altama combat boots are great for hiking i walked about a mile and a half home from school on a dirt road for about a year in them and they worked great i didn't have the Mil-spec ones but i do recommend them
I THOUGHT I remembered seeing a vid about hiking boots! Glad I went searching and found this series. As usual, VERY informative and really helps with making not only the right choices, but also (like with ANYTHING you review) helps your set aside money for the boot you'll actually buy. Your are your best asset in the outdoors...they should ALWAYS get the royal treatment...ESPECIALLY when you're in harsh conditions.
Thank you soooo much for this video! I went out and bought $60 boots thinking they would do good in the snow because my other ones wore out. I had to come back down aced day 1 because they ripped but mostly because the material in side kept giving be blisters.
I have a pare of solos for mild conditions and have the -40 snow shoes from North Face that feel great, like a pair of running shows. I have to buy local due to the width of my feet.
You really should treat your boots more often. I'd recommend toko (formerly biwell) or nikwax paste wax. I would recommend Limmer boot grease but those Merrell's are too soft. If you had old Ridgelines or Wildernesses, you could use Limmer boot grease. They are dried out and peeling from the rand. You are wasting money by not keeping them in good condition. Do not use snoseal.
Danner Boots-Very high quality and made in the USA. I've been a carpenter and outdoorsman in western Washington "wet and cold" for most of my life and have worn all kinds of boots. A few years back I got a pair of the explorer hiking boots and was amazed at the quality and fit, hands down the best boots I've ever owned "just my 2 cents". Great vid. Keep up the good work.
Nutnfancy, I just had to send out a huge thank you on this video. I followed what you said in here word for word and ended up with a set of Merrell mid rise moab ventilators. I'm an insurance adjuster and spend a lot of time not only hiking in the woods but in bunt buildings. I spent about an hour going through different boots and trying them on the incline and decline ramps and found these to fit the best. I'm at about a week now with them and wish I would have done this years ago. Thanks!
This video help me research a good pair of boots. I purchased myself a pair of Limmer mid-weights, and all I can say is WOW. It pays to have craftsmanship and experience when it comes to buying a pair of boots.
what i always wanted to know is why my issue combat boots were (the old altima black leather ones) were so horrible in wear, on icy side walks, on muddy ground. I actually put staples at one point on the bottom so i could get to the chow hall without falling. (by the way the staples really did work!)
Finally he has to take a low interest government sponsored loan to pay his expenses. After 5 years he (and most other fishermen) goes bankrupt, loses his home, and drags the whole economy down with them. The government will then blame capitalism. Their solution... more regulations on "greedy" fisherman.
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for life... until the government notices that he is fishing. Then they will tax him 2 fish per day, force him to buy a fishing license, give him a quota of 3 fishes per day. Say he is polluting the river so he has to pay 1 fish per day to clean it up. Then he has to take his fish to a licensed, inspected, unionized fish processing plant to be processed. This costs 1 fish per day.
@XCritonX Nah man I am not saying that. I am only stating that it is over-the-top and unrealistic to advocate super small or non governments.
While there is many policies, laws, etc that are highly debatable and questionable; I think there is too many government-provided services that citizens need and use every day to do away with government. Police, Firefighters, highways, quality standardization imposed on products, National Defense, consumer protection from big businesses, emergency aid,
@diamondd11 As I said I am not an anarchist. Some of the services you mentioned are indeed the responsibility of government. The answer i would like to give will not fit in YouTube answer box. Also, this is not really the place to get into this type of discussion.
@XCritonX etc, are all examples of these types of services. And while some people might think it's a good idea to remove the government's hand from their lives, I disagree. If your house is burning, do you want to fight it with only hoses and your neighbors help? Do you drive on paved roads? What can protect you from hostile nearby nations? Who should help when there is a hurricane?
This is not supposed to be sarcastic or mocking in any way. I simply wonder what your answers are to these issues
@diamondd11 You caught my typo. It was late and I was bleary eyed. Now I feel kinda stupid. :) I am going to delete that post, I don't want anyone thinking I am an anarchist.
Wow.. thankyou for sharing. Impressive. Great job with your classes. amazing. Really, don't ever be discouraged in any way with the work that you are doing here... I'm sure that there are many who are thankful, but are too critical to mention it to you. Albeit, your insights and shared knowledge thru experience may save lives. Perhaps, it is already the case, because even the small stuff adds up and overwhelms in a trying situation. Thanks again.
for my feet haix boots and shoes are best fitting. no problems waling with them the whole day. they are made of quite good quality so i think i will stick to them. but after all - as has been said already - anybody has to find out which shoe fits best to himself.

ArmyRanger10 3 years ago
Sounds like your boots are just slightly too big. Try wearing a pair of thin socks (business type socks) under your heavier hiking socks.
This way all the friction (that cause blisters and such)is taken away from your foot and the boot to just between the two socks.
