true matt, I have seen that myself, they played at IUPUI tennis stadium in 86, it was the clearest, loudest live, real music playing that I have ever witnessed. Indianapolis Indiana, anyone else there?
... as a follow-up ... its worth mentioning that there's plenty of occasions where the band HAS performed this song live, and they DO sincerely kick ass. Perhaps this occasion was some sort of exception.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but this is lip-sync'd. I love the Outfield, and I'm a trained/semi-pro musician, and I've listened to this song probably a few hundred times. I can assure anyone that every single detail, from inflections in the lead voice, to layers of backing vocals (where noone on stage is singing them), to guitar details in both clean patches and solo details (again, where the guitarist is clearly not playing them). Its without question the radio/studio track lip-sync'd.
@mattsamudio I totally agree. Although I love this band and their music, what you're hearing here is exactly the studio track. Every single nuance is exactly the same. Anyone who loves and pays attention to their favorite music can tell that it's exactly the studio version they are sync'd to.
@Crashilicious it doesn't matter if they're one hit wonderers...I just downloaded a Greatest Hits album from them and I've been listening to it for three days straight
@scotsmaninusa omg really?! 'cause i saw a show on vh1 and they said that the Outfield only had like 1 album out ... dang i got to do my research then :p
I love this band,i constantly play voices of babylon album on my i pod, fantastic songs,gr8 hooks and melodies, and its no wonder they have to play to backing tracks, coz their songs are so well structured,it would be impossible to recreate live, just as a 3 piece.
Like forgetstartingover, I, too, love the Outfield forever. I've seen them live several times and they were ab-fab, one 4th of July in Savannah when it was just John and Tony and their guitars, totally loosey goosey. Good times!!!
Ya know, Cougar, as a drummer myself I must agree. Drums are very often overlooked as an intregal part in a band's overall sound. Alex Van Halen's snare is another standout in that category.
Hey VinBad007, I am a drummer myself, maybe not as good as you are, but I'm pretty decent one. I eat, breath and sleep drums. There's not one morning that I don't wake up pounding on my knee a paradiddle. I do agree with you about Alex Van halen's snare. I just go back and listen to some good old Billy Cobham or Steve Gadd. That's music to my ears.
Excellent, Cougar! Man, Billy Cobham and Steve "Gaddzooks" Gadd, huh? Classic drummers! I am 45 years olf myself and based on you knowing them, is it safe to say you are around my age? Getting back to your point...just listen to beginning of "When The Levee Breaks" from Zeppelin. Can you even imagine what that might sound like today on some pre-programmed drum machine? It would be a sin against music! LOL
Alan Jackman was athe drummer. He performed in and around London until a demo got them signed to Columbia/CBS Records in 1984, and the rest was history!
you can tell it's lip synched b/c at 1:48 when the back up vocals pick up that is supposed to be sung by the guitarist, he is standing by the drummer playing when his "voice" is still singing backup and he's not even by a mic...very disappointing
conocí a The Outfield a través de "Siempre en Domingo" en septiembre de 1987,y desde entonces soy la máxima fan del grupo.Tony, eres mi gran amor platónico. Cuándo te volveremos a ver por México?
Greatest love song of all time, i use to sing this to my girlfriend and it hit the spot. My dream is to actually meet them and hopefully perform for my wedding in the future lol. I love them and will be a fan forever!
100% lipsync, still my all time favourit, played it myself on guitar. Had to hear it hundreds of times over the headphone to do so, no arrogance intended.
cool video...never seen this before. love this band, but listening to this i'm 99% sure it's lip synched (certainly sounds like that -- compare with studio recording). is terms of when it's from...my guess is around the time of Bangin' (1987)...? i'm basing that on the bass drum head...
Why didn't Tony Lewis sing for another band when they cooled off? His voice is amazing.

His live voice sounds like a studio recording. If he isn't lip syncing, which it doesn't seem like he is, this is exceptional.
