  • Wow...1st try too, looks great! REALLY like the different textures you got from faceting on the crank. I still find it difficult to add those grooves while throwing, you make it look so easy! Thanks Steve and please do post turning videos, they really are helpful and (to be honest) something I can sit all the way through a video to watch :)

  • Also...why a sharpened stick? Is it a traditional tool?

  • @credenza1 a sharpened stick is a traditional tool but I use it because a metal tool tends to slice away the clay too much a wooden one drags a little which gives a better texture. Shoji Hamada used a knife to facet pots but he said it had to be a very old rusty one.

  • Have you ever salt fired your work, Steve?

  • @credenza1 Hi I have never done any salt firing. I don't really like the orange peel texture

I do however fancy doing some soda firing.

Lisa Hammond fires a soda kiln and she produces some amazing pots

  • I really enjoy watching turning. It is a sort of sculpture.

  • nice one!

  • Hi Steve I have just found a recipe for 85% feldspar 15% whiting was wondering if you have tried it? I know how you like using feldspar. John

  • @potteryworks Hi John,I have not come across it but it looks like a good idea. give it a go nothing ventured etc. nice to hear from you .best regards
