The court found that Texas never did leave the Union, never had a legal merit to do so. It was against the US Constitution.
It's too bad that Texas can't secede after stipulations in our agreement with the Union after the Civil War. Texas was only an independent nation for what... 3-4 years? And that entire time we were begging and pleading the U.S government for annexation so that our state wouldn't go under.
Defunding the federal government is the answer. Texas and every other state already has a soveriegn government that should make all decisions, laws and institutions for the people who live there.
In short, you don't need to take the far and difficult road of secession. Instead, you audit the fed, shut down all ways the federal government can get its hands on money....and then just ignore them.
The vast majority of states are moving in that direction.
