I actually have the same thing; My old IDE has a lot of stuff on it I want to save but when I hook it up with a SATA converter, the computer won't boot. If you found an answer please let me know.

hmm...I tried this...went to what is now"local disk D" went to format and it says its 31.7 GB "giving me the size of the master HDD" and my new #2 HDD is a 320 GB .....so ya...im confused :( lol

no, if you formatted your master drive, then all the data would be erased(including windows) so that would be a bad idea.
