How this will pan out seems pretty standard and tangible: With Huckabee out of the race, this gives Paul-Johnson a better chance in the Republican caucus. Despite this, I'd still hold Romney the likely nominee. At that point, it's almost a given Paul-Johnson will endorse the Libertarian nominee instead. Leaning towards Obama as the Democratic nominee, to which % points will be much tighter than last elections in an Obama-Romney 2012 clash. But we'll see what twists and turns occur.
I would love to see the myth of the Libertarianism being a branch of conservitism die. Its foolish. Yes Libertarians agree with cons on the issues they are both LOUDEST about but thats about it.
Arnold glad to see him on that wall!!! we really need more libertarians im trying to convert all my family and friends. If Ron Paul runs as a republican don't we all have to change to get a vote in the republican primaries?
@HooliTV I don't know if it's different in different states, but when I voted in the Republican primaries last November it was just two columns and you picked which one to fill out. It didn't matter or ask anywhere what party you were affiliated with, it just said to only vote in one column. If Ron Paul runs I think all the libertarians would be able to vote in the Republican primaries just by showing up.
Anyone know why Paul Ryan is on the Wall of Shame? I'm with Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in that I'm a libertarian who thinks only the Republican Party can save us with its numbers, so yeah, I'm annoyed with Paul Ryan's occasional social conservatism references, but I've been generally impressed by him and his Roadmap plan since he released it in early 2008, as well as his leadership in the fight against Obamacare.
@markcoldren I can understand why people view the LP with skepticism given its small size. However, we LPers are always curious as to how the GOP is going to become a pro-liberty organization with all the pro-war/anti-gay/neo-cons/social draconicans in it. How will you chase them off in order to hold a majority to elect a pro-liberty presidential candidate?
@lporangecounty I'm thinking Ron Paul runs and gets the bid from the waves of enthusiastic LPers and liberty loving Republicans, then the religious right, taken by surprise, votes for him anyways because they grudgingly like him more than Obama. If Ron Paul isn't an option, however, I think I'd probably throw my vote to the unknown Libertarian over Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. My hope for liberty through the GOP only exists because of the self-labeling of people like Ron Paul and Gary Johnson.
Two thumbs up for the Republican Wall of Shame! 99% of them belong on that wall for doing nothing to uphold the Constitution and defend individual liberty.
Ron Paul's movement is a Libertarian Movement not a Far Right Movement. And because of this he should for President with the Libertarian Party. With his ability to raise money and his Media Attention. He would put the LP on the map.
Thanks for offering a bit of sanity to the Republicans. But I don't think they are going to get it. Did you see the railing Fox News published? It is called "Disrespectful Libertarians Hijack CPAC Poll. It shows that Republicans aren't for individual liberty.
@spoonninja123 Libertarians by and large voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, and then voted for their own candidate for President once he lost the nomination.
@MistressRoulette That's what I did. I even (choke, gasp, cough) became a Republican PCO so I could vote within the GOP in my state's party nomination process for Ron Paul. But every time I left a GOP nominating convention hall, I felt like I needed a shower. Yucko. Now, I'm not sure whether I'm proud of what I did or not. Was I disloyal to the LP? Was I fighting the good fight for liberty? I sure hope it was the latter.
I wound up voting for Bob Barr, not for the man, but for the LP.
@korwinblue You can't really read it, but it sounds like Reagan to me. Something about signing a lot of spending bills and spending more than any other president since WW2. Too bad the LP chose to make the image unreadable on their website too...
@korwinblue Ronald Reagan, who else. The republicans love to talk about Reagan as a great President but he raised taxes 11 times; Corporate tax, gas tax, social security...on and on. He increased the national by 189%. He claimed to be a small government prsident, but increased the size of the government by 23%.
The libertarians have always been the true conservatives . Freedom is the answer and I'd LOVE to see the libertarian movement rise to power. I wish it could be done in the republican party but they just don't seem to get it. They pay lip service to the libertarian principles but don't seem to put forward any intitiatives to end the federal reserve or stop spending and the wars or protect the borders or promote energy independence.
@manofreedom Seems the Republicans don't believe in the civil liberty side of the party: as long as you take responcibility, it is not the government's business what substances you put in your body, what you do in your bedroom, etc., etc. Anything goes except violence, fraud, and trespass. I don't think the Republicans, although towing the Lib party line to a degree when it comes to free markets, understand the concept of individual liberty at all.
@TheJasonDR I'm not following your logic....I always considered the founders as conservatives as they wanted a very limited or "conservative" federal govt. that was for the individual civil "liberties" of the people. The Neocon war hawks are for militarism and corporatism and all the trillions in tax payer $ going to the "too big to fail" crowd as well as trampling the constituion with the TSA and a police state.....Sorry, but the Republican party is NOT conservative We disagree
@TheJasonDR Agreed...but where are these values best served? At the local and state level or in a large centralized top heavy beaurocracy in Washington? To me the R's have become just a "big govt" as the socialists...oops, I mean the Ds. The founders did want a limited federal govt. Individual liberties based on Godly moral Christian principles is the only way for our republic to survive. Maybe we agree after all.
