Sounds like a deal to me, as long as its in pretty good shape I'd say you can't go wrong with that. I've had 2 and the only problems I ever had were basic stuff like a few gaskets and an E-brake cable. They're pretty good solid trucks.
Thanks!! If you want more good info on the engine, check out the Wikipedia page. Just search for "Iron Duke (engine)" I tried once to post a link to it but I don't think youtube will let me do that.
The 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder is a good reliable motor but its not the best choice for a vehicle as heavy as an S-10. It gets great gas mileage for normal town driving but this truck won't even hit 95mph. It will only register 75. For what you need I'd go with an S-10 with a V6, either the 2.8 or the 4.3 Liter. But this engine also came in lots of lighter GM cars (fiero, celebrity, firebird, camaro, lots of buicks, etc). In those cars the 2.5 should be just fine.
thanks, i need a new truck and i ahve to drive like that to get to work. so i will probably get one with a 2.8 maybe a 4.3 if the truck is cheap enough.
The 2.8 Liter will obviously give you better gas mileage than the 4.3 and they also run forever. A friend of mine has one that has over 400K miles on it. And good luck, I hope you find a good one!
i have a rare 1979 pontiac sunbird with the 2.5 and it runs ok, but it also has a carb instead of fuel injection. a note to the 2.8, i have never had good luck with them. blown head gaskets. i put two in an 86 s10 blazer 4x4. maybe better with manual trans and 2wd.
dose any one have the stock 1981 Chevy hubcaps

You would probably get about 18-28 mpg depending on if its an automatic or stick.. They're pretty good engines.

@TheClemsonDude
main problem with the 2.8's are they start needing as much oil as an 2-stroke when the milage gets high (burn and leak oil with excessive milage)

would that engine keep up with traffic at about 95 mph for about 35 miles? or would it overheat?
