just a comment on the first two things on the list. You fastened your seat belts - Check But you just sat there and didn't show us where "the fuel shut-ff valve" was . You just continued! This is the best video i have found so far, so cool beans . But i'm after one with a lot more detail. cheers great vid bro
I learned to play video games with my left hand because my favorite video game has always been Donkey Kong, and the joy stick is on the left and the jump button on the right. I am however right handed when I write... but whenever I play video games I play left handed because I have more dexterity. I was concerned this might mess me up with helicopters, but it did not. It does NOT matter if you are right or left handed! You just need to practice & build muscle memory. So no worries... just fly!
I'm left-handed and have flown airplanes and helicopters large and small for over 40 years (18000+ hours). It makes no difference whether you write or do anything else left-handed. When you start flying you get shown which hand does what and that's how you continue. The first 10 of my 40+ years flying were as a military pilot, including airplane aerobatics. It never occurred to me while upside down that I might be using the "wrong" hand. Choppers are most fun, most difficult and expensive.
@geddon436 At my advanced age choppers are definitely more fun. Prolonged aerobatics theses days would make me sick. I still throw my light airplane around and roll it sometimes, but generally choppers satisfy me more as long as my employer's paying the bill.
The only time the collective, cyclic and foot pedals are installed in the left side are for training purposes, solo must be flown from the right seat due to C of G configuration (Robinson helicopters), bit sucky for a left hander. like chainsaws, only built for right handers.
@helifarmer1 If you have a passenger, you could fly from the left if you're that way inclined. But if you're solo, you've got to sit on the right due to the direction in which the blades spin. Because they spin anti-clockwise, it means the left skid is staying down, and if you're on the left side of the heli when this happens, you're most likely going to end up in a dynamic rollover.
im left handed. all the videos i see the pilot is using his right hand for the cyclic. and his left hand usis the collective. is the collective only in the middle or is it on the left side of each seat. if so i would sit on the left seat and use the collective with my right hand in the middle of the 2 seats. am i right? or is it unsafe for the both of us to use the same collective? or is there only one collective all together?
@marvelmax03191 Yeah, but luckily me being right handed I don't have to put up with the epic awkwardness, and I pretty much thank the great Jehovah for that every time XD

I'm SURE they don't go through all of this in action movies when they steal helicopters off the top of buildings etc...

As far as I know, havent seen anything else. :)

Both seats have a collective lever on the left side. There is no way to change these controls around.

I think ALL Helicopters were designed for right handed people.. I remember a pilot telling me once. So there's no escaping the awkwardness really.
ieuanhale 2 years ago 10
@ieuanhale I'm left-handed, and it wasn't a problem.
TrueAiR 1 year ago
@TrueAiR Hmm, that's weird. But then again being left handed does not really mean it will definitely be awkward.
ieuanhale 1 year ago
@ieuanhale I beg to differ. I think its an advantage being left handed. You can write things down and still maintain control...
ELX222 1 year ago
@ieuanhale Lol I'm left handed and I have no problems flying, though starting out, it is very awkward.

Good Job. Remember next time you raise the collective, close the throttle first.
blackplatnum777 3 years ago
Disagree with that, low RPM test is raise collective and roll off throttle
