hope that help...

  • There's actually a MUCH easier version of this, using a 2-0-2-0-3-0 pattern starting on the G string. But for some reason, NO ONE seems to do it that way... I was hoping someone could explain.

  • They are certainly the same notes, but open strings have different dynamics as you don't have a finger on the string - so it just doesn't sound as good imo....

  • Do you mean dynamic as in the volume of the note?

  • I have the feeling your giving me the finger. love it tho

  • awesome vid man u play this great any chance you could send me a tab of what you are playing here, any help would be appreciated thanks

  • Thanks - I don't have tab to send I'm afraid, I hoped the slow version shows you where to play it.... good luck..

  • I'm sorry, but for some reason, your hand reminds me of goatse...........:\

  • shit thats good

  • i love you

  • This guy must get laid everyday.

  • Ha Ha - I do!!

  • man that was awsome...i took guitar lessons but i quit cause i couldnt go to it all the time cause of football....i just might get back into quitar again. but yea u should try the quitar solo from freebird =]

  • Cheers! Yes you should take up guitar again.

Maybe I will put up the first part of the FreeBird solo - the whole thing would break all youtube limits :-)

  • This is a Gibson "The Paul" I bought new in 1979! Recently bought a Les Paul Custom - both v nice guitars.

And thanks to all for the supportive comments - I'm glad my vids are actually helping...

  • omfg..you helped me learn my first (good)solo...sweet..thats right ..you pwn

  • thank you very much i always find bad tablature but now i can play it

  • you need to tab that out for me plz!!!!

sry to ask something so big :( i just like this song every tab site i visit there is nothing accurate, if you dont want to tab it out can you refer me to a good site?

  • I don't have tab I'm afraid - my intention is that the slow version shows you how to play it. I hope it help...

  • thanks for posting this man! Internet tabs suck, and you showed me how to do this correctly. Thanks!

    -Rocky James

  • Yo to tell ou the truth, this is the first time i learned something from youtube. Thanks a lot!!!! if you got time, please check my vids!

  • Excellent, glad it helped.

I checked your vids - you play very well, nice Les Paul too!

  • great job, but try to go slower for beginners. my son was pretty frustrated when he could'nt do it as fast as you.

  • OK, sorry - the slower version at the end is to help you pick out where to play it. Your son shouldn't be discouraged, it would take anyone time to build a new riff up to full speed - learn the notes first and build up speed slowly keeping the playing accurate. Hope it helped - and thanks for the feedback.

  • awesome

  • Thats a cool song. I think there are a lot of players who want to know how to play this one.

  • hah, feels like you're giving me the finger.

  • Are you sweep picking this? Show your right hand too.

  • Hi, no sweep picking - I'm just doing pull offs on the descending run. Right hand would help, I was trying to closely show the left hand this time - I'll do another sometime. Thanks for the feedback - hope it helped anyway...

  • uhm i have a question my you tube makes it so i have to click show on every single coment how do u fix that?

  • make sure you have the Comment and Responses box to all comments...

  • i saw them in concert on the fourth of july this year

  • Awesome vid great playin btw 5/5

  • Dude u nailed that!! That was sweet

  • Thanks...

I'm actually doing pull offs on that first decending run , you can see that clearer on the slower version at the end.

  • Awesome

Are you picking every note or are you pulling some?

    Thanks!

  • wow thats impressive dude. great classic choice too!!

  • AWSOME MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hehe it looks like your giving the finger while playing, but other than that, your technique is incredible, I just played this song on guitar hero 2:P

  • I agree, its not that hard to keep your finger down, dude.

  • fuckin nice man. very impressive finger work easy to immulate as well

  • Many thanks - I hope it helped...

  • dude... this was incredible
