One of my favorite U2 songs! I bought POP my freshman year of college: my first year out on my own, so hearing the tracks from this album evoke some great nostalgic memories!
I get such a nostalgia when I listen to this song. I close my eyes and I can picture exactly where I was when I replayed it over, and over. The crisp breeze, the night just set, the sky still a dark blue. I'd look up and see the light of the moon. Frost on my breath as I'd inhale a puff from a ciggarette. Euphoria running through my body, a sense of warmth like an intangible blanket. Everynight for months. The same old thing. What a nostalgia.
This was my relationship. Literally had a velvet dress that I wore when we first fell in love. Husband fell out of love with me, this cd came out. Made us both cry.
WOW...THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! I just shut my eyes, and suddenly I am 17 again listening to this song thinking about "that certain girl." I still remember who that was..I agree, this album is very unappreciated!
I have a tip for you: When you know you're going to take a nap, put the POP album on your CD player. There's something hypnotic listening the POP songs when you're half sleep, half consicous, especially the second half of the album.
This ranks amongst one of the most meditative, mellow, tender and yet depressing tracks I've ever heard from U2. "Pop" contains quite a few underrated tracks recorded by the band, as a whole the album showcased a considerable amount of emotional and psychological insight, that lacked in some of U2's previous releases. Musically it also ranks amongst one of their diverse albums to date.
This song reminds me of so many times, me lying on my bed, looking out the window, up at the stars and moon as I try to fall asleep. This song was the passage between sleep and wakefulness. Beautiful.
The song plays with voyeuristic innuendos ...it's appealing on many levels because of our attraction to eroticism. Heck, every woman should own a velvet dress...
I love music. Classical, Classic Rock, MoTown & a few "modern" artists.
But one thing is certain when it comes to music & that is that its a spiritual or religious experience for me. I don't just listen to music, I don't just hear it, I experience it, it flows through me and I through it.
Music has a power that cannot be described. So, your summary of the feeling of an out of body experience, getting caught up or lost in it is perfectly viable.
such an underated track..!!

I agree with all the comments so far. It's an excellent song. Very sensuous and, like Bono said, haunted.

Damn shame too. I listen to this song and it's almost like an out-of-body experience. I get caught up and lost in it...is that wierd? ;-P

I don't think that is wierd at all.
